thanks, blondie. too bad that wasn't the case when i was reproved -- would have saved me some small bit of embarassment, at any rate.

How Jehovah's Witnesses are told to treat disfellowshipped Relatives.
by jwfacts inin another thread it was mentioned the witnesses do not shun disfellowshipped relatives, so i thought i would copy a few articles that show the watchtower says quite definitely that they are to almost totally shun relatives, along with some examples that i know personally.
i personally know many that have not been contacted by their parents for years;my cousin was my best friend, and for a year before my disfellowshipping week after week i spent hours with her and her child, who spent 4 months of his first year in hospital.
on the day of my disfellowshipping i was informed that i am no longer welcome there, and i have not seen my second cousin for 6 months now.

i have heard that the disfellowshipping policy has changed to some small degree... i may be entirely wrong, seeing as how i've been out for about eight years now, but i heard that they no longer use the term "brother or sister so-and-so has been disfellowshipped". i hear that now brother or sister so-and-so is "no longer one of jehovah's witnesses". is this correct? and, if so, does anyone know why the change? does it really make much of a difference either way, as you'd still be shunned? just wondering...

I'm really ticked right now!!!
by sammielee24 insituation ugly.
long story short - adult children have refused contact with df'd father for a few years.
(except for the initial obligatory hate letter full of references to satan and some disgusting name calling).

i'm sorry to hear that, sammieswife... i think "family emergency" all depends on the family. when my grandpa was sick with cancer, my uncle (who's been df'd for as long as i've been alive, i think) was there visiting, and my granparents were fine with it -- that constituted a family emergency for them. they won't discuss spiritual matters, but do talk re: family stuff, financial stuff (my grandpa died a couple of years ago, and my uncle helps my grandma out when he can -- my uncle is also ill). my grandpa was po for a long time. but, with other family members, it's different -- when my cousin told them he was gay, my grandpa told him to get off the property, even though my cousin was always willing to help out when my granparents were in poor health.
my own parents are similar -- my sister was da'd some time ago (it was handled improperly, but i digress)... and my mom wouldn't talk to her for about two years. my dad would visit and call, but not tell my mom. i haven't had contact with my parents for quite some time, now, and don't even get notified of emergencies (my mom had to have a hysterectomy last year, and nobody told me anything about it.)
so i guess it all depends on the family member, the current depth of belief in the jw memebers, and the emergency. or something. sorry, i kinda hijacked to share my own stuff. didn't mean to.

one sister volunteered to find out about the process of refining silver and get back to the group at the next book study.

i know of one jw kid who has: "i'm a jehovah's witness and damn proud of it" on their page...

don't you just looove those jw poems? they're all poorly written, and full of such vivid imagery... and, of course, any time you make contact with anyone who's not a witness, you're totally setting yourself up for a life full of beatings, unemployed spouses, and horrible diseases. i know it's happened to *every* single person i've ever met who's "fallen" out of the truth... i must have at least seventeen different diseases (all of which are untreatable -- i have HIV three times over), and i get beat every hour on the hour. oh, if only i'd gone to the meeting that one sunday when i was 22... none of this would have happened. i would be married to a fine brother with a good job doing janitorial work and barely able to support our four kids while pioneering and giving what little extra we earn to the society...

When at the convention ; Top reasons for going
by free2beme ini was thinking about this the other day, and wondering what others felt about the district convention.
namely, what was the main thing you wanted from it?
a few i remember were these.. 1. number one every single year was that i wanted new information on when armageddon was coming and how close we were to the end.

i always liked going because it was a chance to catch up with old friends and family that i hadn't seen for a year. also, we didn't get to go on many vacations, so this was about it for our family. my best friend and i lived in different states and only got to see each other at the convention, so i *really* looked forward to it. we'd write notes to each other during the convention, instead of only taking notes on what the speakers said. we'd also count how many times we clapped -- for each speaker, and for the whole day. now *that's* boredom, folks!

Do antidepressants really work? or placibo?
by boy@crossroads ini've posted on freeminds for over a year now but i rarely post on the medical treatment forum.
i believe i've had depression or some other milder form of depression for many months but i haven't gotten antidepressants for a couple of reasons 1.pride- i feel that taken antidepressants is admittion that i'm weak, 2. fear- i don't have health insurance and i'm afraid of the financial reprocussions of prescriptions and mental healthcare visits.
3. i'm also afraid that by taking the medication it will have no affect (wasted money) or that i will be worse off after taking them than if i had done nothing.. give me some of your thoughts.

i've had a difficulty with depression since my early teens, and can truthfully say that anti-depressants work wonders when you have the right one. it may take some time to find the right one, but it's a worthwhile reason. i went through a number of different drugs, and zoloft is my personal "mental savior". even then, it takes a bit of time for your body to adjust -- if i go off it for a while and then need to start taking it again, i get nausea (sometimes vomiting), and other side effects, but i know this is just temporary. it takes about two weeks for it to really start being used effectively by your body. i didn't have health insurance when i needed it at times, but my doctor had a sliding scale payment plan based on my income. i even had to be hospitalized for a short period of time, and they used the sliding scale for that, as well. samples are good to ask for, too -- just let your doctor know that you're concerned about the cost, and they can usually hook you up with a generic drug that works but just isn't as expensive. i hope you manage to get what you need.

Did You Believe "The End" Was Going To Come In Your Lifetime?
by minimus inwhen the society came out in 1966 with the info that 6000 years of man's existence would come to an end by 1975, i thought it was a crock.
for 9 long years, all jws did was speculate about "when" the great tribulation was going to begin.
i always thought of jesus' words about "nobody knowing the day or the hour"----yet jehovah's witnesses figured it out?

puck
i did. but in a blurry sort of way. i was pretty sure that if those things were going to happen, they would be during my lifetime because when you're young, you don't quite *get* that there's life behind, beyond and before you. when you arrived was when time began, y'know? and then i just decided that, no, it wasn't going to happen. but every so often i get a bit of a jolt from world events, ie: desert storm, the current war, and 9/11.
