Why am I writing this?
Because that's what you do.
Happy Birthday.
i was born january 15, 1947in mt.
carmel hospital, detroit, michigan.. within six months of my birth, my mother would bundle her baby boy into a blanket and board an american airlines propeller-driven plane--in effect, leaving my father behind--to return to her hometown, ft. worth, texas.. my dad had an excellent job working for cadillac as an inspector.
it was a union job.

what are everyone's thoughts on this, how his legs weren't broken, he was pierced with a spear and he wore a thorny crown?.
i'm pimo and very much not wanting to believe, but like the daniel statue prophecies, these ones about jesus stick in my mind and give me "hmmm, maybe" moments..
I sincerely believe that, like fictional movies and television that do not have to put up disclaimers because everyone knows its fiction, everyone pretty much knew back in the days that their religious story tellers were telling fictions without saying so.
i’ve been here for many years.
the tone seems to be different in this place.
not so many pissed off exjws .
I have been here a long time with Minimus since he was the 7 Up Dot. He certainly would be talking of people like me. I was the angry ex-JW and have let much of it go.
As time goes by, you realize that clinging to all your anger issues allows them to continue to "rent space in your head." Sure, my wife is still a JW, but carrying a chip on my shoulder constantly only serves to wreck my shoulder and does nothing to free my wife from the cult.
We get that we cannot let go of every issue, and we don't belittle those whose closest loved ones shun them. But when we want some serenity, we have to let some things go.

IT's JUST A STORY!
Hosea 11:1- "When Israel was a child, I loved him, and out of Egypt I called my son."
So when I write my gospel, I will make sure to include that somehow.
Matthew 2:15- "where he stayed until the death of Herod. This fulfilled what the Lord had spoken through the prophet: 'Out of Egypt I called my Son.'"
So another story goes-
Exodus 12:46- In one house it shall be eaten; you shall not carry any of the flesh outside the house, nor shall you break one of its bones.
Numbers 9:12- They shall leave none of it until morning, nor break one of its bones. According to all the ordinances of the Passover they shall keep it.
Psalm 34:20- He guards all his bones; Not one of them is broken.
The Israelites probably had no idea why they could not break the bones of the lamb. But they avoided doing it because God said not to do it.
So when I write my gospel, I will make sure to include THAT somehow.
John 19:36- For these things were done, that the scripture should be fulfilled, A bone of him shall not be broken.
If the OT said something that made people believe that the messiah definitely would have some feature or backstory, then a writer in later centuries would certainly want to mention those features or backstory, whether or not the events happened or if the backstory is totally fictional.
what single big change do you think could back fire and bring the cult down ?.
me: tithing..
I don't see a death blow to bring down WT, but a chipping away at it.
So it would have to be big- a sex scandal involving the Governing Body, A Rutherford-like coop but the new leader takes the money and runs,
so i shared a facebook video from newsbroke with my wife.
you many agree or disagree with the points made in the video.
please, don't make this about that.
OneGenTwoGroups, thanks. Others, remember we are not here to argue over the video. Feel free to disagree, but we are talking about an interaction between a fader and his JW wife.
Stillin, I love George's comments on politics.
Old Navy, very difficult to unravel indeed. Keep hope alive.
Diogenesister, It truly is.

Ruby456 said "...my own feeling is that they would be miserable without their hopes."
That may be so. Still, my own feeling is that everyone deserves to know the truth about the lies in Watchtower and start from there. Some will never be able to handle it, but for many it is just assumed and we need to find out. Just the same, I get what you are saying.
scratchme1010, thanks.
TD, I like being reminded of two steps forward, one step back. I think there was a step forward there.
LV101, here's hoping they will start hearing reality.
Old Navy, my wife is an elementary teacher. She seems comfortable thinking above the third grade level. Smart, but not deep. I actually asked her about learning some basics in politics in order to understand what people are talking about. This is about what was said on that: "Obama was a democratic liberal. Trump is not all that conservative, but ran as a Republican. They are typically conservative. People will argue what each one of those means, but you can decide for yourself. Generally, liberals believe in individual rights and social programs for helping people while conservatives believe that people need to help themselves without so many social programs. Conservatives may accuse liberals of just offering handouts to people and liberals may accuse conservatives of being prejudiced and very Bible-oriented."
She asked if she herself was considered liberal or conservative. I told her that the vast majority of black people are considered liberal, but that Jehovah's Witnesses would be considered conservative based on clinging to Bible values about modern things.
I think this gives you an idea how she is not really thinking for herself, just riding along on this planet knowing that the end is near.
Wild Thing, I try, I try.
Jrjw, she totally shuts down on doctrine. It's a no-go with her. I generally use the methods prescribed by Steve Hassan in his books, to make her think without triggering any cult stuff. Just once in awhile, I connect the dots back to the cult after she thinks about a thing. I maybe should not do that so much.
607 BCE to a JW with a closed mind is like discussing string theory with a poet. They don't care and it doesn't change anything they understand.
some of my old jw friends are sickly and getting on in age.
so far, i’ve only gone to my mother’s memorial and have avoided the kingdom hall altogether.... your thoughts please?.
Funerals are for comforting the living. If I feel that I am comforting an important loved one, I will go to a Kingdom Hall arrangement.
My JW wife was rather insistent that I get off work and travel halfway across the country and be by her side for her father's JW memorial arrangement. Of course I did it. And it had the potential to be disastrous for me, being that it was held where all the older men knew me and many were instrumental in my becoming a JW elder before I moved away. But I managed to keep the men at a distance.
If my step-father attends a memorial for my JW mother, I will be there for him and any others that I care for.
If she is the last to go, I will probably arrange a standard funeral home thing, but not exclude the JW's that were a huge part of her life. But I wouldn't let them do the eulogy, I would arrange for a neutral person to actually talk about her and not the hope for everlasting life.
If my JW wife dies ahead of me, I am certain to do similarly as above- funeral home, neutral talk about her.
I have pretty much decided to skip Kingdom Hall memorials for people in the cult that I knew. I am more of a distraction than a comfort. But if someone requests my presence, I will consider it.

Ruby456, Mrs. OTWO is not happy. She is not living a fulfilling life by remaining a JW. Luckily, she is allowing her true self to shine through here and there. Her problem is that she is just stuck with believing their lies that she WILL BE HAPPIER IN THE FUTURE if she never gives up the misery that is the life of a JW.

The point I am making is that my wife is not your typical JW despite her resolve to stay a JW. The point I was making is that my wife got her Master's Degree while married to me and attending Kingdom Hall. The point is that the person in the video is accusing the administration (and conservative society) of trying to condemn higher education.
Here's the youtube of the same video:

My wife's comment was "Well, these are people who don't want others to ever become managers. They want them to forever be the low paid workers under the college-educated managers."
She may wake up one day afterall. She may realize that the JW organization really is against her way of thinking about education.
I came back with "Not every last person needs a college education, but I have learned that the answer to absolutely everything is education. We need education to overcome ignorance and further education leads to research to find answers to all problems."
I went too far. She went back into JW mode and said how so much of higher learning does focus on unrealistic hopes of humans figuring things out. Oh well.
