What is the Governing Body doing now?
by sunshineToo inaccording to "crisis of conscience", the gb didn't have power/control before 1975. the corporation ( the watchtower bible and tract society inc.) had the power, and they were neglecting the people.
after the 1975 commotion, they tried to act like the gb.
so they took over the control.

Was it the bible or Jehovahs witnesses?
by sleepy inwas it the bible you started to doubt or jehovahs witnesses ?.
with me it was the bible which i could not reconcile with common sense , obviously from that i could see jw' s were certainly wrong.but many here still believe the bible.. why?if you can't trust a group of men who are alive today in brooklyn how can you trust people who are long dead , and have no chance of speaking to?.
it worries me that i believed in jehovahs witnesses.it worries me more that so many feel they broke free from brainwashing etc only to still believe the bible.. jehovahs witnesses are flawed because they try to follow the bible which in turn is a flawed book.

Starting around Sept 2001, the scripture where Jesus said that his yoke was kindly and his load light kept coming into my mind. I thought to myself that there is nothing kindly or light about being a JW, the WT started seeming more and more like an abusive parent (how is your father going to feel about that? Hmmm? HMMMM?) So I guess it was a little of both.

Marked for death
by kenpodragon inwhen i think of the issue of disfellowshipping, i am often reminded of the nazi death camps.
often in the early days of nazi recruitment, the nazi's would encourage the new young members to report what was going on at home.
those with the best information, were rewarded with the most responsibility and authority.

A funny story from last November:
I had been in a congo where it seemed that at least half of the members were related in one way or another. That ol' JW inbreeding. Anyway, one of the elders was a really nice old (85 yrs) guy, he was a member of this family. This elder has four kids in their 40's and 50's, all of which were baptized dubbies at one time but only one of which has stuck with the troof. He still has more than "business-only" contact with the others, and everyone knows it, but he got away with it.
One of his daughters (whom I've since come to know) is a very well-known and vocal ex-jw in my area. "Apostate Queen" was a term someone used to describe her to me. She left around '87 after having her eyes opened by reading the Bible instead of Watchtower literature.
Anyways, this elder still has a friendly relationship with this daughter, much to the disgust of the pious ones in the congregation, including his grandson, an alchoholic ex-convict dumb-dub self-righteous true believer.
So, this daughter has a big feast on Thanksgiving and dad comes over to mingle a bit.
I don't know the details, but somehow pharisee-grandson learns that granddad is *gasp* at his apostate daughter's house *gasp* celebrating Thanksgiving. So off he runs to the elders.
Granddad ends up resigning his post as congo elder. You know how the Watchtower Pyramid works, if you're at the bottom rung (publisher, woman) you get df'd for something like this. If you hold a title, you just lose the title.
When I was a newbie JW, I stumbled across the book "Witnesses of Jehovah". This was when I was still on my "I'VE FOUND THE TRUTH!!!" Watchtower honeymoon. The book said, among other things, that JW's spy on each other. "NO!! THAT'S RIDICULOUS!!" I said to myself.
I was so naive.
So glad to be out.

Two North centerfold
please explain this idiom as I am unfamiliar with it.
There are some fairly nice & decent elders out there. Usually they don't last long.
The PO of a congo I attended for a couple o' years was a complete borg-brain. He had perfected, more than any other elder I knew, the "are you doing all you can" (tm) and the "don't be offended or take issue with anything because even though it's God's org it is made up of imperfect men" (tm) Watchtower overseer mantras. Maybe that's why he was in the substitute-CO work, well on his way to being a regular CO. He just about made me ill. I was well on my way out by the time I quit that congo.

Reconciling God and Suffering, the age-old theological dilemna. I read a book by Peter Kreeft (Catholic writer and philosopher) where he took a stab at the question. He didn't pretend to have all the answers (like some arrogant religionists that we're all familiar with) but I think he made some good points.
In the book, he quotes from a Rabbi named Abraham Heschel - "The man who has not suffered, what does he know anyway?"
Suffering disturbs me as much as anyone else. But I do not find atheism to be a satisfying answer.
To me, it all boils down to one thing - was Jesus resurrected? I'm still trying to figure out if I believe it.

Anderson Committee Move In For Kill
by silentlambs inwell it appears the watchtower is back at their executions.
after jr brown besmirched her moral character by saying she was being disfellowshipped for other sins unrelated to the dateline program, now three men want to meet her at a motel?
why not the kingdom hall?

Gee, I wonder if the outcome of this JC might be a foregone conclusion.
They'll handpick 3 hard-hardliners to railroad her ass out, same as they did with Ray.

Well, the van parked down the street, so they had her in sight. Plus, I'm probably not a very intimidating looking person.
The WT was "How Can You Benefit from Godly Principles".
