Freedom by the USA Government?
by frankiespeakin inlets see they slaughtered the indians that live on this land, wiped out the buffalo which starved many to death, put them on reservations, reduced many of them to poverty.. and now the us government has the biggest military in the world that cost its tax payers plenty and no government health care.
kind of makes you wonder if freedom is just a 4 letter word with dom added on.. not only that but they have spent trillions$$ on weapons of mass destruction, they have the biggest stock pile of nuclear weapons that can kill all life on earth several times over.
and if i refuse to pay my taxes because i don't like the government is wasting so much money on the military, i will get thrown in prision, and if they want to they can use the patriot act to torture me, refuse me a fair trial.

I agree, to an extent. OK, let's say that you come down to 2 candidates you can vote for. It happens. But if you are an informed "voter" you can try to vote in the on that most agrees with your own feelings. Admit it, no 2 people are going to agree 100%. That is a fact of life. You ever been married or been in a serious relationaship? Nuff said.
My point is, get well informed and first of all make a stand by voting. Second of all, don't sit back and say "my feelings don't count" if you don't make it known. Like I stated earlier, contact your Congressman. How in the heck are they to know the feelings of the general public, if the general public doesn't voice it?
Let me use an analagy. You are married. Your spouse has his/her thoughts. You sit back and say nothing and wonder why your are in divorce court. Could it be that you did not state fully your feelings? Is it because you sat back and let the spouse run all over you without you asserting your feelings? If you do not take responsibility in that relationship, you cannot expect a different outcome.

I am at the end of my rope. I lost my favorite "bubble-headed" goldfish. I don't know what to do. I have one goldfish left. I have talked to the people at the local Petsmart that I bought them at, yet they don't seem to help. They told me to use tap water to fill the tank. I did that, although in past experience that has not worked. I am trying to go by the "experts."
Just 2 days ago I changed the water, per their advice. The water turned into Los Angeles smog. I tried to enhance the filter system (which I felt was not adequite (sp)) and of course the water became so polluted that you could see the contaminated water just ooze filth. I am now emptying the tank. I plan on taking out all vestiges of "comfort" I thought they would want, ie. plants and gravel. I saw in the store that this is the case in every tank.
They told me that goldfish were the filthiest fish you can own. OK, I can accept that but when it comes to fancy goldfish that cost $15.00 a piece you want to do something to save them, not to mention you get a sense of caring personally ( at least as much as you can to a fish.) I have a cat and the same rules seem to apply.
I am tired of sucking up dirty fishwater, I am OCD with a germ aversion. I need to save this poor soul. Does anyone have suggestions?

Then you risk having your cute ass in jail. We can't avoid some laws but we can try to make a difference. If we silently gripe about a law and have nothing to do with trying to change it...we are just as wrong as the one's trying to make a difference. Just because they have political ties does not mean that they are stupid. Because of lack of input by the voters they can only go by their gut, no matter if it benefits the average person or not. How in the h*** are they to know if no one let's them know?

Write your Congreesman with your concerns. One of the things I told my JW (devout I might add) mom is that this can work, if you work it. LOL Sorry using a bit of AA here. I stressed that she did not have to be a voter, just a citizen. I stated to her that even as a citizen, we all have a voice, but most don't use it. She agreed.
We as a whole do not think we can make a difference, but we can if we speak up. Think about it; if we say nothing our feelings are not taken into consideration. If we voice it, it may get noticed. Too many feel that one voice (writing our Congressman) will not work. What is misunderstood is that if enough of us voice our opinion instead of being "armchair quarterbacks" something can/will happen with the voice of the people.
BTW frankie, the buffalo are not wiped out. I can attest to that in my experience in FS. There is a buffalo ranch right here in Arizona. Just ONE example I am aware of. Like cockroaches, (not to equate this with an undesirable situation) if there is one there are 100 behind it. I believe there are many more ranches. Just a thought.

Can someone help?
by bethel anorexic inthis is my first post.. i was wondering if someone here can help me out.. i stopped attending meetings a while ago and i'm not comfortable with the idea of having the congregation elders in possession of my publisher card and other records.
would someone be willing to help me retrieve my records so i can just disappear completely from the jw-world?
perhaps someone here who is a current elder or an ex-elder?

I understand your situation. However, joining and living the life of a JW makes everything in your life up for debate. The arguement could be that you have joined and agreed to every rule that they set out. Most of us DO NOT know what the rules are that we are agreeing to.
Therefore comes in the problem of annonimity (sp) when you decide to leave. Even if you are able to get your records does not mean that they have not made copies before it is sent to you. My experience as a nurse tells me that legally records can be kept for at least 3 years (longer if they desire.)
Once a person adheres to a way of life, whether fully informed or not, they are bound to "their" rules." Being a "religious organization" makes it even more sticky.
I empathise and hope you can get what you want, but I don't think it will happen.

" please read on.. i started a thread entitled "free knocking preview on thursday in pittsburgh, pa." i thought a few people at least, if not a lot, might respond with thoughts about how to approach this subject if one to were to actually go to this "free" viewing and discussion.. i am specifically alerting others that it is a free showing of the program and that the director is going to sit down and discuss this program (free i might add) with anyone that wants to discuss it.. i am not from the pittsburg area and was hoping someone might go to the viewing and state "our" views on the knocking program.
i have seen many threads dealing with the program and thought someone might be interested in anti-witnessing.
