Really as much as 70,000 a year? That sounds like a lot, and it does make the attention this 'find Maddie' is getting seem a bit strange.

So sick to death of the whole 'find Maddie' campaign - now includes Pope
by needproof ini am sure most of you are now aware of the missing british girl madeleine mccann, who was abducted from portugal a few weeks ago.
the media is making a massive thing about this, and i am just wondering why.
they say 70,000 kids go missing each year in the uk alone - but this case seems to be unique in that it is so widely reported.

Comments You Will Not Hear at the 5-27-07 WT Review (Congregation?)
by blondie inlet the congregation praise jehovah.
(psalm 26:5; 89:5-7) however, most often the hebrew scriptures apply it to the israelites.

Thanks Blondie.
'Notice how the WTS skillfully throws in a strawman statement regarding “church” and it not meaning “the actual building.”'
Yeah, 'Christendom' doesn't just use Church to apply to buildings, it also has a double meaning, including 'the body of believers in Christ' So that would not be an inaccurate interpretation. -

Notes: Friday District Convention - Follow the Anointed Who Follow Christ
by truthseeker intoday was the first day of three for this year's "follow the christ" district convention.. for the first time in as many years as i can go back, the theme of this program was jesus christ.. most of the program was ok. the talks considered jesus, his life and his works.
there was nothing about the talks that i considered insulting or controlling.. could this be it?
could the society really be going jesus-centric?.

Gosh, you have your Convention early in the year.
Are you going to be at the Saturday talks on 'Do not follow false teachers/stories' I bet you get to listen to some apostate bashing then. -

Does China Disprove Bible Prophecy?
by metatron inchina is rapidly emerging as second only to the us.
it's growth rates may allow it to pass the us.
yet, interpretations of daniel and revelation say nothing about this, at least.

I don't think the Daniel prophecy is that ambiguous, when read in it's historical context... I've read a lot of interpretations, from other fundy sites, and it often takes a lot of work to make it fit a modern King, like the WT's interpretation, my favourite part being their interpretation of 'the ships of kittim' It's comical how forced it is.
I'm sure most scholars agree the final King was Antioch IV, but the Society have to make it jump to 'modern day' to make it the last days. -

The Jeopardy story is almost certainly made up.
The Jason David BeDuhn one is partly true, there was a thread on him here recently. He's anti-Trinitarian, so he prefers the NWT's bias translation against Jesus' deity. He claims other translations are bias in their support of the Trinity, even if he's right, the Society didn't translate any of those pro-Trinitarian scriptures for scholarly reasons, they did it to support their doctrine.
I believe he does criticise the NWT in other sections. Most scholars would disagree with him as well, of course, JWs would ignore them, and claim they're wrong, but get a scholar like BeDuhn, who agrees with them, and they'll love highlighting his scholarly credentials. -

Why do people hide on this site?
by Adolfius insomething i've noticed when reading the various threads on this site, is that so many people seem to be afraid.
their scared of being disfellowshipped, scared of being shunned, scared of not being accepted by the congregation, scared that people may find out they don't believe anymore, scared if anyone was to find out they use this site.
there is advice for people on how to avoid being disfellowshipped, if they may have "said too much" about their thoughts, or how to fade without being noticed.. i don't understand this.

I don't think any of the faders could care less about what the Org thinks of them. They care about what their family thinks though.

Nvr,
From talking to JWs, most of them speculate that China will be the final King of the North. Perhaps it's the obvious choice?
One thing I find most JWs don't realise, is that the King of the North makes an alliance with the South (Anglo-US) and together they can go and ban religion. This is what's odd about them looking for a war, as the Society does not teach this. -

Predestination?
by Zico inpredestination is something ive been thinking a bit about of late, mainly due to a wt article on the subject printed in the may awake, which i read after skimming through the magazine at the weekend.
i believe the wt reasoning on the subject is that god has the ability to see into the future, but that he chooses not to look into the future, as it would negate our free will, although the recent may article was more a criticism of predestination, and although they didnt assert their own position, what struck me from reading the article, and contemplating the wt article in general is that they seem to focus on time a lot, and its this part where the wt idea of predestination seems to fall down to me.
if god created the universe and everything in it, as a jw would assert, this would also mean he would have had to have created time (which is a product of our universe) and so before god created time, it, obviously, wouldnt have existed, and without time, there cant be a past, present and future.

'So if babies get no choice, what makes a choice nessessary for anyone else'
They have the ability to choose?
'If I'm not mistaken, I think DD means the choice the baby would make once it got to the age of responsibility....and supposedly god knows that choice while the baby is in the womb.'
Thanks Gumby, that makes sense. Is that explanation right DD? -

DD:
'What if that baby wants nothing to do with God?'
Surely the baby has no concept of God? How can something with no concept of God want nothing to do with it?
