Wow, there are alot of new people on this thread. You all deserve a medal for what you've endured (Anyone think it's about time for an ex-JW award ceremony? Just kidding).
I never thought this would cause such an large response, but I guess it makes sense given the topic.
I don't say this enough, but I always appreciate how intelligent and thought provoking the discussions are on JWD. In fact, it's the first thing I check when I'm looking over the daily news. I guess we all need plenty of intelligence after being in the watchtower for so long.
Cheers!

Crazyblonde: Thanks for your response, I'm glad to know she's not the only one. Thanks to every one else, it must be painful to relate these stories. I have one more thing to say that I think is rather important, although it has nothing really to do with suicide.
At the exact moment I was writing my last post, I was home alone doing my homework and getting ready to go to class. Suddenly I heard a knock on the door, and heard the doorknob jiggling as if someone thought this was their apartment. I went to the window to see who it was and didn't recgonize them. I thought they would go away after a few minutes.
As I was walking away, I heard a key in the lock and saw the door start to open. With no time to react to this invasion, I dashed into my room and into the closet and grabbed my brother's shotgun that I had never touched before. There was no time to wonder who the hell had a key to my apartment. I quickly loaded the gun and threw my door open, ready to blow them out the window.
Want to guess who it was? It was my mom's Jehovah's Witness friend who she apparently goes out in service with. She was an elder's wife about mid 40's. Today my mom had forgotton her bible at home and she gave this woman a key to our apartment and told her to get it without any hesitation at all. But you can bet she screamed blue murder when she saw me weilding a shotgun, and since I hadn't taken a shower yet, I still had my green anti-acne face mask on.
So I called my dear mother on her cell and asked her why she didn't call me to bring her bible outside to her, instead of giving a complete stranger a key and permission to enter my apartment without any notive whatsoever. She said it didn't occur to her.
So now that I've had a few hours to calm down, I'd like to assure everyone that no one was hurt and I never, EVER resort to violence to resolve a problem. This was just an instinct reaction, and I've never done it before. How was I supposed to know this woman was a friend of my mom? Who did she think she was entering my apartment? But having said that, and looking back on it, I think the woman's reaction was quite hilarious.
So I say to the JW lurkers of the board, is this really an organization you want to belong too? And to those contemplating suicide, do you really want to kill yourself over these arrogant fools? The world is a big place with many wonderful people in it. Do yourself a favor, get out of this cult once and for all, and make a life for yourself that you can truly call your own.

Please, anyone thinking of suicide, don't do it. Not because I tell you, but because Jesus loves you. I know that seems pretty hollow coming from a complete stranger. Just consider this, the watchtower, and the elders for that matter only see you as an animal. Are those words too harsh?
Think about it. You're sitting there now, reading this message because you feel there is something wrong in your life. You're depressed. You're scared. You're mind is thinking things too terrible to contemplate. And you might be seeing for the first time that maybe your beloved watchtower, despite all you have sacrificed for it in the name of God and all the love you give to it, that it does not love you back.
Think about every magazine you ever read. Even though you never questioned the society, did you ever notice their pattern of speech? Whenever they're defending themselves or cooking up a new doctrine, they always use bible scriptures to compare themsevles to honest and noble Christians from biblical times. But when they're giving out "instructions" to the congregation such as what to wear, how to disipline your children, how to submit to your husband, how to obey the elders, how to prey, and how to have sex, they always compare you to either an animal or an inanimate object (see the back cover of the May 15, 2006 watchtower). You may not have considered this before, but just think back to the "spiritual council" you get, does it really make you feel better, or worse?
The sad truth is, while you may have friends in the congregation with varying levels of honesty, the watchtower cares absolutely nothing for you. You are nothing more than the sum of your door-to-door ministry. Don't believe me? Well, when have they ever told you that you're good enough the way you are? At what point can you stop field service, and let them take care of you? After a lifetime of faithful and loyal service to the WTS, you think they're going to pay for your retirement? Or your hospital bills? After all, you gave up your career and your education for this, don't you think you deserve some compensation?
You as an individual are expendable. Don't think for one second that they will feel true sadness or remorse over your death. And don't think your death will take away the pain. It will only add to your family's grief. They want you to kill yourself, because it will prove them right. During the past week, my mom has been obsessed with the murder of the Omish school girls in Pennsylvania. I was disgusted to see her watching it. Because she is conditioned to believe everyone outside the WTS are scum and worldy and an inch away from killing eachother, she was happy because this confirmed that she is right. Imagine being happy to see innocent school girls shot to death.
Still don't believe me? Well consider one last thing: Do they need you more than you need them?

