  The New World Translation is a Mess

  the new world translation (nwt) contains thousands of serious errors.

  the following regarding john 1:1, one of the most noteworthy verses to jehovah's witness and ex-jehovah's witnesses alike, provides a case example of how and why the nwt cannot be trusted.

  there some few scholars that translate the word was "a god" or "a god" or "divine" but they are in the very low percentages.. in greek john 1:1 says: "en arche en ho logos, kai ho logos en pros ton theon, kai theos en ho logos.

  dozy, From the quotes you can see that some of these scholars were very annoyed that they had been quoted in support of the NWT's translation of John 1:1, when they actually disagreed with the NWT's translation, and they felt their quotes had been taken out of context. One wrote in to ask the Society to cease using their quote, and the Society continued. It's very dishonest of them to take quotes out of context. I find it hard to believe they didn't know they were doing this, especially if one of the scholars wrote in and told them. If you have to resort to this to support your translation it suggests something is wrong there. Considering as well, that translating the word 'God' instead of 'a god' ruins their doctrine that Jesus is not God, it seems possible to me that they would mistranslate the word purposefully.

  Some good quotes. Thanks Jim. Although the NWT is not very accurate, it is still honest enough to allow you to use it prove their doctrine wrong though. My major problem with the translation is in the way it's written, which makes it painful to read. It just destroys the beauty of Psalms and Proverbs.

  Making you nervous?

  did giving talks, parts on the meetings or even answering make you nervous and how did you handle or deal with it?.

  did you ever lie to get out of giving a assignment because of nerves?.

  Talks and answers weren't so bad for me, but I hated doing the public prayers, but I've only done a few. However, one time I did a demo at a Convention, and another time I was in the Drama. Thousands and thousands of people were watching me. I was terrified. I hardly slept for weeks before them.

  Will the WTBTS come to an end?

  cults come and go so do you think the wtbts will eventually come to an end?

  i think about this sometimes and i wonder if i will live to see it.

  the reason why i want it to end is because i don't like the administration.

  Been invited to the Memorial yet?

  I guess I better start thinking of an excuse, I don't think I'm ready to just say NO.

  Hi free2think, The only excuse good enough for them to miss the Memorial will be if you're practically dying. Usually I would say if you can come up with an excuse to miss any meeting or assembly that is a good thing, but the Memorial is the big one, missing that will be a huge deal to them. For a fader, I think it might be easier to just go to this one. At the very least, it's quite short.

  Do Elders find the inactive and faders hard to deal with?

  i've been inactive for 5 years now.i was taken off the ministry school, no hours in service, don't comment at the watchtower study and only attend 1 meeting per week.the elders try to see if i want to study with someone and i refuse.. have the elders marked me without telling me?

  do they want to bother with members like me?

  what is their next step?

  I really think this will depend on your elder body. Some won't care. Some will be looking for ways to get rid of you.

  Hypothetical situation: What would you do?

  lets just say that the jw teaching regarding armageddon, living forever were true.. and lets say that many on this forum who still attend meetings somehow survive.. you don't agree with the teachings.

  you may not even like many others who survive.

  why would you want to live with the kind of people who continually judge others actions?

  Active JW's on this forum

  having read posts over the last few months, i have come to the conclusion that there must be alot of 'active' jw's who still regularly attend meetings/field service etc.. don't you feel that by posting your many and varied topics, usually complaining/disagreeing with the wbts, that you are being hypocritical?

  when you post your information, obtained sometimes in an questionable manner, doesn't it make you question your own underhanded actions?.

  you converse with many on this forum who are disfellowshipped/dissasociated, yet if you knew who these ones were, face to face, you would not give them the time of day!

  i heard my father telling my sister that yesterday's watchtower study contained new information, ie 'new light'.

  the thing is he was excited about it, said it gave him goosebumps.

  how does that even make any sense?

  It doesn't make sense. How can you have a new truth? Does that mean there was an old truth? Surely the old truth, was just a false?
