you moral zealots are usually the ones guilty of spouse beating
Nope. He's never been guilty of that. If he was, he wouldn't still have a spouse. Pppppbbbbtttt!!!!
is a certain "uptightness" creeping into our community?.
should we be scolding one another?.
especially kids?

while i was visiting my friend last evening.
on her table was an invitation to the follow christ convention for jehovah's witnesses.
now i know that evelyn's sister is a jw from chicago, so i figured that is who the invitation was from.
Where I'm from (lafayette, IN), there were NEVER conventions closer than 100 miles away. In fact, around 1994 was the last DC they actually had in the state of Indiana (at Notre Dame). After that, we Hoosiers all had to haul our asses to Chicago, Springfield, Louisville, or Dayton. All of which are a minimum of 3 hours drive. That was one reason I hated going to conventions. We'd usually would have to drive up the night before to stay in some bug-infested filthy hotel. The alternative was to get up the day of the convention at about 3 a.m., pack our bags, put on our dresses and suits, and drive for 3-4 hours to get there by 8:30, only to find that every blasted seat in the place was being "saved". Ahh, good times; good times.
as i have stated in previous posts, i absolutely hated field service.
hated it.
i dreaded it with a passion and couldn't wait to be done.
I find it interesting, though not surprizing, that so many of us hated field service. It just makes me think back to when I was active in "da troof". I never voiced my disdain for service, and I always felt guilty feeling that way because I thought something must be wrong with my attitude. But looking back, I bet 99% of those that I went out in service with hated it as much as I did. And they probably felt guilty for hating it. It just shows you how much mind control the borg has over its collective.
My favority wine is Port. There's an excellent Port wine from Australia called Grandfather's. It's so awesome.

As I have stated in previous posts, I absolutely HATED field service. HATED it. I dreaded it with a passion and couldn't wait to be done. In our cong., we were a play by the rules kind of people. We never wasted time driving around, we rarely took breaks (only if it was extremely hot or cold), etc. We would take every blasted door in the territory from 9:20 till noon or so. I hated it!!! I hated bugging people in their homes on their only days off of work. I honestly didn't care to "convert" people. I only went out to avoid being pelted by a 50 ton flaming rock at Armageddon (as seen in the lovely pictures in the Live Forever book).
Did anyone here actually like it?
Also, a side question: did anyone actually like reading the Watchtower and/or Awake?
how often have you heard the phrase "if we don't preach, the stones would cry out"?
this is in regard to the ministry.. what i cannot figure out is (1) this is so urgent that we have to be out 18+ hours a day doing it, (2) we have to endure all sorts of conditions to accomplish our ministry, and (3) we are supposed to get it perfect so people can be drawn in.
so, why don't the stones get to help us out?
I wonder what a stone's voice would sound like? Would it be gravelly?
How would they knock on people's doors? Or would they just yell at people when they walk by?
I wonder what they would say, exactly. "Ahem. Excuse me, ma'am. Uh, down here. Yeah, the rock on the ground. Since I don't have any craftily worded magazines to bore you with, I'll just get to the point: Become a Jehovah's Witness or die!!! That's all. Carry on now. Have a good day!"
Wouldn't the borg's ministry be so much simpler if they could just say something like that? I mean, if the rocks simply get to "cry out" the message, why should JWs have to play these mind games like "We're just talking with our neighbors to encourage them to read their Bibles"? I tell you, rocks have it so easy!
i've met some wonderful friends here at this forum, but it's time for me to put the jw religion to rest.
it will be 15 years this october that i daed myself which in retrospect i wish i wouldn't have done as there are some former sisters who i would love to give a big hug and talk with who are in pain mentally, but i can't.
i agreed to their "rules" when i was baptized.
Juni. Wow, we'll miss you here. Your posts have always been so reassuring and nice to read. Please check back in on occasion just to say hi.
i was raised as a witness and have been miserable for my entire existence.
i have hated every moment of it.
after about 10 years of struggling, i decided 2 years ago that i was done w/ the charade and wasn't going to return to the meetings.
Welcome to the forum, sweetface. I'm sorry to hear about your sister's reaction. Hang in there. Keep communication open on your end, even if she doesn't speak to you for awhile. Hopefully, she'll see by your actions that just because you left the organization, you haven't become an evil person and that you still love her. Maybe she'll come around.
lsu, california state,, eastern and western illinois among others offer fantastic classes.
harvard even offers a doctorate degree on line, although you will have to attend for a short time on campus.
several members of my family are finishing up degrees or advancing them through clep tests or on line classes through these sites, with testing done at local colleges or homework sent through the mail at minimal cost compared even to your local jr. college.
Restrangled - Thanks for the info. As I mentioned previously, I'm pursuing my RN degree online. I'm getting it through Excelsior college. I recommend it to anyone. However, for anyone thinking about doing online education, don't do what I did and get sucked into a plan like The College Network or Chancellor's - they are only publishing companies that make study guides for taking CLEP or Excelsior exams. You get your degree from whatever college you enroll in, but you pay through the nose to The College Network for the study guides. Long story short - you don't need the "middle man." If you go through Excelsior, just order your books and study guides through them. You'll save A LOT of money. The College Network's study guides are good. I've gotten 4 A's and 1 B from them. But they are WAY too expensive, and they have ways of locking you into buying ALL of the books you'll need at once. You can't just order one at a time.

I am currently pursuing my RN degree on line. (I am an LPN; that's why I can do most of the RN program online). More and more schools are offering online degrees. It's just the natural progression of technology. Since I work full time and have a family, it's the only way I could do it. I would recommend it to anyone who thinks they don't have time to go back to school.
