WT LIES in the bible teach book

we all know the watchtower soicety can be deceitful at times.

one place i've noticed their deceit is in their main 'bible' study/cult introduction book 'what does the bible really teach?

designed for a jw holding a bible study with an interested person, this books tries to convince the person being studied with, that this religion knows the truth about the bible.

This book was given to us recently to study. We are Christians and yes, the book could definitely be said to be a bait and switch tool. We actually agreed with a number of chapters because they were so broad based. Can anyone tell me where the Knowledge book fits in with this? Is the teach book a dumbed down version?

Last night I had a very moving dream. I had placed an ad in the newspaper, inviting any ex-JWs who would like some support and friendship to come to my house. When I entered the living room it had grown larger and was packed with people. They told me they thought they were alone in their situation.

One group was mingling, one was sad and depressed just sitting, another group became violent and started breaking things, another group told me they were still in the org and trying to get others out.

I asked if anyone wanted to meet regularly for Bible study and friendship. Some said yes, others said they had abandoned God.

When I awoke, I was emotionally moved, and Jesus's story about the king inviting the lame and helpless to his banquet was in my mind. I must say that your stories have affected me deeply. I am overwhelmed that a group that claims to represent Jehovah and follow the Bible could treat others so. Please feel my love and concern for you! I must be spending too much time on this board.

Hi Fly: I think that is what they call "cognative dissonance"--the internal struggle when things just don't make sense. I am PMing you with some information.

Just attended my first 'Church event' in over 40 years! Maybe two!

in spite of the fact that i consider myself christian now, post exit of the watchtower religion, i have not attended a single religious event or sermon inside a church since i was 5 years old [1960].

today, we attended the christmas play for my 5 year old g-daughter at the church where she attends pre-school.

i was absolutely ecstatic with the program.

Okay, you guys are giving me the warm fuzzies!

I had the chance to talk to a JW today and he brought up the subject of Christmas and said how ridiculous the world was in their celebration, singing about a baby, when He is really the King of Kings. Good point, but, a little misinformed. We also sing about Him as King of Kings too in most of our Christmas songs, and I told him that I loved to praise Jehovah for the miraculous conception of a virgin birth and for giving me a Saviour for my sins. But I felt sad for his misunderstanding of why we celebrate!

Jeff, enjoyyour journey, but please remember that churches are made up of people like me--fallen humans, who might sometimes disappoint or act like what they are (sinners :)--but don't let that get you down. There's lots of us who are deeply commited to the Lord and love our brothers and sisters. I personally love to hear of those like yourself who have been marvellously brought out of the darkness into the light! It refreshes my own faith to see God active and working in your life. And my worship is renewed by remembering what freedom I truly have and not taking that for granted (in other words: Thank you Lord for keeping me from the Watchtower cult!)

The kids and I went and handed out their food hampers and warm mits, hats and scarves. They were overwhelmed with the help from our church (16 of us showed up--not all my children!)

They are also serving Christmas dinner and could use help there. It is a wonderful feeling to get involved in the community in a practical way and reach out!

I'm not earning my way to heaven or to survive Armeggedon. I do good works cuz I was created to do them and I want to do them.

    Hi Wanderer:

    Interesting question.

My mother was raised in a cult but was kicked out when she married my Dad, and yet almost 50 years later, there are still things that bother her. I know that she struggled with stuff as I was growing up and it led to anger, depression, and suicidal thoughts at times. On one rational level, she knows they were wrong, but inside the feelings are in conflict.

I think Blondie is right about examining beliefs to see where they come from and then either owning them or not. As a Christian, I believe that the holy spirit will renew our hearts and minds if we ask, but we also must examine beliefs to make sure they are biblically correct. I think too that it helps to have someone who can help remind you about this if you start to slip into old thinking patterns.

But if you have become an athiest or agnostic, you'd probably want to check out a deprogramming group or book or counselor or something. I don't think we can underestimate the powerful effect of brain-washing, especially when it starts so young. The posts on this board testify to that fact.

I'd like to share a fabulous Christmas tradition from our family that you might enjoy incorporating into your festivies: Every year since they were born, we have given each child a new ornament. The night that we set up our tree (articifical), we make hot chocolate for everyone and put on Christmas music (Cds of carols and such--our favourite one is Mickey Mouse Christmas--so cute). Then they each get a wrapped ornament. They look forward to this so much! Even the 18 year old! Then they decorate the tree with their favourites from years gone by. It is like seeing old friends again for them as they take them out of their boxes (each one has their own box)--"Oh look here is Walter" (my youngest names his snowmen) or "Remember when you gave this one?" Then, when they leave home, they take their box of ornaments with them. Our daughter was just married so she has her box with her to decorate their first tree.

I know that many of you have not done this over the years, but it is never too late to start. You can easily catch up if you do several ornaments a year. They aren't expensive--the dollar store has some cute ones. Don't forget to initial and date the bottom so they don't get mixed up. (speaking from experience on that one). I found that shoe boxes or empty cookie tins work well for storeage.

Wishing you all a blessed Christmas, and hoping that some of you will take time to reflect on the birth of our Saviour,

    TS
