http://www.restaurant.com/ is a joke, it is not ready for primetime, there was a total of one restaurant on the list in a 5 mile radius of me. I live in San Diego, CA

I guess it depends on where you live. There was only 1 in the 5 mile radius of me (but my town is a joke anyway), but there were 10 pages of restaraunts within 30 miles of my zip code. My metropolitan area has tons of locally owned restaraunts that take advantage of this website.

Also at the end of the month a lot of the certificates are gone, hit it again at the beginning of the month.

I guess it just depends on where you live and when you check. Kind of like airline deals....there one minute, not there the next. Timing, Sir Philip, is everything.

hey scully, about the banana bread. I always use ripe bananas for that or smoothies. I sometimes have issues with my banana bread being a bit dry. I think my oven runs hotter than advertised on the dial. Any suggestions (I am using a recipe from Joy of Cooking).....???? (and yes, this bachelor actually can cook and bake, at least from a recipe)

back to the topic....as for other money saving tips. I have been thinking about buying a new car. My current one just got paid off in June. 5 years old 150,000 miles (bought brand new)..... starting to show its age. Before I started down that path, I took the car to have it detailed today. $150. All day job...they shampooed the carpets and upholstery, degreased the engine and compartment, detailed everything.... that car looks nearly new. Bet it would have added $1000+ to the resale value had I been selling it. Nope, not trading it in or selling it after all... its all clean again.....$300+/month saved...

if you like to eat out and like to try new restaraunts (US only as far as I know), try this web site: http://www.restaurant.com/ Once you sign up (no fee), you can get access to tons of restaurants buy buying discount certificates (usually $25 certificate face value for $10...usually have to buy $35 worth of food..but still, $35 worth of food for $20....good deal)...but in my email today they are offering $25 certificates for $4. THIS IS LEGIT. Pay for it online and print it out on your printer and take it to the restaurant. I have used it before to try an Indian restaurant. great way to try new places/cuisines.

just kiddin' ya Maddie.... You'll find many of us here have a warped sense of humor. (nvr..wanna chime in here, oh King of Warped Humor?)

Hope you tell your story when you feel up to it. Many of us have been traumatized by the Borg (aka Watchtower/Jehovah's Witnesses). Dont mind me, I/We often use humor to diffuse the sadness and anger that has built up in us. Meanwhile, pull up a log to the fire, pop open a cold frosty one , and enjoy the company. This is a great bunch, unlike any JW-related forum you have ever visited....hope your stay is a long one.

I thought my dad was the only one who did that. What great memories you triggered.

You know what? The restaraunt my mom and dad (who at the time was in his 50s) went to every Friday night for their "date night" knew they were coming in every week and without asking they would bring my dad -- not ONE lemon slice, but a PLATE OF LEMON SLICES....every single time (...unless it was a new server....) and then the manager brought the lemons out...this was a midwest casual dining chain. And he would sit their and happily make his lemonade...he did it every week until the day he died. The servers were tipped well. And they got my parents business...every week.

I faced the same thing at McDonald's (where I rarely eat, but once in awhile will if I am in a hurry). I ordered 2 chicken snack wraps (at $1.29 each) but ask for them grilled and with only lettuce (no ranch sauce since I dont like it). However, I ask for BBQ sauce packets for those and my fries (I dont like ketchup either)....one particular restaraunt charged me for the packets....it was only a dime or 14 cents...but it was the principle of the matter..there was no sign stating the extra charge.... I paid at one location, but at a different location I finally had enough and told them I wanted a refund on the $1 chicken sandwich I ordered (plain, no sauce)... they said why? I said it I wont eat it without and same for the fries. they said we will have to throw it away since we already gave it to you. I told them too bad.... guess what...they gave me the BBQ sauce... oddly enough, if i ask for 10 ketchup packets (or sometimes I dont even ask) I will get them.... I could use half the container on the service bar of ketchup and not get charged.....but ask for 1 or 2 BBQ sauce packs and it is the end of the world.

most locations since then have put up signs stating there is an extra charge for those sauce packets now..... but the location I usually go to doesnt charge me anyway.

short sighted business do not get my business.

it is still summer in the northern hemisphere, school has only just gotten started, and the leaves haven't even turned yet.

I worked retail 7 years (8 christmas seasons)...hated every second of it.

Really, labor day?!!! For crying out loud! Yet I seen it with my own 2 eyes today. I hate shopping. I do a lot of my shopping online and stay out of stores as much as possible.

Fading? What's up?

i was a jw, finally saw my chance and wrote a letter to the elders saying how bad i am and how i don't want to meet to discuss it and to df me if you want.

that was the end of it for me.

my question is if you know you are "fading" you are already gone so why not make the leap?

Fading? What's up?

mostly what I was going to say about why I just fade and not outright quit has already been said. Family and a few close friends are keeping a toe in the water....

I make occasional meetings but dont go in the ministry any more. I dont believe a thing the WTBT$ has to say, but will defend to their death their right to say it (twisting a quote from Voltaire). Nice thing about freedom in this country. They have the right to spout BS, we have the right to publicly refute and spotlight their BS.

My closest female friend talked to me on the phone today. She is really sincere in her efforts to "help" me get "back on track." Two decades ago, I was the one trying to help her "get back on track" back when she was about to be (and was) D/F. So she understands both sides of this. Nothing I said then changed her mind though she never forgot it. Now, she is back in "good standing" and (mostly) happily married to a fellow JW.......too bad she is so deeply entrenched in the Borg mindset. I was in that entrenched place not that many years ago, so I understand where she is coming from. She has no clue about the pedophile issue, the flip flops of the WT, etc., despite being raised as a JW (or maybe because she was raised as such). I wish I could share that with her without fear of pushing her away. I will let sleeping dogs lie and be there for her if she finds out on her own.

So I just keep up the fade. Eventually I will probably have to move away from the area and start over to completely walk away. For now, I do what I have to do.

There's good news and bad news....

the good news...i just had my annual review and, as always, i got an "exceptional"!

yay, sweetface!!!!

i am organized, knowledgeable, show extreme initiative, other than my iming addiction adhere to company policy, am terribly dependable, productive, and have excellent communication skills.

sweetface2233...congrats on a good review, sorry about the relocation problem. If you really are in DC (as it shows on your profile), then 256 mile round trip is a hell of a commute.

Moorefield, WV is 128.5 west of DC, mostly on I-66. 2400 people, not a diverse community (read that 91% white). Probably a quaint little town. Looking at the google sat picture, it doesn't appear much is there. Well, except your job.

I don't know how much time you have invested in your current job but use this as a great opportunity to pursue higher education. Remember, you actually have freedom to do that.
