Does WTS claim that Jesus 2nd presence was in 1874 or 1914? (non-JW asks)
by whyizit ini'm not a jw, nor have i ever been, so some of the things that my jw friends tell me just don't seem to make sense.
to avoid conflict in our friendship, sometimes i just let things slide, rather than argue.
i am, however, a bible-believing, non-denominational christian who reads and studies the bible frequently, and loves yahweh.. my jw friend just slipped yet another wt magazine in my door and it says that: "jesus christ began to rule as king of god's kingdom in 1914.

JW's book "Let your Kingdom come"(1981) argues against history and 586/607
by booker-t ini was given the book "let your kingdom come" by the jw's the other day that showed me why the jw's and wts are right about 607. in the appendix they bring up that historians argue against the 607 date but why jw's are right due to the bible and unreliable tablets.
i was so confused after reading the appendix in the let your kingdom come book that i actually had a "headache" and put the book down.
the jw's elder wants to come over and study this appendix with me trying to prove the 607 date is right.

Liberalism and muslims
by JeffT ini found this editorial very interesting.
every one on this board has personal experience with religious fanaticism.
we should be thinking about that when we are talking about the current state of the world.

Why not a JW version of talkorigins.org?
by skeptic2 inafter seeing the latest 607 thread, i wonder whether it might be a good idea to start a site that collects this kind of information (if it doesn't already exist), similar to what talkorigins.org does for evolution.
maybe call it www.talkwitnesses.org or something... and it's purpose would be something like (adapted from talkorigins' description): .
the talk witnesses archive is a collection of articles and essays.

Richard Dawkins Foundation for Reason and Science
by skeptic2 inhe has set up as foundation but with a slight difference: there are two, one in the us, and one the uk, with the same name, in order to make the most benefit from the tax-breaks that apply to charities.
i currently give from the uk to the center for inquiry in the us, it would be nice to give to a uk based organization and know they were getting more from my money.
mission statement/video is here: .

Updated Macroevolution FAQ on talkorigins.org
by skeptic2 injohn wilkins who writes a blog called the panda's thumb, has announced an updated version of the macroevolution faq on talkorigins.org.
the macroevolution faq is now in version 2. the original faq was a bit light on for discussion, and i wanted to deal with some technical issues.
it is not a comprehensive review of the concept, but of the meaning of the concept and a couple of philosophical issues it raises.
