I remember years ago I think about 93 or 94 before wicca became trendy I was working at a place that a union was trying to get into. They had a meeting at one of a co-worker's place who worked on another shift, so I went to her place and there was a goat skull hanging on the wall, some books with pentagrams, and various other odd things; I thought I had walked into the den of satan! I got over my initial fear and stayed for the union meeting. She explained to me about how she was a witch, but she only practiced white magic. She seemed like a nice person.

Your thoughts on Wicca?
by Texman55 insomebody who's become a friend is an ex catholic....pretty knowledgeable on all the mainstream christian doctrines and history etc....now into wicca beliefs....not a actual member, but in tune with the ideas....mediation, incense, being close to the earth yada yada.
not real wound up with it, not pushing it on me.....and theres no way i would ever go there.....just not my style, and think i am over any organized religion at this point.. a good friend, good person.....he cant really explain why he's into all that except it feels good....but i'm a little uncomfortable.....sad to say i think it's a holdover from the jw fear and loathing of anything remotely "demonic"......i'm a good researcher, and in 15-20 minutes on the internet i know i could dig up all the lowdown on wicca beliefs/practices/history etc.....and i know without looking it up that its all just a made-up job like so many other groups we know.....but i hold back because i'm afraid if i knew more i'd feel really uncomfortable with my friend.....i know, i know that's so lame....lol.
just wondering if any of you have any experience with the wicca thing, and what you think about all that.

OK folks, now something Im passionate about
by zagor inive seen several threads about ufo but not one about ifo.
as you might have hear richard branson with help of burt rutan (who would be one of my personal heroes if i ever had one) had just unveiled space plane for paying passenger to take them for a ride of a lifetime into suborbital flight.
i know it is a bit expensive i my self would wait till it go down by about a half before seriously thinking about it and i wouldnt like going alone anyway.

If there is water ice on mars then it is likely that there was once liquid water on mars back when mars had a magnetic field and a much thicker atmosphere.

by Buster Dallas ini'm new to the board, just signed up today.. i grew up going to garland, mesquite and white rock/lake highlands congregations.
stopped associating with the jw's in the early 90's.

Salutations! I'm in the Dallas area, but I moved here to sorta get away from everything, so I never went to the meetings here save for one memorial when I was feeling guilty one year.

Sex with Neandathals
by digderidoo ini was watching an interesting documentary called "sex with neandathals" last night, about the possibility that neandathal man could have been assimilated into the human gene pool by interbreeding.. it showed how modern man came from africa, whereas neandathal man came from europe.
at some points their paths crossed, but rather than modern human driving and forcing neandathal man into non existence they learned to co exist.. this is a developing theory amongst some scientists and anthropologists that seems to be getting a foothold.
it has been shown how similar species of animal have interbred, giving an example of two very different types of baboon.

Only blonde in a red headed family? Odd, I always thought red headedness was a recessive trait.

I remember reading somewhere once that there was a hypothesis that red hair came from Neanderthals. O_O
I think it's very possible that there was some interbreeding. -

who likes Battlestar Gallactica?
by Dogpatch ini am curious how many of you watch this.
i find it far more fascinating than many other shows, but i am biased, always had a flair for traditional horror as well as quality sc-fi.
but the producers intentionally dumb down the special effects (filmed in hd but virtually posterized for effect outdoors) so as to focus on the plot lines and character development.

I watched the first couple of seasons, but didn't keep up with it after that. :(
Maybe I'll get the dvd sets to catch up.
