what would you change if you could?

as a hypothetical thought exercise, if say you had absolute power and carte blanche to change anything you wanted in the org and its teachings and policies, and no one at brooklyn would challenge your changes, what would you immediately change?

I would change the one teaching that I believe is the seed for all the other "bad" things that have happend. That the faithful and discrete slave are a channel to God that stands between man and Jesus.

Jesus made it very clear that HE was the way the truth and the life - he did not include any other person or organization, not his apostles, not his future church, NOTHING or NOONE was included in his statement.

I believe that if individuals went directly to Jesus for their guidance as they are commanded to in the New Testament, and not men who try to circumvent his power and authority, then most of the other man-made rules that have caused so much pain would dissolve.

My talk today with my JW neighbor

i had a very good conversation with my jw friend today.

it arose out of my invitation to our yearly friendship service at church this sunday.

she was so nice, but said it might prove difficult, since jws made a specific commitment to jehovah, and the doctrine of our church was trinitarian and she would feel very uncomfortable.. then she asked me who i thought god was.

Wow bebu - that is terrific! Great job - you shared the most important piece of information - that God loves her and that you could tell she loved him. Regardless of whether she accepts anything else you told her, that one point will stick with her and help her.

I dont' have anything against the quick builds - but why aren't JW's willing to dontate some of their time to building houses for habitat for humanity? I understand the need for Kingdom Halls to replace the older ones - but what about the need of the poor?

When Jesus walked the earth he did two things - he preached a message of hope, and he took care of people. He fed them, healed them, etc. The JW's are proud that they preach a message of hope - but they have completely dropped the ball on the second part of Jesus' "ministry". I find that many christian churches are preaching a message of hope to their community while at the same time performing charitable activities.

I told my mother about a goal I had for a certain charity - she didn't think that was so important, her response to me was "you can't save them all". So I just answered her "no, but I might make the difference to one and that's enough". There was a time when I was completely destitute, if it had not been for christian charities my son would not have had food to eat or a coat to wear. I'm glad someone people out there were willing to share to make a difference to "just one" - because it definately made the difference.

Hey Scooby. Very good question - I struggled with the same indecision a few years back. I think talesin is correct in that this place is good for exploring ideas and for research. But as with anything in life, too much is not good for you. This forum is a tool - but don't forget about the other tools that are available to help you make a decision. I found that I made more progress when I stopped trying to decide of the JW's were wrong or right and just started to read the bible.

Also - it's important that you just let it ALL go sometimes and enjoy your life. Get away from it for a few days - go golfing, or to a movie, out with friends, etc. God gave us life with the intention that we LIVE it and ENJOY it - Jesus said he came so that they might have life and have it IN ABUNDANCE. If you're not feeling life in abundance then the pressure that is holding you back is not from God. So pray to him and ask him to reveal to you where that pressure is coming from.

Scooby - I dont' personally believe that you must be a JW to be saved - I also don't believe that you can't be saved if you are a JW - I believe that Jesus meant exactly what he said - noone comes to the father except through me. People can accept Jesus as their savior and mediator regardless of what religious denomination they are in. Religious denominations are man made - and the problem with many of them is that they can hold a person to a rigid set of rules that sucks life out of them rather than filling them with abundant life. Some denominations are fairly harmless, others can cause a lot of harm. But religious denomination will not save you. I know a lot of Catholics, Mormons, and JW's will argue that issue - but until they can prove it using the bible I stand by what I have read from God's word.

So Scooby - take your time, don't let anyone push you in or out of the organization - it is your own choice. Just remember that God is separate from religion - you can toss your religion without tossing God.

I found God Today (not fluff)

perhaps the oddest thing i've looked forward to doing for years is finding and activating my god spot in my brain.

my wish finally came true today.

if anyone reading this isn't aware of what a "god spot" is i would say in a nutshell that it is neurological response to magnetically stimulating the brain where many people feel "god like" experiences and describe either unusual illusions or intense religious feelings.

This might have been true back in the 60's and a llittle while in the 70's, but in this decade and for at least 20 years that I know

Remember, the "men in charge" are all old geezers - it'll be about 10-15 more years before a beard is acceptable (ie: before they die off and newer replacements take over). I remember when a mustache was not acceptable - but it appears to be ok now.

It all goes back to their same old method - appearances are more important that content.

After they've been told in no uncertain terms that I USED TO BE A JW they will ask. "So you guys don't celebrate holidays?"

I get that sometimes too. I just smile and tell them "Sure I do, I'm now cult free"

ever wonder why you are asked for information when you make a purchase?

i've been asked for all kinds of things, like my name, phone number, postal code, etc.

once i made a cash purchase at radio shack.

I'm with caligirl - I'll give them my zip but nothing else.

My State has passed some pretty strict confidentiality laws governing identifying information such as driver's licenses, dob's, and ssn's. If they get push I just tell them where I work and then tell them about the recent legislature passed - that usually shuts them up.

All except for the darn nickel paper! But that's another story.

What Is The Foundation Of Faith Belonging To a Jehovah's Witness?

jw's are told that they have a faith unlike any other.

what is the faith that the typical witness has??

Interesting question min.....I used to wonder the same thing when I was a very active JW. I wondered why other non-dub Christian friends of mine seemed to have this special relationship with God that I didn't. I wondered how they could find such peace and strength in their "faith" when I just KNEW they were part of Satan's world - I was a JW and knew the "truth", I was supposed to have this strong "faith" but it was not a strength to me at all - it was only words.

It was not until years after I was DF'd that I found real faith. If someone asked me now what the foundation of my faith is I could give them an explanation at length.

As a JW I had a pat answer - one that I was trained to give, only problem is I didn't really FEEL it.
