The most frightening haircut of my life ...
by dedalus inthis morning i went for a haircut, and since my usual stylist (caroline, quick with the clippers and a joke, does magic with my floppy mop of hair), was out, i told the receptionist i'd settle for whoever was available.
after a moment i was handed over to "winnie," whom i recognized as a witness from a neighboring congregation -- alas, not before she'd roughly dunked my head in the sink.
i was pretty sure she recognized me, too.. "so how have you been, dedalus," she said.. "um, just fine, and you?

I'm going to be a Witness again!
by dedalus inrecently i wandered over to derrick's site, h20, just to check things out.
while casually looking around, i came across this, a description of one of the forums over there.
i've bolded the part that caught my eye:jehovah's witnesses and bible prophesy.

Witnesses Shouting in the City Streets ...
by dedalus in... except it quickly developed that they weren't witnesses at all.. weekends i sometimes work at a television station in downtown hartford, ct. depressed urban area, starbucks and subways and mcdonalds scattered like dirty coins beneath towering insurance buildings.
anyway, on my breakfast break i left the station, walked down to the convention center, and across the street from wendy's i saw two young men who, at a glance, strongly resembled witnesses or mormons -- they were wearing the cookie-cutter jc penney poly-synthetic-discount-clearance suits, and held large leather bibles in their hands.
one had a dark, cropped, curly beard.

What was the drama about this year?
by dedalus ini'm asking because my jw dad is in it.
all i know is that he's playing a bible character, but i'm wondering what bible scenario is being enacted.
in a gesture of support and mutual tolerance, i was planning to go see him perform, cheer him on, that sort of thing.

Organization's Calender Pic for July/August
by dedalus inyesterday i noticed, at the home of my leaving-but-not-quite-left parents-in-law, the photo montage for july/august on the organization's calender.
on the top of the page is a photograph of a bunch of jw children at a convention in 1941, holding up a copies of the book children, which had been distributed just to them.. here are two quotes from that book, some of which was written in a hokey first person dub-voice:.
should men and women, both of whom are jonadabs or 'other sheep' of the lord, now marry before armageddon and bring forth children?

My Memorial Experience
by dedalus ini forgot all about the memorial.
(fortunately, my wife and i did not accidentally partake of any saltines or grape juice.).
so, on this year's nisen 14, i played some racquetball in the late afternoon with one of my brothers, and in the evening i had a wonderful dinner with my wife and daughter.

Classic Excuses: "We don't have the whole ...
by dedalus inpatio34's post got me thinking ... sooner or later as witnesses, we all face[d] a situation in which we became aware of some kind of judicial corruption -- someone reproved who shouldn't have been, someone harassed by elders, or worse, instances of violence and abuse that have been deliberately ignored and concealed.. my question for this thread is, what's the lamest excuse you've ever heard (or given) to justify the injustice in your hall?
the one that occurred to me was, "we don't have the whole story," as if there could possibly be a good reason for ruining an innocent's life.
my future father-in-law was deleted as an elder, for example, after accepting charity money raised for his deaf, blind, and mentally handicapped son.

A BIG HUGE THANK YOU TO REM AND MRS. REM!!!!!!
by dedalus inyou guys know why.
our daughter said "thank you" in her own special way -- jumping in her mother's stomach as if the messiah had just walked into the room.
of course, what you guys did was way cooler than the arrival of some messiah.
