Anyways, I'm a little bit interested. But, as I said I was raised a Jehovahs Witness so I've heard most arguments for gods existence a thousand times before, plus I'd rather if this thread stayed on topic. Feel free to start a new thread about it though.

Ditch the animals and open a nursery. It would probably have been easier to take care of millions of mutant toddlers than millions of full-grown wild animals. But the point is valid, children would have been a lot of work, for decades after the flood.

But I don't think they should be considered hopelessly evil just because their parents were, there are dozens of examples in the Bible of children who became extremely good, despite their extremely bad parents. (Take king Josia for example. Or King Saul's son... can't remember his name though.) So unless god can read the heart of a 1 year old and know that it will be evil for it's entire life. (Which would defeat the theory of free will. And therefore make your whole life practically meaningless.) Then killing babies is still killing babies no matter who does it. (You've probably realized by now that this is an issue that used to really bother me when I was a believer.)

And I still can't imagine why god wouldn't have simply snapped his (figurative) fingers and killed them instantly. According to our imperfect/evil human laws, in America a person is given a lethal injection as a death sentence... They even rub alcohol on their arm first!

tada there are now two of you.. i'm not talking like a twin, or clone... i mean an double, you and the other you both have the exact same memories, skills, likes, dislikes, goals and personality.. would you get along?

I'm not talking like a twin, or clone... I mean an double, You and the other you both have the EXACT same memories, skills, likes, dislikes, goals and personality.

Would you get along? Would you hate each other? Would you wish it never happened?

(What if you're married, how would you feel about another you being in love with your mate? Remember you're both equally the same person, so neither of you would have any more right to anything than the other. Neither one of you is the 'imposter'.)

Personally I'd think it was awesome, the first thing I'd do is challenge him to a video game match! (Which would be the ultimate game, playing with someone who is EXACTLY as good as me.)

We'd do everything together, and we wouldn't disagree over what we want to do because we would both want the same thing. We could double our income, and not fight over what to do with the finances.

What about you guys? I know some people who would feel like they lost their individuality.

Watchtower & Awake mags need leaked to the net

just wondering if anybody out there still get the mags and is able to leak them to the internet.

just the other day i realized that i haven't looked at a new watchtower or awake in months.

i think it's pretty funny that on this board elders letters and things from hq get leaked, but the literature doesn't seem to make its way around.

Believe me, if I weren't on dial-up I'd do it, but at 41 Kbps it'd take me about 3 minutes per page just for the upload... (That's 96 minutes for a 32 page mag.)

But if worse comes to worse and I'm the only one who's willing, I'll do it.

Is marriage an outdated institution

60% of all marriages fail.

there is no perfect formula that works for everyone, to keep a marriage together and strong.

with these in mind, you have to wonder sometimes, if marriage is even worth it.

Neadless to say I have a very low opinion of monogamy.

If you want to spend your whole life with somebody then, by all means, do so. But what possible use would there be for a legal paper that would only serve to make things more difficult later on if either of you changed your mind?

How in the world can you reaaly be an Athiest? The WTBS turn you off THAT much? Or did science convince you that Evolution is a fact?

Acctualy the WTBTS has pretty much nothing to do with my atheism... I had a relatively good JW experience compared to most of the other people on this board. And although I am pretty sure of evolution, it is not what made me an atheist. I'm an atheist because I don't believe in god. I think that a claim so great as an omnipotent entity should be proven instead of accepted as the default.

I cannot prove that god does not exist. But I'm pretty sure you can't prove fairies exist.

I accept the fact that there could theoretically be an extremely superior creature out there somewhere, but I have so little evidence to support that theory that it would be foolish of me to base my life on that belief.

God was violent in the 'Old Testament', for the same reason His Son will be at Armageddon ('New Testament')- to eliminate corruption.He did it with His own people Israel- after BEGGING them to turn from their evil ways- that he has NO JOY in putting a wicked person to death. His Son won't either- but it will HAVE to be done, or man will murder, mangle, rape & destroy till the "Sun Goes Out!"

