I've never had a full meeting cancelled, but quite a few times they haven't been able to find a speaker for the public talk and we've just had the Watchtower, or the Watchtower and a fire drill.
Happens about 4 or 5 times a year actually, it's great!

Did your Kingdom hall ever cancel meetings?
by moshe inwe were building a new kh- not quick build- and we had to vacate the old building and the new kh was not finished.
the elders decided to cancel all the meeting with the exception of the tuesday night bookstudy in homes.
we had no other meetings for about 4-5 weeks.

Who went on the British Museum Trips?
by Moomin ina while ago someone had put a photo on here that was taken at the british museum.
it was of something with the date of the fall of jerusalem inprinted on it.
i can't find the thread.

Hi Moomin,
I went on one of these tours once, but it is a massive museum, so we were never going to cover it all, I guess they just keep you away from the 586 parts.
Lots of Non-JWs did tag along, but as has been mentioned, this is just a general thing.

Illnesses in The Congregations
by Country Girl indid any of you ever notice that what seemed a larger percentage of people in the congregation seem to have serious illnesses than the same slice of people in the world with the same demographics?
it seems that our congregation had a large percentage of people with mental illnesses, fibromyalgia, chronic fatigue, etc.
these diseases (although some md's classify them as psychosomatic) have been known to be aggravated or even induced by stress.

There are a lot of people in my Congregation with ME/CFS. I've never met anyone outside of the Witnesses with this problem, although I'm sure there are some.
I'm not surprised to hear that this seems to be a worldwide problem. -

As long as their is new light, there is no false religion
by JH in.
if the jw's can receive new light, why can't the catholics or any other religion also receive new light, that would bring them a little bit closer to the truth.. so, if jw's can have new light, why do they call the other religions false?
aren't they also entitled to receive new light somewhere down the line and maybe become even closer to the truth than the jw's are.. as long as a religion can constantly recieve new light, so can others, which means there is no false religion, just religions changing slowly from one belief to another either very slowly, or a little faster..

Good points JH. Considering that there are said to be 2 billion catholics in the world, surely it would make most sense for Jehovah to reveal new light to the Catholic leaders?

Once the water reached his knees, why did he not realise that this walking on water trick wasn't going to work?

i understand someone had a transfusion to cure skin cancer.. would a jw be allowed to such a transfusion?
-
Zico
The FACT that you find WHITE BLOOD CELLS in milk shows what a joke the blood doctrine is.

Wedding Day Turns Sour
by Kenneson inthe wedding at the kingdom hall was over and went off without a hitch.
the park was nearby and a nice place for wedding photos, a traditional place for these.
about 100 congregants went over to watch the couple being photographed.

I feel bad for the married couple, nobody would want a problem like that on their wedding day...
And I doubt a Witness would threaten someone in public. They'd be too concerned about bringing reproach on the Organisation. -

What do the endless debates with ThirdWitness etc prove?
by jwfacts inthere are currently long debates going on with 3w about the subtle meaning of words and how they are supposed to prove the wts has the correct doctrine.
even as a jw i always noticed that it was impossible to prove a doctrine to people in the field.
the fact that 2 christians can discuss topics endlessly without any conclusion shows me that god can not possibly be going to destroy every non jw simply because they could not be convinced of watchtower doctrine.. the bible says very little about doctrine, besides pauls discussions to show jesus is our ransomer and means for everlasting heavenly life.

It was watching scholar lose so many debates that proved to me I didn't have 'The Truth'!

The Gentiles Times Reconsidered--Again but this Time By Using the Bible
by thirdwitness inthink about this: if seven times mean only 7 years then daniel could have simply said 7 years.
why does daniel specifically use the word 'times' rather than years?
as we have already shown daniel used the word for 7 times instead of 7 years.

Thirdwitness,
You continue to argue the scripture at Matthew 24:37 as proof for the translation of parousia into presence. Isn't it pretty much irrelevant anyway? Alan has proven that Parousia can be translated into other words such as coming and arrival, and that the NWT doesn't always translate words by their root meaning when context demands it. Parousia can be translated as presence, but even if parousia is translated as presence correctly in this scripture it doesn't mean it always has to be translated as presence in other scriptures. Context shows that it doesn't always make sense to use the word presence in each scripture where parousia is used, similar to the way that not all words have to be translated at their root meaning if context means it doesn't make sense. Why do you ignore all the other arguments, and only try to debate the one scripture that you are capable of arguing?
Nothing in that scripture states that his presence would begin many centuries after his death anyway, so it's really a weak argument to try to use it as defence of the 1914 date. -

Talented Witnesses
by Zico indid anyone know any witnesses who were really talented at something and gave it up in order to 'put jehovah first'?
i find it really sad that the watchtower society can restrict such talented people from fulfilling their dreams in order to chase those empty promises of a paradise earth, in a similar way that they stop intelligent people from going on to higher education.
in my congregation there is a really skilled football (soccer) player.

That is so true Warlock, and that is one reason why it is so sad. :(
