When you were in the religion, how important was it to you that you fit in with the crowd?
I've had an issue with a freind, and this is apparently the cause of the problem.
I also have a good idea of psychology. I fully understand the how and why of what went wrong. But I still can't concieve of a person sacrificing a freindship just to fit in, to appear the "Good" JW...
Sorry I can't really elaborate on what's going on. It still bothers me and only my close freinds know about it.

When will the JW's annual publisher growth rate finally hit zero?
by yaddayadda inabout 10 years ago i did a simple projection for when the organisation's annual publisher growth rate would hit zero.
the date i arrived at was 2009. my rough projection was based on the preceding 20 worldwide annual reports.
obviously my projection was wrong.

It will touch negatives in 2013, then rebound the year of 2014.
Then it will plummet and never recover. -

which celebrity death....?
by nowisee injust heard about the death of joel siegel, the entertainment critic for abc, and found myself, surprisingly, in tears.
maybe it was because he had such a young son and made plans to let him know how much he was loved, long before he died.
maybe because i have watched him for so many years.

I've never cried over a celebrity...I don't actually know these people. And I'm not the type to follow thier going-ons.
But SNL reminded me of Chris Farley. I wish he was still around... -

Hi there, welcome!
Now you have to write out my name, saying Hi back. Not many people acknowledge every person who welcomes them, and I'm taking advantage of it! -

THE WEEK IN REVIEW.............DID ANYONE SAY "VIETNAM"?
by Warlock inthe observations on my week in review are solely based on my own warped view of the world, and my own warped sense of humor.
if i have missed anyone's thread or post, believe me......it's deliberate!.
actually, this week i was bouncing between jwd and another forum.

I've set my mind to it that I'm going to move to Australia.
I've made a whole ton of freinds over the internet that all live in australia, and they're supportive of me moving there.
And before you think "You stupid 17 year old fool!", I've been putting some serious thought into this. It'd be a nice chance to start over. I don't have any social skills, so a large base of freinds would make acclimating to society easier. And America's foreign policy is extremely annoying. We've only been making enemies, and it seems theres more and more soon to be nuclear capable nations that hate us. -

I must agree with UnConfused's first choice:
The Godfather.
Think about it...if I still believed the JWs, I would not see what is now my favorite movie ever :P .
I didn't get to see the second one, but I have seen the Part1/Part2 edited together one, and I just have to say I'd much rather see it as a whole. I think it ruined the movie for me knowing that theres a bigger better version of part 2 :P . -

Strange visit
by bagpuss inafter 4 years away from meetings and no contact with the cong i attended, yesterday i answered the door to find an elder at the door.
he was po in my cong but has been removed i had heard.
he said he was calling about the disaster fund and that the society wanted to update everyones details like phone numbers and contacts.

I'm guessing he accidently said "fund" (habit perhaps?)
My family had to fill out forms and such with our information, nothing about money was involved.
And to answer ex-nj-jw's point, they had a required person that you would contact that lives in a different state. In the event you're able to contact someone, you contact that person, and they update elders as to your status.
But how the elders would get in contact with them is just as puzzling...Not a very well thought out plan now that I think about it.