I can understand that. I have no problem with god killing wicked people. But what about the people that weren't wicked that died in the flood for example? Like the children... are you telling me that every single child, even the ones under age 10 was evil enough to die? (And the animals too I suppose, but I frankly don't care much about them.)

And, if they must die, then why be so violent about it? Surely an all powerfull god could find a much nicer way to kill people than with a flood. That would be a slow and terrifying death. (As mothers carried their little children up a steep mountain, trying to climb faster than the rising water, only to reach the top exhausted and realize that the water is still rising, the mother tries to swim, carrying her dying toddler through the water, only to drown after a long battle for their lives.)

If I had the power, and I HAD to kill people, it would be a quick and painless death. (Plus I'm sure Noah wouldn't have minded being saved the trouble of building an ark.)

Wow that's a lot to respond to...

The reason I'm asking you this is to determine if I CAN answer your doubt; I can from the Bible- but that will be meaningless to you if you don't believe it's true!

I think I understand, but, even though I'm an atheist, when I get into a biblical discussion with theists I generally proceed under the premise that the bible is true. (A sort of beat them at their own game kind of thing.) In other words, although I don't believe the bible, I'll set that aside in this situation for the sake of the discussion.

Have you studied the Bible? Not just what it says- but it's background?

Well sort of, I was a dedicated Jehovahs Witness for 15 years, and I spent three days a week learning about what the Bible says, including it's background. Granted, they have some pretty strange ideas about it, but I do understand what your getting at.

The Bible is backed up by Science (the exceptions being the Theory of Evolution and Church Teachings, like the 6 24-hour Creative Days Dogma), and by the very principles weaved thruout all the books. The Book of Mormon is a counterfeit of the Bible- and Mormons take its word over the Bible; they HAVE to since it is contradicted so much by it! If the Bible WERE just a fairytale, it's people would have never existed, it's words would not inspire just about all who read it, and since it was written LONG before the Dark Ages- science would contradict almost everything it said, as it does with all the other 'sacred' writings from those ancient times! (This is the best I can paraphrase...)

I've never read the book of mormon but it sounds like you did so I'll take your word for it.___ "If the Bible WERE just a fairytale, it's people would have never existed," Sorry I just couldn't let that go... but if I were to sit down and write a story about president Bush having a face to face discussion with god, in which god punished Bush for some sins with hurricane Katrina... that story would contain characters that existed. And in the future somebody could confirm that president Bush existed and that hurricane katrina took place, but the story would still be false.

(I never wanted to believe they were! The facts showed me otherwise, then I started appreciating its words. I could be wrong- altho I can't see ANY reason to believe that- and I'm ALWAYS looking!)

I hope you really mean that... if so I would assume that you will not ignore me simply because I don't already think all your beliefs are correct. I know what it's like to completely change your beliefs, I did just under two years ago, (except I went from believing the bible to not believing it.) There is a big barrier between theists and atheists, when I was a Witness I though all atheists were arrogant idiots for not seeing the obvious, but now that I'm an atheist I feel pretty much the same way about theists... and since I live in a world where the majority of the population believe in god, I am attempting to see things both ways when it comes up. First of all, this is a discussion board, you should feel free to respond to a topic without a personal invitation... but in case you forgot I already DID ask you personally. And you said:

we know the bible shows jesus praying to his father, but who is our father?.

The witnesses ignore pretty much this entire prayer...

"YOU must pray, then, this way: "Our Father in the heavens, let your name be sanctified. 10 Let your kingdom come. Let your will take place, as in heaven, also upon earth. 11 Give us today our bread for this day; 12 and forgive us our debts, as we also have forgiven our debtors. 13 And do not bring us into temptation, but deliver us from the wicked one."

The witnesses are required to use gods name, but Jesus didn't say 'Jehovah' in there at all! He said 'father'.

The Dubs are required to say 'in Jesus name' or 'through your son Jesus we pray'. But Jesus didn't say that was required... in the MODEL PRAYER he didn't say that.

They are required to say 'amen' but once again, Jesus did not say 'amen' when he was finished he was finished... Once again, the MODEL PRAYER did not include an 'amen'.

So if Jesus said: "You must pray, then, this way" Why do they completely ignore it?
