They won't leave me alone!!!! What can I do?
by almostbitten ini'm new to this site.
i'm not a jw but have studied with them largely because i wanted to know for myself what jws believed and wanted to hear it from them, not from others (i.e.
catholics, baptists, methodists, etc.).

I guess I'm going to have to launch a full intellectual attack
No you don't. An intellectual discussion with JWs about doctrine will be one-sided and never-ending. You accepted a study, it didn't work for you, make that the end of the story. Just tell them I'M NOT INTERESTED, I DON'T BELIEVE THIS CRAP, PLEASE LEAVE ME ALONE, and then get on with your life.
They can't suck you further into this without your permission and participation. Just walk away. -

Thanks for posting that, lilyflor, though I feel like I need a shower after listening to it.
At around 3:45, the mocking, fake-weeping sounds he makes when gloating over the "horrors to come" -- this person is cruel and insane!
The entire talk is lunacy, horrible and crazy, but even worse is to think of crowds of glassy-eyed people smiling and nodding as they listen.
SICK SICK SICK -

"He explains how Armagedon is almost here...Babylon will soon fall...clergy in brokylin are being put in jail now...some have had there faces slashed...people breaking into convents and "robbing Nuns...RAPING NUNS" He used extra emphasis!???? He says imagine the great tribulation people will be "clubbing to death clergy and College Professors".....for not encouraging them to study with Witnesses...{Is this Brother on drugs!} Then out of no-where he slams the "new anionted" brothers who are the "biggest trouble makers in the congregations" Some are just newly baptized! He then goes on to say how happy brothers will be who "gave all their money to the Kingdom Hall instead of loosing it at Armagedon."
My God! This sounds crazy and surreal. I am not familiar with this talk. How did you keep your composure listening to this??
I'm sorry you had to waste an evening of your life in this way, UGH.
P.S. If this talk is here somewhere, can someone provide a link? I would be interested to hear/read it. -

This is terrible, I'm so sorry.
Maybe after a little time has passed, you and your family can do something together to honor and remember her. I really liked the story a poster above shared about having a "photo tile" made and putting it under his dog's favorite tree; maybe you could do something like that together with your son.
I am sorry for your loss -

Resurrection Hope - People in the Future who think they have lived before
by VM44 inaccording to the watchtower, a resurrected being is a body that has placed within it the memories and attributes of a person who had lived before.. the "life force" is transferred to the body to bring it alive.
also according to the watchtower, the "life force" is impersonal and contains no personality.
it is like electricity in that it is an actuating force.. ok, so in the future there will be billions of people with memories of having lived on the earth.

Well, I think that the scenario "sort of" works as a hope for JWs who are living NOW, because they basically teach that Armageddon is sooooo close, and surviving Armageddon means you'll still be "you" in the new system and not one of the clone beings (I think?). So I can see how it wouldn't be AS disturbing, looking at it like that, because after all why fret about people who died long before you, whom you never even knew. For loved ones who have died that JWs hope to see again in the new system, I believe the average JW just refuses to think about things like this. It's a fragile, shallow hope that falls to pieces upon close examination.
Having said all that, I do think the entire scenario IS extremely ghoulish. I would much rather die and stay dead than exist in such a system, as either an intact Armageddon survivor or a resurrected clone. The whole thing just seems horrible to me and I will never understand the appeal. -

Marking for reference, because I am really curious to see the answers to this.
I have never been able to understand the great appeal of the resurrection and the paradise; to me it sounds like a nightmare (for many reasons, beyond this one). I would much rather be dead! My JW says I feel this way because I don't understand it, fair enough LOL but I've yet to hear an explanation that makes it sound good. Sure the parts about people petting lions and never getting sick and so on and so forth sound good, but any real questions (like the one posed in this thread) that go beyond the silly surface stuff get completely glossed over, as if they just don't think about them and don't WANT to think about them.
To me the whole scenario sounds wretched and creepy and worse than death. -

This thread is an absolute delight! It has made me smile :-)
My humble query:
Dear Happy Homemaker,
For one who has been grossly negligent with cleaning duties over a long span of time, at what point does it make more sense to just burn the house to the ground and start over?
I am asking for a friend, of course
