I too use to know tons when I was a pioneer. My mom was a huge party thrower and we use to get together with friends all the time and play Bible Trival Pursuit. Yes, we were the Flanders, I am the first to admit it. What is funny is my mother still has no clue who the Flanders are, because will call her Sis. Flander from time to time. Hy-dally Ho there neighbor.

DF'ing... Worth avoiding, or...?
by Gregor inevery time i log on i read posts from those who are desperately trying to avoid disfellowshipping.
playing cat & mouse with elders and jcs, etc.
i don't want to judge people whose situations i don't know anything about.

Also, many of us here abided by the whole DF/DA thing at one time. We know how people treat others. Most likely none of use were mean, but we know what JWs think and how the would actually treat someone who is DF/DA. I think most people would like to avoid conflict if possible. So most people who try to avoid it are doing it for numerous reasons.

Calm down there cowboy. No one is dis'n your buddy. I will pose my question a different way. If Frannie were the type of person who got her feelings hurt easily, wouldn't she have probably left a long time ago?

You mean to tell me, normal people don't get married at 17 or 18?
by free2beme inas a witness, most if not all of my friends were married by 18, with many woman married by 17. it was so normal, that when i left the religion and met all these people married in their 20's and later, that it seemed like they were starting late.
i actually was a late person in getting married, i was 23. i remember being one of the few people my age in the congregation, not married yet.
i actually remember thinking, where am i going to find someone to marry, that is not yet taken.

Yes, it generally because you cannot have sex outside of marriage. Also, if you date too much, you get in trouble. There was a guy I grew up with who was known to befriend the ladies in the hall and he got a rep. He was talked to, they quoted the YPA - dating with a view to marriage. So he started dating this headcase and she knew his background and when he wanted to break up with her she said that she was going to go to the elders and tell them he mislead her and he was going to get in trouble. Guess what, they got married. I know being in his inner circle that he did not want to marry her. Yes, they are still married, but you would never know it, they lead very different lives. He took a job that he works night shifts so he does not have to see her on a regular basis. They go to meetings together and THAT IS IT. He is miserable and I would suspect she is, but they won't get a divorce because of the religion and no one in his family has ever been divorced, because of the religion, he does not want to be the first. But she is a loon! I don't know how he stays married to her.

A question on " 1975 "
by The ini was reading some of the first " topics " on this db and i noticed that a few former elders and publishers .
were stumbled by this date.... i was born after 1975 and i'd really appreciate any comments from brothers and sisters who were around .
what i've noticed from personal experience is that many brothers and sisters feel that only " a few " were stumbeled .

The Society hinted at it in the materials so as to allow people to read and run with it. My belief is that they really thought it was going to happen. They are always saying something like that .... think about the "peace and security" statement. They kept claiming that would cause the end to come right away. That statement was made 20 years ago and here we are still around. But people say ... a day to god is a thousand years to man. So in other words maybe it is not 1975 but a thousand years from 1975? You can spin the tale as much as you want, it is still the same. No one knows any date as it relates to when and or if the end will come whether it is by god's hand or man's.

Sleeping at assemblies and conventions
by free2beme inmy in-laws still attend meetings and defend the faith to the best of their limited ability.
i saw limited, as their understanding of the faith ended somewhere around the 1980's and when you bring up new understanding, they think it might be apostate and do not listen.
there not alone, trust me, several witnesses do not grasp the changes.

Hey speaking of ass. or mtgs. Did you guys ever time the bros. when they were giving their prayers. We had a bro my old hall who was for a short time the PO and he was the twin of Jesse Jackson. So when he would say the prayer he sounded like Dr. Seuss, but his prayers were so long. So the guys I grew up with would time him. The longest prayer to date was his and it was 14 minutes. COME ON! Talking about falling asleep. But can you imagine how much trouble you would get in for sitting down and falling asleep during a prayer. Yikes!

Gumby, you are aging yourself but I must say that was DARN funny! Gumby don't get this wrong I am not saying by any means you are my grandfather's age, because that is not possible, but my grandfather use to say the same thing ... "that assembly food gave me the sh*ts." and then he would make jokes the rest of the assembly to the point that we were all laughing so hard we were crying. However, my mother (his daughter) did not find it so funny.
