  The Bible and Gambling.

  it is generally accepted that gambling is not a christian thing.

  so much so, that jws are not supposed to play the lottery, make bets or wagers, play poker, even playing poker with fake money is frowned on!.

  It is generally accepted that gambling is NOT a christian thing. So much so, that JWs are not supposed to play the lottery, make bets or wagers, play Poker, even playing poker with fake money is frowned on!

  Why?

  Take bets/wagers for example.

  Samson did it! (Judges 14:12-13) Then Samson said to them: "Let me, please, propound a riddle to YOU. If YOU will without fail tell it to me during the seven days of the banquet and YOU do solve it, I shall in that case have to give YOU thirty undergarments and thirty outfits of clothing. 13 But if YOU are unable to tell it to me, YOU yourselves also must give me thirty undergarments and thirty outfits of clothing." At this they said to him: "Do propound your riddle, and let us hear it."

  What is that, besides a wager?

  How about casting lots?

  This takes place all through the bible, as a way of choosing a course of action, or in order to win stuff. The practise is never condemned, and can presumably still be used today.

  The fact that the casting of lots correctly pointed to Jonah, indicates that God had a hand in it, and thus, approved of the action. (Off topic, is this so much different from tarot cards or palm reading?)

  Then there's the fact that the land was distibuted to the isrealites by casting lots:(Numbers 26:52-56) After that Jehovah spoke to Moses, saying: ...56 By the determination of the lot one’s inheritance should be apportioned between the many and the few.”

  So there are at least three scriptures that are pro-gambling. What scriptures are anti-gambling?

  It's not the parts that I don't understand that I have issues with.

  It's the parts that I DO understand. Yes I understand, and that's the problem.

  LtCmd.Lore

  My name, LtCmd.Lore is due to my love of Star Trek.

  I was going to just go with 'Lore'... (Lore is an evil but really cool android.) But I figured the name 'Lore' was too generic and was probably already taken elsewhere on the internet. I don't wish to be confused with other people, so I made my name longer and went with LtCmd.Lore so there was no chance of me taking someone elses screenname.

  Later I realized I misspelled the abbreviation for Commander, which SHOULD be 'Cdr'. But it was too late.

  FYI, I prefer to be called 'Lore' instead of 'LtCmd' as a lot of people seem to do.

  I am not in anyway affiliated with the military, or starfleet. The title is purely fictional.

  The avatar is modeled after a character named 'Seed' in a videogame called 'Rogue galaxy'. He was a brilliant, genetically engineered superhuman. With excellent control of his emotions.... He was my favorite character in the game.

  I like the mask and the character, so I designed his mask in 3D and use it for stuff. I'm just pretending that's what I look like until I can reveal my REAL picture. )

  Astro-travel

  astro-travel or out of body experience....your spirit/soul leaves your physical body to visit the spiritual world or astro-plane .

  there is no hard proof and information is based on personal experiences.

  i'm not too clued up on this, but one friend of mine says you meet a guide ( he/she has to earn your trust???

  The most interesting experience in this general area that I've had is where I experinced being at ceiling height, looking down at my own body during a traumatic experience. I've interpreted this to be a psychological defense against being damaged too greatly, a way of distancing myself from the actual event. Cool safety net.

  You're my hero tonight...

  It's REALLY refreshing to see someone who had an experience like this and was still able to look at it objectively instead of throwing rational thought out the window and insisting that you had a "spiritual awakening" or "spirit barf" or something. There HAVE been studies done on these out-of-body experiences. They all turned up negative. There's one really simple, and telling, test. They stick a piece of paper, with a note on it, on top of a cabinet and when the patient 'leaves the body' they SHOULD be able to read the note that they didn't see earlier. They can't. They can never see anything while they are floating above the room that they hadn't already observed. But scientists can recreate the feeling...   Do you sometimes feel really disconected from people?

  i thought i had been going really well in my life until my mothers recent attempt at shunning me.

  now im feeling like i don't want to connect with anyone.

  i'm kind of disconnecting myself from my friends even, withdrawing.
