  jehovah's witnesses say noah's flood happened c.2000bc.. interestingly a possible problem arises with the origins of the indo-european languagues b/c, which linguists have calcaluated(sp?

  )2 have originated about 8,900 years ago using a cognate database,hittite being near the root of the ie family followed by tocharian ,greek and armenian.. there4 the ie languagues spread with agriculture in2 europe arriving in scotland 5500 years ago.. question?.

  how will they explain this?

  the problem that I find with Language and the Tower of Babel story is that language can be traced back to common roots. So that most of the languages that we have today evolved from earlier languages and were not created all at once, as the account says. If an all powerfull being was to create many different languages, I would think that they would be completely different and not as similar as they are.

  if we have evolved my assumption is we still are evolving correct?

  or am i wrong in this assumption as well?

  with all that was wrought on jws this is one teaching i can not get past that of evolution v. creation.

  I have heard that the watchtower makes a hidden reference to evolution in the fact that they say Noah took two of every kind of animal, to make up for all of the room that would be required. This way he would only include two giraffes, rather that two of every species of giraffe; two butterflies, rather than two of every species; etc.. Then they let the reader roll of into thier natural stupid state that all JW literature puts you into so that you will not ask the question of how all of the species came back to populate the planet (evolution after Noah).

  this does not help me to believe the Noah story or feel like I need to get into a disscusion about it.

  Passing the time at boring meetings

  i was doing some cleaning this weekend and ran across a drawer with a few of my old calculators, including my very first one.

  today they have ones that are credit-card sized that do more.

  but i remember getting it when i was about 12 and in 6th or 7th grade and at that time in the late 70's a calculator this size was still sort of a gadget.. for some reason the first thing that bounced into my mind when i pulled it out and looked at it was my old hall at the time.

  i saw a post some time ago on this board that had to do with jehovah's name being inserted in the wrong place in the new testament.

  it dealt with a prophesy from the old testament concerning 'john the baptist' preparing the way for jesus.

  yes ... you heard me correctly.

  sometime ago we saw how chimps made tools by using other tools.

  we saw how they learned language and could construct a basic sentance on their own, as well as learn to read a little ... well now ... a new study has been completed where monkeys were paid tokens for completing certain tasks ... the monkeys saved up their tokens ... and then they were offered to trade their tokens for things like food, etc.

  you are correct in your thinking that evolution does not explain how the material got here. But then evolution does not try to explain that. In its simplest definition it talks about the change of a species over time. The process of how the first organisms got on this earth is a different science and a different theory and another creationist lie (just like the one about man descending from apes). The current theory of evolution that is held by most scientists is not the same as the one originally held by Darwin. Although, it still has the same core belief, change over time, the mountain of evidence and new procedures have allowed them to make more accurate statements.

  it is time for the yearbook to come out with its growth rates and statistics.

  i was wondering if anyone had any predictions for the year.

  my crystal ball is a little rusty from the years of misuse and being hidden during my time in the borg, so these numbers might be a little off.

  My crystal ball is a little rusty from the years of misuse and being hidden during my time in the borg, so these numbers might be a little off. I will guess that the worldwide growthrate will be a positive 3%, just to make everyone feel good. This will mean that the less industrialized nations will have to show some large increases (once again). The United States will show a 2% increase also to make up for the worldwide growth rate. I see Great Britain, France and Japan showing a 1% growth so that we think they are gaining some headway.

  Well, that is all I can get out of the crystal ball for now.

  I have used yahoo for most of my searches, because that is what I started with. I guess that I should look into google to see what they have to offer.
