Uh, take "science department of a college" with a grain of salt.

It's a pro-creationist, Baptist-affiliated, junior college in Jacksonville, Texas.

NO ONE who comes out of that college will have an accurate view of science- but they might just make it to GWB's educational or scientific advisory boards...
