My youngest daughter would identify with that "not hearing Jesus". she resisted baptism--She never jeard the call either.

as many of you know, whom have been in the org for a while.. the wt is hard coded into your mind.
sometimes, i will read a wt, to make sure that i hadn't imagined all of the ridiculousness... and then i read a wt like this : http://m.wol.jw.org/en/wol/d/r1/lp-e/2004168 (is linking to this legal?).
i especially enjoyed this section : .
The more convoluted the teaching, the less I felt it was important. Jesus seemed to follow the K.I.S.S.principle so I decided all the infinite data of the WT literature seemed optional.
But it just got more layers added.I guess it took me a while to figure out I was in the wrong place.
ps. Xanth and Julia--about "talking to myself on here": I HEAR you. Some times it is like putting a note in a bottle and throwing it out to sea.
But sometimes I feel like I've put old SH!+ in a bottle and thrown it out to sea. Such is the nature of this forum that we end up uncorking each others' bottles--who knows why there is no answer or response. But sending them out has helped me anyway.
Love you, Maeve
yesterday i went surfing, when i had finished and got changed i tried to start my car, no joy.
there were about 12 cars in the car park and the occupants of 8 of the cars all tried to help out at some point as they could see i was having difficulties, one guy even drove to a garage 5 miles away to get me a coffee i didn't even ask for as it was a freezing cold day and a couple of them let me sit in their cars to warm up while i waited for the rac.
contrast this to a time when i was in and my car wouldn't start (different car lol) in a kh car park and all i got was snarky comments, or advice in passing but no one stopped to help out.. i know who i prefer, has anyone else been helped by the evil worldly's while ignored by the loving jw's.
I wasn't raised "in the Truth" so I had already experienced people outside of the KHs who were tremendously kind and giving.
There were numerous acts of kindness to me and my family within my years as a Witness in several congregations. But there was a troubling feature to some of this. We were well liked yet not really involved with any "cliques". there were cliques and if some weren't personally likeable or they were troubled (and isn't that what defines humanity?) they were not noticed so much.It bothered me.
There were individuals who were notable for kindness, but it seemed that this was their nature. When, for instance my car was destroyed, an fine old elder simply, quietly gave me his sound, drivable old Toyota (he was a convert).
Other faith communities or individuals of other faiths I was around did as well or better than the JWs in the area of kindness. that's what I have seen.
In the 90's we went to a very small midwestern congregation where there was only one youngish elder(a convert). He tried hard to implement fairness without favoritism in the way the cong worked(the cong was on the verge of dissolution when we moved there--No elders at all, there'd been a scandal of some sort and many members were under "reproof"). But the system ate away at them too. I heard that his children became notable for behaving like "sons of Eli" and got off scot free.
O, the kindness I received from non-witnesses after my exit--
I got cancer--And the local JWs knew of it. the son of my bible teacher (He not a JW) saw me often. But his mother --of course not. An atheist old friend of mine made it her business to drive me daily to my radiation and checked in on me always--and many many others--many, many others. I never lacked for love. It was wonderful.

i sometimes join discussion groups.
the witnesses do get mentioned.
i try to make it humorous but some bitterness seeps through.
BOTR,
She is a bold one! Rare to find a witness that takes time away from the treadmill to discuss with "worldlings".
What are you discussing, if that's okay to ask?
the following is taken from ray franz's book, crisis of conscience, pages 341-344. this letter, sent out to all traveling representatives, circuit overseers, by the service department of the international headquarters, shows the society's demand for comformity no matter the cost to the rank and file.
jw lurkers: please read carefully.
the portion of the letter in blue is of particular interest, and franz's comments nails the governing body's intent.. ______________________________________________________________________________________________________________________
This is right on the money.
I took a conscience matter to the local brothers concerning a subject that showed up in all JW literature that did not reflect the verses in the bible.
My concern had no direct effect on JW doctrine.
Bethel looked into my material and could not find cause to refute my objection on the basis of scholarship. But..
they nevertheless demanded that I readjust my attitude to accept their interpretation.
MADNESS! And I was forbidden to discuss my problem of conscience with anyone or be accused of starting a sect!
I told them in view of what had happened to me I would never start a new RELIGION!
And left soon after.
it seems like at least once a month he is brought up as a good example in the study wt.
it seems like he is given more praise than jesus.

Band--I think there is a core of truth to them, mostly.
There is a mention of the "house of David" in a stele found in 1994 from the time period matching the David stories. That David may have been a scruffy type, a vagabond usurper or whatnot might be true.
In my experience, truth is so much stranger than pure fiction, I don't discount off-hand a mad story simply because it seems implausible to ME.
imagine a world where being "gay" the norm & being "straight" would be the minority!

Dis-Member--You have heard lesbians say they hate men?
I heard a heterosexual woman say that her experience of misogynistic men made her wish she were gay--but she wasn't and isn't-- and she was stuck with it.
Has it occurred to you that those lesbians had had bad experiences too?
I think it is wrong to hate a general population of any kind. It is wrong to think that all men are bad to women. That said, women have been the more misused historically and globally. Is that not true?
What does the Bible say?

The gay people I know are not pushing an "agenda".* They are ordinary people who work, they are good citizens, good friends.
One lesbian couple I know have been together 30 years and they finally were able to marry. Now there is the legal right to be caring for end of life matters. One had children before they met, and now there are grandchildren. They are a fine family.
These people are not sinister. They are good to children, kind to animals. It would creep them out to hear you say that wanting to be married shows that they are furthering the legalization of child molesting and bestiality.
*Edit: Well yes--an agenda. But not "agenda" with a curled lip that some conservatives suggest. An agenda is simply a series of issues to be addressed. I this BAD in itself? Are wanting civil rights an agenda? Well, yes.
tell us a little about yourself and your family.. i got married to another cult member and we have 3 children who are all grown up now.
the 2 boys are not interested in the jw cult (thank goodness).
when i left the disgusting cult my wife left me.. were you a born in or a convert?.
Paul,
Thanks for your story.
your posts several months back helped me shakedown my thinking. I hope in the coming years you won't feel the loss of time in the Org so fiercely.
I try not to think of it too much.
It is amazing to me the clear steps that you took in reasoning out some things. Then acting on it. "pulling the trigger" on it, so to speak. good example for your sons.
All the best.

Thoughtless--
I tend to agree with you--Dynamic, interesting people can get into a lot of trouble. He committed crimes that would have had him killed except for executive privelege.
Just that his exploits made it to print doesn't make him a hero. The truest thing about him is that his poor management of his personal affairs brought him troubles galour. But he could be generous as well.