What complete nonsense this all is. Not the research, but the very idea. To put it simply, God doesn't need "publishers." Nowhere in the bible does it say to attain your salvation you have to be a member of the WTS and "pioneer" door to door for a certain number of hours a month. Guess what? Each and every person's salvation was determined when Jesus died on the cross for our sins. No amount of works of men you do can change that. No one can give you or take away your salvation.
However, a sharply brainwashed JW will say "the bible says that faith without works is dead." That's true. But notice the operative word is FAITH. It never says that salvation without works is dead. The passage means that if you believe in God and call yourself a Christian, and yet do nothing to help your fellow man, then you are a hypocrite, and your faith is meaningless. It doesn't say you need to buy your salvation by being a JW. Yet this is the basic foundation of the WT teaching!
They do absolutely nothing to help the community. There are no Jehovah Witness soup kitchens, or homeless shelters, or hospitals. In a religion that values honesty above all, it is ironic that true honesty is discouraged. It is better to give the appearance of a good person than to actually be one. And so, no matter how faithful and "honest" the rank and file are, their faith is worthless.
My mom was watchting a witness video yesterday about how youths can deal with the pressure of growing up in the "truth." It featured absurdly photogenic teenagers that looked suspiciously like paid models, from many countries of the world, using obvious token racial profiling. It was a thinly disguised "see how universal the watchtower is" message. Anyway, whatever questions they had, the answers they were taught were from watchtower sources. The outside world was portrayed as violent, perverted, and diseased. There was no mention of getting help from outside sources, and Jesus was never mentioned. So, basically, the idea was if you have a problem with being in the org, go to no one outside the org, and "pray more."
And this is what they call Christian.

Hey everyone, this is probably nothing, but I found it disturbing enough to mention here. I was reading a discussion about natural disasters on a discussion board on the History Channel website. Here is the link:
http://boards.historychannel.com/thread.jspa?threadID=700002248&start=15
After reading many posts, I noticed the braindead doubletalk of a Jehovah's Witness. The poster's alias was Victrix, obviously NOT his real name. Scroll halfway down the page of a discussion of Bible prophecy and armageddon. Here is what Victrix said:
"And if you are really are a prophet and need to tell the world, I'm thinking maybe The History Channel message board isn't your best manner of delivery.
To answer this.... The message has not been delievered. It will begin in the middle of October and will reach a large portion of the inhabited earth. Those invovled will be millions and will be distributing hundreds of millions of them.
I will say no more."
I know this is pretty vague and unimportant, but it got me wondering if this is a person of importance in the WTS, and if so, what do they think they're planning? What do you guys think about this, are they planning something? Please write back!

by Atlantis inhttp://www.lse.co.uk/showbiznews.asp?code=au44814n&headline=princes_stripper_plea wednesday, 4th october 2006, 13:49. life style extra (uk) - prince pleaded with strippers to keep their clothes on during a recent night out.. .
the 'purple rain' singer, who is a jehovah's witness, is said to have begged the gorgeous girls to cover up while he was partying at top los angeles nightclub xenii.. .
according to reports, prince told the strippers: "it's wrong to dance like that.

Wow. Prince refuses to sing his songs, I'm crushed. This might be the first time in my entire life that I don't dislike the consequences of someone being a witness
You think next they'll get Mel Gibson to stop making movies and Britney Spears to stop having children and Tom Cruise from doing anything at all?
The watchtower should be proud of their pint-sized mascott. Preaching the good news of the kingdom message in a truly Godly sanctuary.

Compound Complex: Welcome to the board and thank you for your comments! I think as people, there are certain needs we have to fulfill on a primal level. Not to say that we should be slaves to our desires, but just to accept what we desire as natural and not try to change it, as long as there's nothing wrong with it, such as the man you mentioned with his nieces.
My mom mentioned this once or twice, that this is a form of "self abuse." I only asked her one question, since I refused to discuss the subject with her. I asked "what if you have a dream about a romantic encounter with a person that you're attracted to?"
She said "only if I was married to him." I said "that's absurd, you can't control your dreams. Who you're attracted to is not always the person you're married to."
She said, "then stop dreaming."
Did I get this right? Not only does the watchtower want to control the sex lives of their members, they literally want to control their dreams!!
Mike: I think all of this is about control. This is the one thing the watchtower can't spy on you for (unless some elder is especially perverted to peek in your bedroom window). Masterbation is not really the issue here. This issue represents a larger problem to the WTS. Their afraid if the rank and file can regulate their own sex lives like normal people, whether masterbating or not, then they will start to become independent and rebelious in other, more important matters. It probably sounds absurd, but a revolution has got to start somewhere. What do you think?

Couple's faith tested
by Dogpatch ingreat yarmouth mercury, uk - 19 hours ago.
members of the bradwell congregation - including their only child, a daughter - are now forbidden from speaking to david and brenda gibbons since they were forced to.
they were thrown out by a judicial committee at great yarmouth kingdom hall in july, after writing a letter containing personal criticism to another member of the congregation.. .

Mike: You're right on the nose. The sad thing is that they find nothing wrong with this. I don't know who I feel more pity for. The witness who honestly believes that shunning is a loving and biblical practice, or the witness who sees the truth and is forced to do it anyway.
Will they ever learn that the real world doesn't work this way?
