I would ignore the "are you back" question and just tell him how great you and yours are doing, the way you would with any friend. That emphasizes and encourages the true personality rather than the cult personality, which is always a good thing.

Accidentally Got an Email from a JW. . .
by leavingwt ina few minutes ago, a former jw friend of mine (ex-bethelite) sent me a bulk email.
this happened once before, a few months back, i just deleted it, but found it curious that he hadn't removed all "known apostates" from his address book.. .
this time, i couldn't let it pass.

~sigh~
I want to laugh, I want to be entertained by this... but it just makes me sad. And creeped out. And a little scared of zealots.

I replied why should i just take it when someone is nasty?
And Blue Grass said:
Because that's what Jesus did.
Like when he was throwing the money changers' tables in the temple?

Understanding JW Recruiting Concepts Can Help Others To Leave
by AllTimeJeff inunderstanding jw recruiting concepts can help others to leave.
when i first left jehovah's witnesses (jw's), i was somewhat amused at the sheer amount of anti jw websites out there.
while websites like freeminds.org and jwfacts.com are great, (non hysterical sites that stress fact and presentation over emotional responses), there are at least 5 times as many other sites that act as if you should treat a jw at your door like you would a spreader of the ebola virus.. i don't disagree with the fact that jw's are somewhat dangerous and usually go for the low hanging fruit.

So true, Jeff, and well said!
It amazes me that some here left when they researched 607. Personally, my eyes always glazed over when the publications started rattling out dates and "fulfilled prophesies".
I didn't leave because of a falsehood or something that cannot be supported in scripture (good grief, birthday parties being verbotten aren't supported in scripture, yet I upheld that "defense" for years!) I left because I knew disfellowshipping and shunning was wrong... and it could never make a loving god happy. As you say... I left because of mistreatment... not of myself, but of the ones I love.
Nice thread.

Is Richard Dawkins an ostentatious acrimonious supercilious pusillanimous calumnious censorious vituperative querulous embittered obsessive and bombastic bully?
by slimboyfat inrichard dawkins closes down his free-thinking/free-thought site (www.richarddawkins.net) for 30 days to reconfigure it 'because too many morons were contributing drivel' (he doesn't put it quite like that!
) he is then surprised because those self-same contributors call him everything under the sun (i won't repeat the names flung at him on our ultra -refined boards).
he now wants the site more or less 'peer-reviewed' (by analogy with papers to learned/scientific journals having to be vetted by vips).

With his very polarized view, Dawkins adds a bit of balance to the big picture in our philosophical world.
I don't always agree with him, but I think he is very important, and greatly needed.

Great question, Jimmy.
My answer is no. Outsiders (oh, oops, I meant "worldly associations") were always very respectful of my "beliefs" and no one who knew anything about the Witnesses (even someone I worked with who had been a Witness at one time) ever said a disparaging word.
All is well. I trusted my own mind and heart... which is the best way to go.
I am finding this thread incredibly interesting... with most folks saying they would have distrusted anyone nay-saying anyway.
