Absolutely, yes, I want to live forever.
Or to put it more accurately, I want to live until I choose not to anymore. I could envision a time and place where I would look around at my past and my present, satisfied, and say "I have truly enjoyed all that there is to enjoy, I have seen every amazing thing this universe has to offer, and I am ready to stop living now." But it would be MY choice.
I want to live forever.

This discovery gives immensely powerful support to the proposition that dinosaur fossils are not millions of years old at all, but were mostly fossilized under catastrophic conditions a few thousand years ago at most.
LOL, really? Even if we took all your false claims at face value (claims which Leolaia has done a more-than-competent job of debunking by simply, actually reading the same article you did), would the sequencing of dino-DNA and the discovery of dino-blood and dino-tissue really give "immensely powerful support" to that proposition?
Would any normal person, on discovering these things, suddenly slap their forehead and shout "Eureka! This tissue must have been fossilized under catastrophic conditions a few thousand years ago at most!"
No.
No, only someone who took the ancient, distilled-from-much-older-oral-traditions, many-times-copied, many-times-translated writings of a thousands-of-years gone tribe of nomadic desert shepherds as the literal, inerrant, perfect Word of an angry, jealous, petty, insecure, rage-filled, vengeant God, in opposition of every shred of unified evidence produced in the last three hundred years in the fields of astronomy, geology, biology, phsyics, hydrology, radiology, paleontology, and meteorology, the work of many, many thousands of learned men and women who arrived at the same conclusions completely independently, using completely unrelated discoveries from a broad, diverse set of scientific disciplines in both the hard and soft sciences, all of which completely and harmoniously agree with each other, would do that.
Non sequitur, Perry. It does not follow.

Would you do it for the sake of the kids?
by pratt1 ini have a very close friend, who is still an active dub.
we have known each other since we were kids and we have been able to maintain a strong friendship - we are actually more like brothers than friends.. we have reached a truce - i don't try to talk him out of being a dub and he doesn't try to talk me out of being an apostate.. we have both worked hard to honor this rule.. my problem is, i am the "godfather" of his son.
meaning if something should happen to him and his wife, i would raise his son.. i have a very close relationship with the boy, he is 7 and smart as a whip.

My opinion is--go see the kid's talk. I wouldn't look at this any differently than attending a school play. It's the kid's moment--he's practiced--he wants approval more for his effort than for the content anyways. Ten years from now the kid will put it all into perspective and understand why you went.
On the other hand not going could be devastating for the child, and could increase his sense of worldly persecution. You are well aware that this is something that the Society exploits to control members--you know the drill "As you advance in your service to Jehovah, some of your friends and relatives will express negative thoughts and may even try to persecute you. This proves that Satan is stepping up worldly pressure on you and that you are doing the right thing!" It's textbook.
My opinion is that not going could undermine any efforts you might try to make in the future to inject balance and rational thinking into his life. -

by minimus inlast night on the news a woman was told by a store manager that she could not in public breastfeed her child.
she and her husband were quite offended and complained to the company's main offices.
they are now looking into this situation.. what's your opinion?

The point is that most mothers feel it to be demeaning to be asked to go ANYWHERE special to feed their babies. Being asked to go a place specifically designed for shitting in, no matter how clean it is kept, just is adding insult to injury.
Then why is there a special place in bathrooms for changing babies? A baby feeding = natural, a baby shitting = disgusting.
And the ice gets thinner. There is a special place in bathrooms for changing babies (sometimes, if the proprietors give a crap about mothers or have updated their bathroom lately) because the bathroom is a place for dealing with shit. That's what the place is for. Asking someone to go in there for other "undesirable, offensive" activities like feeding one's child is implying that those things are similarly unclean and/or wrong. You are deliberately trying NOT to get this point.
The comparison between breastfeeding and injecting oneself with medicine to deal with a life-threatening disease is particularly inept
A mother needs to feed her baby by exposing her breast, an insulin dependent diabetic (usually) needs to inject themselves by exposing their butt. Either of which someone can get offended by seeing. I'm comparing the exposing of a body part for a necessary life function of the person, I don't see how exactly that illustration is "inept".
Again, you're equating being a good parent and feeding one's child with having a disease. Do you see how you are thinking about this? Now you have said that breastfeeding is equivalent to both a) shitting and b) having diabetes.
Besides, as far as exposing body parts goes, I have to expose my hand for a necessary life function (eating). Why should someone be offended by someone else exposing their breast, over my exposing my hand? Explain to me why you don't want to see a breast, but don't mind seeing a hand.
I don't see why this continually gets to the argument. The question is "would you be offended by this" which people have responded with they would be
offended by a woman taking out her breast in public regardless of the reason. The question was "your view of breastfeeding in public," not "would you be offended." It's interesting that you jumped straight to that, though. What I haven't heard is why you find this offensive.
You can tell me a hundred times that there's nothing dirty about it, you can tell me there's nothing offensive but you're stating your opinion.
My superior opinion. So you are saying that breastfeeding is offensive and dirty? Again, why?
In your opinion this should be allowed, in my opinion I don't want to see some woman's breast while I'm trying to shop.
I don't want to see some deformed guy, or an amputee, or a kid with snot running down its face, or some pizzafaced teenager, and yet I have to. Living with other humans sometimes entails seeing things one would rather have not seen. Taking offense when one sees something one would rather have not seen is taking it to another level. You go from "that sight is distasteful to me" to "that person has wronged me with their existence." Are you comfortable making that statement?
It's really strange if I kiss my wife in public passionately some people will get offended and will tell us to "get a room", if a same sex couple kisses in public more people will probably be offended, but I don't hear anyone saying anything about changing society's morals to allow this freedom of expression. The complete freedom of expressing love, but if I say that I'd rather not see a woman's breast in public regardless of what's attached to it, my morals need to change.
Ah, so now feeding one's baby is the same as playing tonsil hockey, and should be treated the same way. Another great comparison. Just as a side point I think people (including you) are too uptight about PDA too.
And yeah, if you say you'd rather not see a woman's breast, and yet you're okay with seeing men without shirts, then yes, your morals need to change. Someone who feels that way is a woman-hating sexist.
So far the reasons people are giving for breastfeeding in public is that:
1.) It's natural: and so is going to the bathroom, which I don't want to see either.
2.) It's inconvinient to have to go somewhere to feed the child: This just sounds ridiculous to me, alot of things are inconvinient we don't change them to accomidate everyone in society.
Something I'm missing?
1) "It's natural" is not a good reason for breastfeeding in public, but I'd point out that you are again equating this most loving act a mother can perform for her child with defecation.
2) Yes we do. Ramps for the wheelchair-bound. Noise laws. Handicapped parking. Inconvenience is a great reason for changing society. People have already tried to explain this to you and you didn't get it, but I'll try again: Imagine if you were only allowed to eat at the mall was in one specific room, way across the whole mall, away from everyone else who was eating.
So I ask you again: why is breastfeeding offensive to you? Why are women's breasts offensive to you for that matter? Why don't you want to see them? Why do you say breastfeeding is dirty? I just don't get it.

