I don't envy him Jgnat, I've never met a JW yet who enjoys the Service. There's just a very uncomfortable feeling about knocking on someone's door when you know they don't want you there. If he's a nervous person, I can't see this being an activity he'll enjoy.

JW hubby wants help with his door-to-door presentation
by jgnat inthis is his request, not mine!
i've warned him that jwd will give a wide range of responses from the silly, through the angry, to the serious.
he still would like to hear what you have to suggest.

What does it require to be a Saved Christian
by Undecided infirst you must have faith in something you can't prove is real.
assured expectation of something you can't see.
must talk to some god you can't see or hear.

Hi Ken,
I get very, very little time to post on here nowadays, but I just popped on and seen your thread, and wanted to share some of my thoughts with you:
"First you must have faith in something you can't prove is real. Assured expectation of something you can't see."
The New World Translation's translation of Hebrews 11:1 seems a bit vague to me, I prefer the King James Version's translation: 'Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen.'
I think this scripture is making it clear faith isn't blind belief, but IS the evidence that God is real. In my opinion, faith refers to an experience one has which is more than enough evidence for them personally, though that evidence is subjective. As the rest of Hebrews 11 goes on to show, the spontaneous result of having received that evidence is to perform works for God, but those works aren't a requirement, just a natural reaction. (In a similar way that we have certain reactions we do naturally for someone when we love them imo)
"Must talk to some God you can't see or hear."
Based on what? Praying seems to be another natural reaction to having faith, but actually Jesus never said you had to pray to be saved, it's not ever mentioned in the bible as being something you have to do to gain salvation.
"Receive some holy spirit that might just be demons if you arn't careful"
IMHO it's a pretty safe bet that if the holy spirit convinces you there's a God, and makes you a better person, it doesn't come from a demonic source! Also, I don't see any indication that the thief on the cross next to Jesus ever received any Holy Spirit and yet...
"Give 10% of your money to God through a church."
You don't even have to go to church to be saved! Let alone give 10%! Churches should not tell you that you have to give 10% of your earnings to them!
"Believe in some book that was written by men you never knew and try to understand it when religions have never agreed what it says means what it says but it was written that way so some couldn't get the true meaning, except a special few that Christ chose, because narrow is the gate and few will get in."
When has God ever said we have to believe in the inerrancy of the bible to get saved? I only remember him saying we had to trust in his son. Though some people claim scripture is inspired based on 2 Timothy 3:16, even that text doesn't say you have to believe it is to be saved! The bible doesn't say you have to have an accurate theology either!

ok so i have a bit of a dilemna, advise needed.
by free2think ini was just on facebook, and somone sent me a pm saying they knew me from school.
so anyway i sent a reply saying how are you?
etc.. she then sent me another message to say how she was doing and then finished it with 'am i remembering correctly you're are in the truth?'.

hi free2think, how are you?
This is a difficult one! If the roles were reversed, I'm sure you'd have loved someone to anti-witness to you before you were baptised! I think I'd do it, but I wouldn't criticise if you didn't.
See what others say, but if you decide to anti-Witness, for a website, since she has 2 small kids, I think you should go for: http://www.watchtowerdocuments.com -

Experiences at the meetings
by slimboyfat insince i still go to meetings i am going to post some thoughts about what i see and hear to refresh apostate memories of what glorious experiences you are missing out on these days.
yesterday we had the book study, the boredom of the study itself was only alleviated by two incidents, one sad and the other strange.... there is a sister who is bi-polar and comes infrequently who was there.
she was called to give an answer and started crying into the microphone.

Do you usually have your book study at the Kingdom hall?

Why doesnt HE just say Hi? If you were GOD would u :
by fedorE in1- keep the world the way it is, never revealing yourself.
or 2-immediately reveal yourself to mankind.. none of us has a direct line to him and im not even sure im convinced he exists like i was taught from childhood.
but damit i cannot understand for the life of me, why if he exists, he doesnt show himself in some way.... we know no one has absolute truth.our exp has shown us that just when we think we have the truth we were dead wrong.

Maybe he has said 'Hi' but you weren't listening? ;)

Who REALLY is the Faithful and Discreet Slave?
by gumby inthis thread was inspired by another thread about "two classes of the annointed".
1 page 805. as we all know when the term faithful and discreet slave is used by the witnesses it is usually always about the governing body.
in most prayers we hear at the meeting we hear the brother asking jehovah to direct the fds.. notice who the insight book says the faithful and discreet slave is,.

This doctrine doesn't make sense!
The faithful and discreet slave are all the 144,000, but the Organisation was appointed as the Faithful and discreet slave in 1919. But surely a part of the faithful and discreet is appointed each time he/she is anointed? And surely this has happened several times before 1919, such as to the Apostles and to Russell? Weren't these anointed members already the ones meant to look after Christ's 'domestics' even before 1919? Doesn't the WT teach that there has always been some members of the FDS between 33CE and now, even if just a few around at certain points? So why did they need a specific appointment in 1919?
The FDS wasn't appointed till 1919, but several members were before 1919?
Argh! It's so confusing.
Doesn't that mean there are 2 faithful and discreet slaves? The 144,000 as a complete group appointed individually as Jehovah sees fit, and also the Organisation appointed in 1919? Or did Jehovah replace the 144,000 with the Organisation in 1919? Now headed by just a few of the former FDS?
But the WT still teaches all 144,000 are the FDS? As well as the Organisation?
My head hurts... -

Did You EVER Enjoy Going To Meetings Or Out In Service?
by minimus ini can say that i don't thinki ever really looked forward to going to a 2 hour meeting or a 2 hour ride around in the "ministry.

Service could be fun if you were working with a good friend. I found meetings dull, I liked the socialising before and after meetings though.

There are two classes of annointed - why?
by cultswatter inbefore the may 1st qfr there was 4 classes of annointed.and these were: 1. the annointed from 1935 (governing body members)2. the annointed from 1935 (non governing body members)3. the replacements since 1935 (governing body members)4 the replacements since 1935 (non governing body members) then the may 1st qfr did away with 1935( and naturally the 144,000 limit) and the replacements so only two classes now exist: 1. the annointed (governing body members )2. the annointed (non governing body members) there is still something wrong with this.
the annointed of the governing body are higher up on the power flow chart than the annointed jw church goers are.
according to the bible this is wrong.the bible does not mention two heavenly callings of two separate classes.
-
Zico
I think there are 2 classes of Jehovah's witness.
Governing Body.
Everyone else.
The other anointed are just a nuisance to the GB, they add to the memorial partaker numbers, that they must want to drop. -

THE WTS: CRASH OR SLOWLY FADE AWAY?
by Seeker4 ini was just reading the thread about barbara anderson and perhaps some big news she will publish about the wts.
i agree with those who say that anything barbara has scandalous about the early history of the witnesses, ie: russel or rutherford times, will have zero impact.
that whole era is pretty much dismissed by all witnesses i know.

Members are shrinking? They're still seeing an increase at the moment, the only thing that's stopped them increasing in the past is the WT's false prophecies, and even 1975 didn't cause a huge exit! I doubt they'll make any more dates for Armageddon, so I don't see a crash or even a slow fade happening any time soon.
*Hopes I'm wrong* -
