  Switching congregations

  did any of you start going to another hall if there were problems in your last congregation?

  it happens a lot now.

  when someone has an unresolved problem, they decide to go to a neighboring congregation..

  restrangled: I have sister in law that switched so many times she is fianlly in Mexico. Nothing to do with JW's... even they couldn't tolerate her.....shes just a real prize.....but she does wear the JW name proudly.....

  You do have more than your share of in-law trouble, restrangled. I remember when you were going through the wringer with your mother-in-law. With all respect to your husband, it sounds like he has one doozy of a family.

  Regarding the thread topic, switching KHs can be helpful if you want to avoid someone in particular. I know of an elder that switched to another KH because he couldn't stand his own mother any more.

  Of course, the best switch is from the KH to the freedom of the real world.

  So If Someone's been Pagan they can't be RE-instated???

  i noticed this comment by awen on cyberjesus' thread about needing help because the elders were going to call and he wanted to perform an intervention.... awen wrote: "i was informed by one of the elders (not the po, but someone with "pull") that because i had been involved in paganism after i was disfellowshipped, that i would have to wait longer for reinstatement than for the immorality i was originally dfed for 10 years before that.

  i pleaded my case that i was no longer practicing that and had been out of it for a year prior to seeking reinstatement and that it shouldn't matter.

  i came to learn from this elder that because of my pagan practices, in his opinion i would never be reinstated....".

  If pagans can't be reinstated, then Buddhists, Native Americans who practice their tribal religion must also be non-reinstate-able. It's all "paganism."

  lima (reuters) - peruvian police said on thursday they had broken up a gang that allegedly killed dozens of people and sold their fat to buyers who used it to make cosmetics.. advertisement.

  four peruvians were arrested on suspicion of kidnapping, murder and trafficking in human fat.. the group stored the fat it collected in used soda and water bottles, which police showed reporters.. "we have people detained who have declared and stated how they murdered people with the aim being to extract their fat in rudimentary labs and sell it," said police commander angel toldeo.. in addition to those taken into custody, police said they were searching for others who bought fat from the gang or might have worked with it.. remains from some of the victims were found at a rural house in the region of huanuco where the group worked, according police video.. police said they were investigating 60 disappearances in the area that might be linked to the gang.. the investigation started this month after police heard about a shipment of fat that arrived in lima by bus from peru's mountains.. (reporting by carlos valdez and terry wade; editing by todd eastham).

  This sentence would make even an announcement that so-and-so is "no longer one of Jehovah's Witnesses" a violation, since such an announcement would affect his status as a Christian and his relationship with others.

  If the elders ever come a'callin', this is what they'll get from my lawyer.

  Why not, if you wanted to maintain a relationship with dub relatives? The dubs themselves don't hesitate to play hardball when it suits them.

  in another thread the question of whether or not the wt$ would "outright lie" was raised.. i happen to believe that they would in a heartbeat, although i agree that their preference is for sneaky misleading statements as opposed to outright lies.

  regardless, here's a short list of some of what i consider incontrovertible evidence that yes, the wt$ would outright lie.. .

  Christmas

  i am sure there is a topic already abput this somewhere, but i am too lazy to search so i beg your indulgence :).

  my little one sofia asked me about christmas the other day ( she is 6) and of course she mentioned how grandma said that christmas is not the day jesus was born and that it is a pagan day !!!.

  PSacramento, your answer to your child about Christmas was great. However, IMHO, it would have been better not to let Grandma put her dub ideas into your child's head in the first place.

  When my son was little, I made sure my mother (a dub) understood that visits with her grandson were dependent on her not filling his head with dub trash. With a few exceptions (speedily corrected by me), she complied.

  You're the parent. You have the obligation to protect your child from cults, even if they come in the form of Grandma.

  When I was young, I never took a flu shot. Then I caught the type B flu (the milder one!). After that experience, I got and still get a flu shot yearly. In the more than 25 years since, I've never caught the flu.

  Santa Claus

  i was thinking about if i should start telling my 2 year old about santa claus.

  after realizing that i've been lied to my whole life from all the jw bullcrap should i lie to my child about santa claus?

  do you think its ok to say, "be good or santa wont bring you any toys this christmas.

  Our son believed in Santa until he was 11. His enlightened classmates often tried to convince him otherwise, even to the point of searching the house for hidden gifts (we had to shuttle the loot around) until he was convinced.

  Finally, he found the wrapping paper in our closet, and brought it to my husband. He had to confess. My son said he pretty much didn't believe from 9 years old on, but wasn't absolutely sure. His other response is priceless: "Hmmph. So I guess this means there's no tooth fairy, either?"

  I'd keep the fiction going as long as possible. Belief in Santa makes Christmas magical for little kids. From the time they enter school, however, be prepared for the inevitable disclosures her classmates will make.

  Do you think its OK to say, "Be good or Santa wont bring you any toys this Christmas."

  We never made Santa a heavy, except in the most light-hearted teasing way. He knew darn well enough he was getting presents no matter what.
