  How do JW's explain John 2:18-21

  john 2:18-21 - then the jews demanded of him, "what miraculous sign can you show us to prove your authority to do all this?

  " jesus answered them, "destroy this temple, and i will raise it again in three days.

  " the jews replied, "it has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?

Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days." The Jews replied, "It has taken forty-six years to build this temple, and you are going to raise it in three days?" But the temple he had spoken of was his body.

  Have you ever come across a scripture in the bible and suddenly it spoke differently to you? Something you never noticed before? I must have read this scripture 1,000 times as a JW - yet this last weekend I suddenly noticed two things

  1) Jesus answered them, "Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days. He didn't say God would do it - he claimed the miracle for himself. Now Moses was kept out of the promised land because he claimed one of God's miracles for himself - it was a serious sin. So what gives? Was he claiming one of God's miracles for himself - or was he in fact powerful enough to resurrect himself? If so - he certainly could not be a mere angel.

  2) The verse goes on to say "But the temple he had spoken of was his body". As a JW I was taught that Jesus was resurrected in spirit only. So is this a lie also?

  Why didn't I notice this before? Anyone have an answer about how this is answered by the society?

  The Knock at the Door After the Prayer

  this experience is commoly related by jehovah's witnesses:.

  a man or woman is desperately searching for "the truth" or someone is about to give up on life but before they do they utter a prayer to god and lo and behold a knock is heard on the door and behind the door are jehovah's witnesses.. these experiences are used by jw's to confirm angelic direction on their work and seems to reinforce in them that they have the "truth".. how does one argue against such personal experience?.

  i am no longer a jw and no longer support their organizational teachings by the way, but i'd like to throw out the above question to you all for comment and consideration.. .

  I don't know if that was an answer to my desperate prayer. Maybe it was just me opening my eyes for the first time and seeing what was there all along.

  It may be a little of both. Jesus promised that if we seek the truth we would find it - and the truth would set us free. It was there all along, and when you were ready to see it you did.

  How does one argue against such personal experience?

  If the knock at the door is evidence of divine direction when applied to JW's then it must also be evidence of divine direction when applied elsewhere. There are plenty of stories of individuals who prayed for help and soon after had an answer.

  I do not believe that God is denominational. I believe that he reads the heart of individuals and hears the prayers of all kinds of people, mormon, JW, catholic, muslim, etc.

  So if you would like, you can reply with my testimony - which is also a true story.

  At a time in my life when I needed to make a final decision, should I continue going to the new church I had found, or should I listen to what my Dad had just told me - that I was being mislead and had better get back to the JW's and be reinstated. I stood next to my car in a parking lot and decided to say a quick prayer. You know the feeling of confusion that an x-JW trying to break away can go through - that's where I was. My prayer was almost word for word like this..."I don't know what to do, but I need to know if I should keep going to church now. Is this where you want me? Please give me a sign and make it really clear because I don't know how to listen to you" I opened my eyes just as a car was backing up - it had a bumper sticker that said "You are right where you belong" I know the bumper sticker is meant to be funny, but I got the message. I was right where Jesus wanted me - he knew where I needed to be to heal.

  YES!!

  I study it quite a bit now. Mostly because I have realized that I had a completely inaccurate understanding of it and decided to resolve that. I find that reading it now is much easier AND more enjoyable - probably because it makes sense. I no longer have to try and twist the scriptures into some pretzel type explanation to wrap it around a completely unsupported doctrine (like only 144,000 going to heaven). Now I read the bible free of any help other than the holy spirit.

  Memorial anyone?

  NO!!!

  But I will have a private celebration because I appreciate what the Lord has done for me in my life. And I WILL partake (since I won't have anyone else to pass the plate on to.........)

  lately it seems i run into jw's almost daily - in the store, at the bank, at school, at the healthclub.

  i have even run into them out in service while they're at the house next door to where i'm dropping off my kids for daycare, or going to visit a friend, etc.

  i have been out so long now that most of them don't know i'm an x-jw, but i recognize them by the books in their hands or they have a songbook in the window of their car.. of course, i have always run into them occassionally - but over the past several months it has been an almost daily basis.

  lately it seems i run into jw's almost daily - in the store, at the bank, at school, at the healthclub.

  i have even run into them out in service while they're at the house next door to where i'm dropping off my kids for daycare, or going to visit a friend, etc.

  i have been out so long now that most of them don't know i'm an x-jw, but i recognize them by the books in their hands or they have a songbook in the window of their car.. of course, i have always run into them occassionally - but over the past several months it has been an almost daily basis.

  Dress for Memorial

  ok, advice please.

  i just bought a red layered dress.

  i don't know how to explain it completely, but it is a red chiffon and a copy of a very famous german styler.

  Goofy -

  What counts is what's on the inside - not what is on the outside. JW's put so much emphasis on making the right "impression" and they forget about focusing their attention on what really matters.

  So I would say - If you like the dress and you want to wear it - then by all means wear it!! And if someone gives you a hard time about it I would say they are petty, jealous, and rather shallow minded.