Seconding what Leolaia said, it's the idea that one dialect or another is "superior" or "inferior," or less or more "articulate," that is offensive. They are all just different dialects of English, with specific and quantifiable rules. In this case the dialect being referred to is African American Vernacular English, or AAVE. A very good description of AAVE can be found at http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/African_American_Vernacular_English. So, that's my take--you can say someone sounds "black." It is "wrong" to say someone who sounds "black" is "inarticulate"-- what you're really saying is "people who don't sound like me are inarticulate."

This is the Boston Legal writers commenting on a political flap involving Joe Biden back in February. You can read at this link http://www.cnn.com/2007/POLITICS/01/31/biden.obama/ for more background.
No, it's not wrong to acknowledge that there are many different dialects of English in use in the world and that some of them are specific to certain cultural or ethnic groups. This is just a linguistic fact.
However, of course, everything depends on context and circumstances. It would be easy to make racist statements and express racist opinions when talking about dialect. -

Tuesday, you've gotten off on a tangent. The point is that most mothers feel it to be demeaning to be asked to go ANYWHERE special to feed their babies. Being asked to go a place specifically designed for shitting in, no matter how clean it is kept, just is adding insult to injury. The comparison between breastfeeding and injecting oneself with medicine to deal with a life-threatening disease is particularly inept.
The point, as I tried to make it in my last post, is that nobody should be required to "cover up" when feeding their children, just to avoid offending some neurotic weirdo who gets physically sick at the sight of someone being a good mother, or to keep some oversexed misogynist pig from being inconvenienced by his boner, or to prevent some withered old harridan from being filled with righteous indignation because her Victorian-era morals are being challenged. Covering up implies that there is something dirty or offensive about feeding one's children; there is not.
The only time a woman should cover up when feeding her child is when she herself feels uncomfortable, or is MADE uncomfortable by the outdated, offensive reactions of others. The point is that it is HER choice to do this. -

Paul was a misogynist, possibly homosexual (NOT THAT THERE'S ANYTHING WRONG WITH THAT), ex-Pharisee Roman citizen.
Paul took everything that was good about what Jesus did and turned it around. He re-injected into Christianity the judgmentalism, focus on rules, and authoritarian hierarchy inherent in the Judaism of that time that Jesus had done away with. He turned The Way into something much less subversive and more acceptable to the Roman government.
On many occasions he laid down what was obviously (and sometimes even admittedly) his own personal opinion as law for his brothers and sisters to follow.
He was self-aggrandizing, arrogant, and held forth on many topics such as child-rearing and marriage that he had absolutely no personal experience of.
He had many disagreements with the apostles and frequently went off in directions completely opposite what they, as people who had personally known and been taught by Christ, thought best. He was proud of his independence from them.
His sole claim to authority was a completely unverifiable miraculous experience that he claimed happened to him while traveling. The one Christian who could partially verify his story was the man who laid his hands on him and cured his blindness; the entire experience could have been faked by Paul. "Praise Jesus, I can see again!" *nudge* *nudge* *wink* *wink*
True Christians follow Christ. If you are following a brand of "Christianity" that includes all of Paul's writings, you may as well call yourself a Paulian. I have no doubt Jesus himself would have recoiled in horror at what his followers had become even thirty years after his death.
