I agree with Integ and Seeker4--This organization is not going away. In fact, it could be argued that it is actually getting bigger and stronger, if you gauge things on a global scale. Sure, growth in Japan and the West has probably bottomed out, but the org is flourishing in the former eastern bloc countries, most parts of Africa, and some regions of Central and South America.

The reason for the change, my opinion.
by joebin ini think the decision was made because elders were starting to really feel the pinch and maybe many were considering giving their resignation due to the heavy workload involved.
with the new arrangement, not only do they have one less meeting to get ready for a week but also less preparation for the remaining ones.
i don't think the org can afford to lose too many elders.

Interesting thought. While i agree that may be a mitigating factor in the decision, I don't think it was the main reason for the change. With the the mass layoffs at Bethel, the society has a bevy of trained, "company men' elders, along with their wives, that are now being dispatched all over the US territory. Also, there are lots of trained "brothers" via MTS and at the local levels that are already in the 'pipeline' and ready for appointment--this too will offset any attrition. No, I really think it was mainly an economic decision. Remember, always follow the money. If you look at when other arrangements have been done away with or "simplified", it usually can be traced to eliminating cost.

Fading is generally the best way out, but keep in mind the org is a private organization and has the right to invite/expel members at will. If the brothers want to df you for eating a ham sandwich, they can....

I really think this reflects moving to the Left by the GB. I'm convinced more than ever that there is a power struggle going on right now in NY for control of this organization. Due mainly to new appointments, it appears that Jaracz and the other hardliners have gotten to a point that they no longer have a governing majority on the GB. I think things could get interesting over the next couple of years....

How dare you make fun of homeschooling! As piss poor as our public educational system is in this country being controlled by the teachers unions, I don't blame parents one bit for opting out of the public system and for home schooling their kids. BTW, there is nothing in the constitution of the US that makes provision for publicly financed education.

basically, the reasoning is supposedly that since jehovah gave us our reproductive organs, tampering with them is wrong if not medically necessary.

most of the documentation relating to the seventy years indicates that period to be 609 bce to 539 bce, the rule of the babylonian empire.
i wrote to headquarters, because as a bible study student i knew i could ask questions about certain doctrines that those baptized cannot without consequence and some of the information i received from them was very helpful especially when it was used to verify the chronology of the kings of judah and israel through the bible.. the bible says there are actually (2) 70-year periods.. the first being one of servitude to the babylonians of both israel & judah from 609 bce to 539 bce.
