  Funerals and Disfellowshipped Individuals

  not to "hijack" dogpatch's recent thread, but the experience he relayed in the above topic struck a nerve and i was curious for more input.. http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/jw/friends/188715/1/my-aunts-funeral-at-the-kingdom-hall.

  if there is ever a time when a shred of human dignity and compassion is deserved, it is at a funeral.. i am appalled by the way disfellowshipped individuals are treated, but especially at witness funerals.. the flesh and blood relatives have the right to be there if they choose.

  if you are a witness and you are offended by a disfellowshipped person attending, dont let the door hit you in the @$$ on the way out.

  If there is ever a time when a shred of human dignity and compassion is deserved, it is at a funeral.

  Your thoughts about funerals are a reality for me. My father died on Monday, and his KH funeral service will be on Saturday. I left the dubs more than 30 years ago, and though never DAed or DFed, many shun me.

  There will be a viewing on Friday for family only, and that's when I will tell my JW mom that I will not attend the KH service on Saturday.

  On top of grieving for my father (which is bad enough), I'll have to deal with the hysterics of my dub relatives over my "heartless" behavior.

  Today is not a good day to be me.

  Raising Chickens!

  i had another great idea the other day; raise chickens!

  in this rapidly changing recessionary world, i cast my mind back to stories of the depression.

  farmers fared better than urban dwellers.

  I thought about keeping a few egg-layers a while back. I did some reading about their care (I strongly recommend this) and concluded that --

  1--They tie you down. You can't go anywhere for more than a day without getting someone to come care for your birds.

  2--They're a lot of work. They need special feed, hot mashes, constantly fresh drinking water, shelter for roosting and laying, heat in the winter, cooling in the summer, protection from dogs, cats, hawks, and any juvenile deliquents in the neighborhood.

  3--If you keep them for eggs, they lay for only 3-4 years, depending on the breed, and if you're unwilling to slaughter them then, you will have eggless pet chickens for the next 6-7 years of their natural lifespan.

  4--If you just keep hens, you have to watch over them closely because they tend to wander and get into trouble without a rooster around. If you get a rooster, make sure you have no neighbors and that you don't mind constant crowing throughout the day AND night.

  For me, the disadvantages of keeping chickens outweighed the advantages of fresh, good-tasting eggs.

  Don't ask questions

  several weeks ago, a witness poster said that the rank and file at his cong were told by elders not to ask questions.

  i may have misunderstood what the poster was saying.

  has anyone on the forum heard anything like this?

  Is it not ok to ask questions in the kingdom halls during meetings?

  That's right. No questions, no discussions, no thinking.

  And, if you ask too many questions after the meetings, they'll tell you to stop ... or else.

  I asked too many questions and ... now I'm no longer a dub.

  Thank goodness.

  Mill Hill Disfellowshippings and JW prayers

  the following comment was posted in the "mill hill disfellowshipping" thread:.

  all 4 were disfellowshipped for believing that the entirety of the ransom, including the new covenant, and the mediatorship and everything else in the bible, applied to everyone.. if that is the case, why do all of the jw prayers, public and private, end with "we pray this through your son, jesus christ, amen"?.

  ending prayers like this implies that the payer is going through jesus, hence jesus is the mediator for all prayers made by jws!.

  I have a small one. It works well except that the wash/dry cycle takes a longer time than a conventional washer and dryer.

  so I ticked a professor off

  i missed the last two days of class, and did not email him before class telling him i was going to miss.

  evidently this was a requirement for the class.

  he emailed me today and told me i could not return to class until i meet with him and the school dean, and if i didn't do it by monday he was going to assign an f for the course.

  In the future, in order to avoid these self-appointed guardians of the sacred knowledge, get to know some upperclassmen. They'll tell you which profs are jerks and which ones are knowledgeable and fair.

  I once attended a graduate class from a prof who stated in his syllabus that he was going to work his students so hard, they had better learn to love coffee. I dropped the class the next day and added another with a more reasonable prof.

  Nothing worse than a gasbag who has power over you.
