What Bible do you use?

in my new search for truth, i'm back to my old routine of getting my 7+ different bibles out and comparing them all.

which one have you chosen, if at all, and why?

I use a whole pile of them, for comparison.

Generally I use the New World Translation, simply because it's built into the WT library and thus easily accessible.

But I also use www.biblegateway.com a LOT.

2008;END OF WORLD?

some say this year will be end of world.. what do you think?.

Do you mean the end of the human species, the end of the planet Earth, the end of the Milky Way galaxy, or the end of the entire known universe?

The first one is pretty unlikely. Sure we could have a nuclear holocaust, but there would be plenty of survivors. Not to mention the people on the space stations, they'd be able to hold out at least until 2009. So the species wouldn't be totally extint THIS year.

The second is extremely unlikely. I mean unless the sun instantly goes supernova for no currently known reason, I can't think of any other things that could destroy the planet any time soon.

The third is nigh impossible, it would take a lot longer than a year for ANYTHING to get from one side of the galaxy to the next, let alone something that also destroys everything in its path..

And the last is just absurd. I can't even conceive of something that would 'destroy' the universe... it would still exist in some form or another, so it wouldn't be the end.

this is a collection of confidential letters from the watchtower society that were sent to the bodies of elders in the years 1981 through 2006. these are the letters that you were never meant to see or read.. there's all sorts of information in them ranging from the boring and mundian to instructions about how to handle child molesters.. many thanks to darth frosty and others (who i'm not sure can be named) who worked very hard and took risks to collect and scan the information.

When it damages your health.

IE: Eating disorders, stress, high blood pressure, hurting yourself, neglecting your health etc.

i have never seen this guy stumped on a bible topic or point before, but history was made today!!!

he and a soon-to-be elder were doing a shepherding call on my wife and i because we've missed weeks worth of meetings and had no service time for dec. he went through the usual lectures about how we're cutting off jehovah by missing meetings (because we all know god won't lift a finger for those who don't go to meetings, right?

) he gave some good illustrations- the guy really is a good teacher, it's just what he's teaching that's questionable.

I think there's a reason that the Kingdom Interlinear isn't included in the WT library.

Apparently this is a tool that they don't want to GIVE away.

Our literature guy says that you are not allowed to order one unless you are considered to be 'exemplary'. Is this true?

Questioning the 144K

Well, the way I heard it (from the JWs) was that the resurrected would be SEXLESS creatures. They also said that those who survived Armageddon would be the only ones to be able to produce children.
So according to that sort of logic....if the 144,000 are all resurrected then it could include the species formally known as the female. Right?

Well, the JWs will simply start making things up whenever they want. The Bible doesn't say that angels are sexless. It says that they don't have marriage, marriage is a legal union, but NOWHERE does it say that they are sexless.

In fact it indicates that they have a sex drive, in the story of the Nephiliim. And Zechariah indicates that there were female angels:

5:9)9 Then I raised my eyes and saw, and here there were two women coming forth, and wind was in their wings. And they had wings like the wings of the stork. And they gradually raised the e´phah up between the earth and the heavens.

It doesn't call them angels.... but they sure do fit the taxonomic description!

If the JWs wish to claim that angels are genderless, then the burden of proof is on THEM to do so. Because there are a LOT of refferences to male angels. If they're genderless, they sure do a good job of hiding it.

And another thing, our gender is a HUGE part of us. It shapes our entire being, If you lose your gender when you go to heaven, then you lose a pretty big part of your personality along with it.

Finally, one must wonder why god doesn't allow women to be preists or kings? If it's simply because they lack a penis, then being a sexless angel wouldn't help matters much. But if it's because of some mental weakness in females that doesn't exist in males, then unless god changes their personality as well, they STILL wouldn't qualify. They'd still behave like inferior-unfit-to-be-priest women.

(Disclaimer: No offence to any women at all. Personally I think Yahweh is an evil, bigoted, sexist, moron, so my interpretations of what he thinks does not in any way reflect my personal views about you ladies.)

As far as I know, there is nothing in the entire book of Revelation that indicates that women would be included.

ON the contrary, they are reffered to as kings and priests. Women were not allowed to be priests under Jewish OR Christian rules, and 'kings' are male by definition.
Plus, the entire Bible indicates that men are superior, so why would it be surprising that women can't be included in the 144K?

You can say 'It's just symbolic' but when you ignore blatantly obvious stuff like that, then you can just toss the whole stinking book and make up whatever you want.
