That was an excellent video showing all the money grabbing at the convention.
The other info & videos you put up on the German website are very good too.

Pentecostal evangelism in Africa
by AllAlongTheWatchtower inin most modern western civilizations, i tend to believe in the "live and let live" way of thinking; though i am atheist, i understand that some people have a need for religion in their lives.
as long as that religion is not dangerous in any way (like jws and wcg are, among many others), then fine, do as you will.
reading articles like this really gets me steamed up though:.

Suppose the WTBTS has realized the potential of lots of $$$ from Africa in addition to building up their publisher numbers?
This is very surprising to me as I was under the impression the Africans are all so poor that the WTS was building a bunch of new KHs there for free (no loans to repay). -

I've been studying with JW's for a few months..
by MichaelM ini've been studying with the jw's for a few months and i've attended a few meetings but things are feeling somewhat strange...i don't quite get the jist of things but i feel that i'm learning more of what the watchtower teachers and less of what the bible actually says.. i never open my bible.. i'm always reading the watchtower pamphlets.
i really like the people i've met in the congregation and the guy thats been doing the studies with me has been an awesome friend.. .
but i'm just having some issues.. i mean.. they translated their own bible to suit their own doctrines it seems.

For some additional info concerning the JWs translation of John 1:1 do a Google search of Johannes Greber.
www.premier1.net/~raines/wtgreber.html - is one that comes up on the search. In it author Ken Raines says,
"Johannes Greber was a Catholic priest turned spiritist who translated the New Testament "with the help of God's spirits." His experiences with spirits and their communications with him are related in his book, Communication With the Spirit World published in 1932. (See previous article)
Greber's translation reads similarly to the New World Translation at Jn. 1:1 and Matt. 27:52,53. The Society quoted and referred to it in support of their controversial renderings of these verses in material they published from 1961 to 1976."
There are lots of other interesting websites on Greber and his association with the Watchtower Society. -

Shunned at Walmart
by Grammy inthe greeter was a woman i once called friend and who (unfortunately now) was baptized after studying with me for a year.
when i walked in i was the only one coming through the door so it's not like she didn't see me, she turned away and ignored me...not wanting to lower myself to her level i simply got a shopping cart and went about my shopping, my first instinct was to report her to management for dereliction of duty but i thought better of that because my doing so would show her it upset me.
i really owe her a debt of gratitude because it was at her baptismal talk that my first strong doubt that it was the truth finally penetrated my foggy brain, as i sat and repeated the baptismal questions to myself at the assembly when she was being baptized i realized they were not the same ones i answered in 1974, that started me on my journey out of the org.

Make sure she's there when you have a return. She can't ignore you then. She has to put that little sticker on your stuff.
Maybe you could write her a little note of apology for introducing her to the cult and give it to her as you enter the store. -

Expect her to be very nervous. It took me more than 25 years after fading to get up the nerve to enter a church for a religious service. Maybe you can visit a few different churches with her.
I have now visited 3 different churches (1 time each) since this spring. The first 2 passed the collection plate which I found to be very offensive (my JW roots still showing). The third did not pass the collection plate but had contribution boxes at the entrance. There was no mention of the boxes but a very brief mention of expenses. I noticed on the printed program they itemized their finances (income & expenses) to date for the month and year.
I found myself thinking of Jim Jones and the Waco guy while the casually dressed pastor gave his sermon. (Excellent father's day sermon by the way on headship.) They passed communion wine & cracker in tiny plastic containers. My daughter & I just passed it on (JW roots again) & I found myself again thinking "Kool Aid".
Probably is a good idea to sit near the back in case she is overwhelmed. I found it very embarrassing when the 2nd church asked for anyone there for the first time to stand. Everybody looked at us (I'm rather shy & don't like to be the center of attention). If she's not comfortable with something like that let her stay seated. -

Tancredi, said "This is the only one that spends time with you, works with you, explains the truth."
Poor guy doesn't realize that now he's been baptized all that attention will disappear.
Unless this elderly gentleman is rich and has lots of $$$ to leave the WTS, his days of them spending time with him, working with him is over. At least he has a full life of Baptist, Methodist & Holiness friends to fall back on if needed.
Edit: I just realized 150 congregations divided by 61 is less than 1/2 of one person per congregation. That really is a tremendous increase. :) -

I hear the DC is in Glendale AZ this weekend. Guess I should get all dressed up and go see what is going on - NOT!
It's sooo hot (110) for the next several days I'll probably hibernate in the AC.
It would be fun to go make some donations in the contribution boxes though. :) -

So..You donate your money, and then you have to pay intrest on it??!!
by Lady Liberty ingood morning everyone "happy thursday!!",.
just reading another thread, and it made me think of a question i could never answer as a jw.
how is it that when your hall wants to build, you recieve the "loan" from the society, but then you have to pay the loan back with intrest??!!.

Does anyone know if this is how it works in Africa also?
I said something to my mother about the loans for building halls and paying back interest. She claims all the KHs being built in Africa are paid for by the WTS and there are no loans that the poor African people have to pay back because they don't have any money. She seemed to think one of the WT or Aw said so within the last few months. -

Thoughts while mowing the yard
by Undecided ini was mowing the yard this morning and as usual i was thinking about life and such.
there were weeds with pretty little flowers and some cherry trees trying to grow.
i just mowed them down because i like the way grass looks better.

magoo - we do have to rake the rocks occasionally to smooth out footprints. It's just not the same as cutting grass though. :)

My mother's response when I told her about the 27,000 files on pedofiles was it was all a test to see who would stay faithful!
The last time I was there I left a print out of the AP article on their dining room table along with two articles about WTS selling properties in Brooklyn. She never said anything about finding them.
Earlier today I emailed the info on the Channel C website that Jim Whitney wrote to one active JW. I had sent her the AP article a few weeks ago and her response was just, Thanks that's interesting. She forwards lots of emails to everyone on her list so I was hoping she would "accidentally" forward these to all her JW friends.
I also sent a bcc of the Channel C email to others that are either out or on the fence.
