Our Puppy did not make it.
by Sparkplug inwell after going to bed early for it has been a long day i was awaken by my fourteen year old and she was crying for the vet just called and the puppy i got them two weeks ago just died.
the breeder was at an expo at city hall and they all gave me those "mom i am going to die if i don't have her" looks till i forked over money i did not have for this lil baby beagle.
we brought her home and i thought my she must be so tired for she slept a lot the first day.

How do Cults recruit and keep their members?
by The wanderer in<!-- .style2 {font-family: verdana; font-size: 14px; } .style5 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; font-size: 14px; } .style7 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #1bad00; } .style9 {font-family: arial, sans-serif; color: #7b5d55; } --> how do cults recruit and keep their members?
it starts with learning something new that was not known before.
in the case of jehovah's witnesses, the individual is introduced.

It starts with learning something new that was not known before...
Perhaps you're right in the sense that they tell you something you think is a brilliant new "truth", when, of course, it is not true at all (we are talking about cults, here.) Mostly I think they start that sort of thing which quickly moves into telling you that you are different than everyone else and you are put under hardships and persecuted and make all of these sacrifices because YOU are BETTER than everyone else... you have the secret... you are the chosen lucky ones.
The pretty design graphics
Agh. Actually, my Mother was an artist, so I was always very uncomforably embarrassed by just how bad the society's illustrations were. Gaghck! I used to dream as a little girl of going to Bethel one day and doing decent illustrations for them. (On reflection this really makes me laugh, I guess I was more pompous than I thought!)
The "mental regulating" that takes place
I don't know... it still makes me kindof sad and angry. I'm just glad I survived it and got out!
Oh, and I'm sure jgnat will answer your question herself when she sees it, but... her beloved husband is a JW... she never was (but man, she has done her homework in the meantime!) -

Shunned by an old friend
by fullofdoubtnow inin all the years i was a jw, although i had many acquaintances, i only had 3 really close friends.
two of them are no longer jws.
one is trev, who is obviously a lot more than a friend to me now, and my friend marion left the wts a few months ago, with a lot of encouragement from me.. my other friend is still very much a jw, and when i was announced as no longer a jw last year, she phoned me to tell me how very upset and disappointed she was.

Strength and hugs to you, Dear. If nothing else, it lets you see how deep this deception runs.
I'm so sorry you have to endure it.

What are the Elders thinking? What are JW's thinking?
by Fisherman inthere was a time when most jw's solemly believed that the "end" was comming in their life time, that the preaching work was a life saving work and the most important work on earth and that the wts was god's organization, god's agency, the only channel of communication on earth.
i think that most jws today somewhat still vagely believe that now but i wonder, what is going on in the minds and hearts of the jws today?
what is everyone thinking?

I agree with FullofDoubt... "Think how devastating a blow it would be for those who have spent a lifetime in the org if it was proved beyond doubt that the wts is wrong. They don't want to hear that kind of proof."
How could they deal with such a devastating blow, indeed? I know one who shunned his mother who loved him like the sun, she had been incredibly faithful for years and then was disfellowshipped for a charge that needed help, not shunning. Not surprisingly, she died while disfellowshipped (due largely, I'm sure to the unbearable stress of that alone.) She had no one to talk to in the entire world... she had been a diehard Witness for decades (and she did indeed, die HARD.) Now, how is he supposed to admit that the voice that forced him to do this to his beloved mother was LYING?
Ironically, now his health is not the best. His mother was not supposed to die before the "new order", and certainly not the way she did. And now... he too... is growing old...
Needless to say, he's a pretty damned depressed and grumpy individual.
What they are thinking: "It is the Truth, and that is why I treated my irreplaceable beloved ones like vomit until they died." -

CAN YOU FEEL THE LOVE HERE?
by Mary inlast night i was at a friends house (ex-witnesses).
they faded several years ago, much to her parents and her children's annoyance.
her parents live out west but were coming to toronto for a visit.

When I read the title, I thought you meant the love "here" at the forum. And I do. When I read and realized, no, those people obviously do NOT have love amongst themselves... and it is nauseating.
Hey, Mary, is your Mom getting better?
Hugs,

What Witnesses do better than anybody!
by gordon d inthe one thing that i have to say about the wts is that they crank out some of the best apostates anywhere!.
i've only been here a few weeks but i am already so addicted to this forum.... the people here are unbelievable!.
probably a mix of the most knowledgeable, helpful, compassionate, and open-minded people anywhere on the net.. the way everyone jumps in to offer their support when someone else is feeling down or hurting, the resources of information that are there for the asking, and the non-judgemental attitudes that people convey, even when they dis-agree..... it boggles the mind... how, in the world, did any of you ever attend the kh?????.

WELCOME, Dark Princess!
Actually, true Wiccans have a very respectful and benevolent attitude. They believe that whatever they put out into the world will come back to them three-fold, (positive or negative) so they strive to concentrate on the positives.
We are very glad you are here, Dear, stay a while. There are several practicing Wiccans posting here.
(And hey there, hi there, Miss Melissamouse!)

Woah, AWESOME that they have an article on that now, Blondie... look how new it is!
Last updated: 23 September 2006
Last I checked Snopes, it didn't have ANY article containing the phrase Jehovah's Witnesses in it ANYWHERE... much to my chagrin. This rocks.
Thanks for the heads up
