orgin of my name

i have only been an active member for a couple of days here, or a newbie as we are affectionatley called.

since i have been here though, on a few occasions, i have been asked about my choice of nicname and what it means or why i chose it.

since there is a reason behind it, and in my mind it stands for something, i thought i would share it's orgins with you all.

If I may suggest something however, is to remember that Jesus didn't so much "steal" your youth; it was the Watchtower Society and the idiots that run it.

However - I can completely relate to Jesusstolemyhotrod (man that's a long one to type out ). When I was booted out for the SECOND time I was so completely disillusioned with God, religion, everything. I summed up all organized religion in the same way and decided that it, and God, had nothing to offer me - they were all scams.

I kept that belief for about 12 years, until I met some people who didn't fit the pattern I had based my decision on. They weren't anything like the dubs. They didn't insist that I attend any particular church, were not self-righteous, and they were very loving and charitable to people. They simply shared their testimony with me and encouraged me to read the bible for myself and make my own decision - they continued to be my friend but did not "push" religion on me in any way. After some time of studying the bible on my own, and really researching it I realized that organized religion is just manmade, and it is full of errors. It is separate from God. Religion is man's attempt to reach God - but we don't need it to be with him. God came down to earth to show us the way - we can have a relationship with him without being a member of any religion. I now attend a non-denominational church in my area because I enjoy the worship services and have made a lot of friends there with the same beliefs as I - but I don't believe that this CHURCH is GOD, and I don't HAVE to be a member or follow any particular set of manmade rules to have a relationship with God. To me, church is just a tool that I use to share in worship and to accomplish things in the community (charity events, etc).

no jw's have been to my door for years because they all know where i live - my mom drives by with her "car group" and points out our house, even stops to use the potty or get a pop.

silly - i know, but mom doesn't seem to care about the shunning thing (thank goodness).. anyways - hubby and i have bought a new house and will be moving out of this congregation's area soon.

it's a brand new house in a new area so i'm sure it'll get worked fairly quickly (new blood on the block).

Anyways - hubby and I have bought a new house and will be moving out of this congregation's area soon. It's a brand new house in a new area so I'm sure it'll get worked fairly quickly (new blood on the block). So I want to be prepared for the first visit.

Keeping in mind that my goal is not to "beat up" on those that come to the door - I honestly want to give them something to think about and in a way that does not put them on the defense. With this in mind - what one bible question would have made you (or did make you) stop and think. What could I ask them that they wouldn't have a prepared answer for - that they could not answer and stay within their doctrine? I have thought about bringing up the fact that they didn't believe Jesus had taken the throne in 1914 until 1919 - but I think they would just feel on the defense with that one.

My story...

okay, i've chatted with several of you and i thought it was time to tell my story.

it all began during the gulf war early in january 1991. i was concerned about the war becoming the end of the world and naturally, because of my lifestyle, i began asking myself what i intended to do with my life.

a pioneer sister worked in the office where i worked, i knew she was a witness and studied the bible so i asked her opinion on what was happening.

you've got to love the watchtower.

they must think that the general population has no bible available to it.

while scrolling through a list of their beliefs on the official site, there was one that really caught my eye because of its sheer ludicrousness.

On no no no - see, the idea confuse people with useless details, presented as fact, keeping attention away from the real purpose and truth.

I work in the legal field - defense attys use this tactic a lot when they don't have a good case. Sad thing is that it works sometimes - both in the court room and in the religious arena. If only people could weed out the sh*t (literally).

Making peace with God...

i was disfellowshipped in 1996 for "fornication".

this disfellowshipping literally crushed me as i felt i was fully repentant at the time.

i was the one who approached the elders to confess.

What a great post Pronger-Matt!! We have something in common - it was through a friend's funeral that I first realized God was reaching out to me.

I look forward to reading more of your posts! I bet that you will see God reaching out to you again soon - now that you have recognized it.

Prayer to Jesus Christ?

did the apostles and disciples pray to jesus christ?

2nd corinthians 12:8: concerning this thing, i begged the lord three times that it might depart from me.. 2nd corinthians 12:9: he has said to me, "my grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.

" most gladly therefore i will rather glory in my weaknesses, that the power of christ may rest on me.. 2nd corinthians 12:10: therefore i take pleasure in weaknesses, in injuries, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses, for christ's sake.

A lot of ex-dubs (and current dubs) do not get any peace by praying to "Jehovah" - it is because the name reminds us of the bad things about the org, the crap we've went through.

I believe that you should pray to whomever you feel comfortable praying to - whether it be God, Jesus, Jehovah, Yahweh, Adonai, or Lord. What's important is that you pray - not HOW you pray.

Typical of the org to put the emphasis on PROCEDURE. Appearances and control - that's all that matters.

confuzcious - a lot of people can relate to that. We've all done it at one time or another out of fear. Don't beat yourself up - it's a learning experience - just use it to move on up to the next level of strength and freedom.
