A friend of mine who left about 7 years ago challenged his elder father on this point prior to him leaving. His father backed down and said that an announcement wouldn't be made if someone were reproved if no one else knew of it. He admitted to him that in fact this has actually happened in the congregation. Yet the rank and file did not know who this was. Protecting the flock hey?

"The God of the Old Testament is arguably the most unpleasant character...
by digderidoo in...in all fiction:jealous and proud of it; petty, unjust, unforgiving, control freak; a vindictive, bloodthirsty, ethnic cleanser; a misogynistic, homophobic, racist, infanticidal, genocidal, filicidal, pestilential, megalomaniacal, sadomasochistic, capriciously malevent bully.
", says richard dawkins in the god delusion p51.
he goes on to say, "those of us schooled from infancy in his ways can become desensitized to their horror".. would you agree?.

I have a 1986 Volvo 740 Estate. One of the best cars i have owned. Great work horse, lasts forever. I have spent this afternoon changing the water pump on it. I wouldn't even contemplate getting under the bonnet of a new car.

A little about me
by MominAustin ini, too, was raised as a jw.
my mom still goes to the meetings and out in service when she can, but due to age, she has some troubles (she's 69 and legally blind).
my oldest sister is very active although her teenage daughters are inactive and disfellowshipped for very unfair reasons.

Obves, I think you may be referring to a different book.
Abandoned, I havent gone to a different AA group. I decided to mention how i feel within the group and hear what people had to say on the matter. Some interesting points were made and there has been a lot of support from people on here who attend the AA. For now i am going to continue with this group and glad i have brought my feelings on the matter out into the open.

I have just finished reading Crisis of Conscience by Raymond Franz. I only stumbled across this book on Wednesday in the town library while waiting for a public computer. The last couple of days in the UK has seen miserable weather which has effected my work so i have had plenty of spare time to read this book. I have heard about it on the net but have never sought the book out or had any intention of reading it. I wished i had read it many years ago when i left the WTBTS and would recommend it to anyone in the process of leaving the society.
As i have previously mentioned on other posts i have just started attending AA meetings. My way of dealing with my JW past has not been confronted obviously because i was too wasted to care. Upon attending recent AA meetings the issue of God has been mentioned within the AA forcing me to look at why i feel the way i do about these issues.
This book is an incredible read, helping me to do exactly this. I have never read a book so quick, not being able to put it down. Highly recommended.

Donations instead of charges for WT & Awake. Is it worldwide?
by digderidoo inwhen i left the wtbts the change occured where no longer the magazines were being charged for, i think it was about 30p for the pair, but instead it was left for a 'voluntary' contribution.. i have heard from an x jw, who was the congregation accountant at the time that this change wasn't worldwide.
it was only changed because contributions weren't taxable in certain countries.
at the time we were told it changed because we didn't want to be classed as 'book selllers'.. is this the case?

FemaleThinking?
by R.Crusoe ini have often heard women speak about men who think with their meat and two veg!.
it is as if they lay claim to a theory that all male agendas form as thoughts which mainly travel down the cerabal cortex and out through the zipper before coming to life in the real world.. but how do men think women think?.
.

I haven't a clue how women think. Men are from Mars, Women are from Venus.

Avatar - Because i am 6ft 3in and at the time i first registered i was 19 stone (266llbs) - today i am 15.5 stone (217llbs). I have been described as the size of a gorilla. But the thing i like about gorillas is that although they can be intimidating, they look after their own and are gentle to there families. Someone once asked, i think it was on this board what animal you would liken yourself to, i answered a gorilla.
As for my name digderidoo. I love the didgeridoo and the sound of it. When i registered i spelt it wrong! Took me ages to log on again the next time i visited JWD and had to browse through my posts for ages before i realised my mistake!

The origin of angels and demons
by jacethespace ingenesis 6:1-2- and it came to pass, when men began to multiply on the face of the earth and daughters were born unto them.2 that the sons of god saw the daughters of men that they were fair and they took them wives of all which they chose.. 4 there were giants in the earth in those days and also after that when the sons of god came in unto the daughters of men and they bare children to them the same became mighty men which were of old men of renown.. some intresting questions to ask jws who come to see you:.
1 has god given angels the power and capability to reproduce?.
2 how did the sons of god come to the earth and take women for themselves and there women produce children if they could not reproduce?.
