i spent 20 long years in the society.
the one thing they pounded into your head esp at convention time is honesty.
jehovah's people are the most honest in all the earth.

it's been a while since i posted here- i frequently lurk, but have been busy with work, life, and not letting the fact that i was a jw for so long linger over my life and become overcome with "what if's?
yesterday we got a phone call from my mother in law who is a jw.
she was distraught because she still has my husband (her son) who is no longer a jw as her medical and legal poa.
Thanks for the clarification Blondie. I did not realize the book study overseers were so involved in the process.

*** km 12/04 p. 7 New Provision to Assist Us to Abstain From Blood ***The DPA card should be prayerfully considered and carefully filled out at home. However, before signing the card, it is important that the legal formalities be closely followed. For example, if your card says that two witnesses are required to see you sign, they should be present when you sign it. Book study overseers may periodically check with those who have not filled out new cards to see if assistance is needed.Note that this is done at a book study with only one elder present and that only two "witnesses" are required, not 2 elders to witness your signature.
I'm reading this a little differently than Blondie. It says the DPA card is to be carefully filled out at home but must be signed in the presence of the witnesses (little 'w'). It does not say it must be signed in the presence of a Jehovah's Witness.
Also it says the Book study overseers may check with individuals who have not filled out new cards. I don't see that it says it is to be done at a book study. It definitely does not need to be signed by an elder.
I have been out a very long time and all this started with the blood cards after I left. I ran across a copy of my mother's form when cleaning out my firebox the other day. She had the option of allowing the blood fractions but checked the box for no blood of any kind. I am sure my father's is the same. If they were younger I would try to get them to change it but at 80 & 93 I don't think it is worth the battle.
The elders of my uncle's KH took a Will they had prepared to the hospital where he was in because of Alzheimers and had him sign it leaving everything to the WTS. His entire family allowed the illegal Will to stand and the WTS got everything.
i was 16 and not a clue in the world what i was getting into..... how about you?
how old were you?.
12 - and not a clue what possessed me to do so

Did you notice is ships from Patterson, New York?
can we get a few of you guys to show up at your local dc or cc and just like hang out in front while wearing a really cheap suit?
bonus points for creating a delagate tag .
extra points for booking a room at one of the listed hotels and registering as a witness.
The first 2 items would really be funny.
I must disagree with the last - trashing a hotel room is not nice nor is it necessary. That said, the adult movies and several empty liquor bottles left in the garbage cans sounds reasonable. (Start saving them up to take with you.)
right near my apartment there is a kingdom hall that sits next to the interstate.
i passed by there tonight at 5 pm and it was totally packed.
i mean there were cars lined all up and down the driveway.
A wedding - or perhaps a funeral?
like i said on a previous thread, this is my first cat.
this cat always follows me around and demands to be petted all of the time.
he wants to be carried all of the time.
When you go to buy a water sprayer you may want to try the kiddie water pistols. I found them in the toy dept at WalMart - 6 to a package for a couple bucks.
They shoot water farther than a spray bottle - and you get 6. I filled each with water and put one in each room. We had to use them a few time when he would start to scratch on the furniture. Also, at first he had decided it would be fun to jump onto the kitchen cabinet, then to the top of the refrigerator then to the top of the cabinets. There he would settle down for a nap. I caught him up there twice after I got the water pistols. They shoot far enough to reach him and after getting 'shot' twice he hasn't been back up there.
Love my cat!!

My current cat is the best behaved I have ever had. In the evening he does get "wired" up and goes tearing back and forth through the house. We will play 'chase' with him and wear him out. He was a stray we got from the Humane Society and is about 2 years old now. He sleeps most of the day on his perch at the window where he can see the birds and rabbits. When he is laying on the floor and you walk by he will often just reach out and touch you. I've not had a problem with drool but that tongue sure does hurt when he wants to lick your face.
He usually sleeps at the foot of my bed but I'm not used to sleeping with anyone and he usually ends up on the floor after I accidentally kick him a few times during the night.
You might want to clip his front claws with a nail clipper. Just be careful not to clip too much - just the sharp ends. He has a tall perch with a rope scratching post which seems to satisfy his need to scratch.
Thanks to Elsewhere telling us about potty training his cat, I bought the Litter Kwitter training set from PetSmart and started training my cat to use the toilet.
He has progressed to the green ring stage and is very successful at doing #1 in the toilet. He's having a little more trouble with #2. He now at least goes to the bathroom and starts scratching around on the floor and meows. I can tell when it's time, I go in with him and close the door. I have to put him up on the toilet a few times (he wants to jump down and scratch on the floor) but he will go in the toilet after a few times of setting him back up on it.
No more litter box !!! Thanks Elsewhere.
did anyone see todays show?
sherri talks about being raised a jw and how she left after her father was df'd and she could no longer speak to him.
it was really surprising to me.....am i the last to know she was raised a jw?.
I didn't send her an email last time. I will this time - thanks for the link.
