Witnesses in the area are hyper-materialistic.
I still don't understand where the money came from for the assembly hall. I get the impression the local congs have subscribed to pay certain amounts regularly?
i think this deserves it's own thread, so as not to get mixed-up tl;dr - go to the bar charts at the end...picking up on jambon1's comments:.
the one in the op - livingston, was a merge to the newly built assembly hall in the same area.
i think three congs share that building now.. nice wee scoop up of the cash from the sale of livingston and whitburn.

" and a mighty cry went out over all the land: "sell !
sell !
sell !

Nice wee scoop up of the cash from the sale of Livingston and Whitburn. Having said that, these aren't desirable areas and they'll not sell for very much money. Also, they've probably spent a great deal on the new assembly hall. One wonders how that cash was raised.
having seen a few of these tv productions and some youtube clips of their assembly parts, how can jehovah's witnesses really take these silly little men seriously?.
you take one look at them; their overweight, fat little bodies.
their entirely shabby, overhanging suits.
Having seen a few of these TV productions and some YouTube clips of their assembly parts, how can Jehovah's Witnesses really take these silly little men seriously?
You take one look at them; their overweight, fat little bodies. Their entirely shabby, overhanging suits. Their weird obsessive manner of speaking about life which is so far removed from reality it's actually scary. Their psychotic, over exaggerated facial expressions.
All of that, topped by what seems to me to be classic small penis syndrome - throwing their authority around as if it actually means shit to anybody other than the rank and file JW's.
Their cringey, cult like persona is now in full view for the world to see. The veil has been lifted. It astonishes me that anyone takes them even remotely seriously.
havent had an encounter with a witness in a while, almost 10 years, though at this point i could run circles around them in the scriptures, this encounter was very strange.
was eating with my son at a coffee shop, guy comes up using it as an opening.
i'm use to this because people find my son beautiful so i was open to him.
They all look thoroughly dead behind the eyes to me.
Clinging on to a religion who's generation doesn't have the longevity to remember when the JW religion was having its 'glory years'. And even that era has been openly exposed as having been built on false prophecy & outright lies.
A religion which is very easily blown apart with simple facts and logic. This is why they run away so quickly form any significant challenge.
A generation of people simply going through the motions to keep up appearances, all the while questioning daily the validity of their entire belief system, challenged every passing day with reminders of how out of sink and backward their beliefs are.
When I think about the mental gymnastics they have to go through it really does depress me.
Live your lives for goodness sake! It's going to be over before you know it.
if you tell someone "merry christmas" or simply respond with "you too", then god is angry with you and you will answer for every such violation at your day of judgment.. if you eat some leftover birthday cake and a thin-skinned witness sees you and gets offended even though there's nothing wrong with the cake itself, you have become a stumbling block and god wants you to fix it before judgment day or else.. if you watch a cartoon featuring characters that may or may not be hilariously gay, it turns out that it does matter because this is an affront to god and he will judge all those who entertain such cartoons.. there are a lot of implications about god that jehovah's witnesses seem to make but never consider.
the problem is that they don't follow it all the way through.
in keeping themselves in god's love, and considering how they think he feels about matters in their daily lives, they submit to what is basically an ecclesiastical opinion that has terrible implications about god's character.
Jehovah is an awfully precious wee soul. And boaby daft as well. Loves a rule or two about people's genitalia. Quite the little pervert actually.
If you had a mate that acted like that you'd have dumped him a looooong time ago.
some facts that make the difference between you and me:.
1 - as a person raised by non jw family, my parents have never loved me based on conditions set out by a group of old men who they don't even know.
how does it feel to know that you are in the unique situation where your parents brought you into the world and said 'i'll show love to you.
Interesting to note that kids despised the conventions.
My son opted out around age 8. I'd already left the religion so I was happy for him not to go but it'd break my heart when he'd cry on the morning of the convention saying "all I do is sit there listening to things I don't understand about".
I'd argue in the past and still maintain today that the sort of material that they allow kids to hear at these ridiculous events is not age appropriate. It's a wonder they don't get into trouble from the authorities for exposing children to detailed material relating to sex, death and other inappropriate topics.
Again, why can't they see how wrong it is?

Thanks for the remarks.
Yes, I'd stand by my original term 'wicked'.
And let's not forget those who are homosexual.
Generally despised, looked down upon, made to feel dirty or evil.
And then in the end, when you finally struggle to come out (often after years of emotional turmoil), your parents dump you forevermore. Each passing year your lifestyle is met with their scorn and disapproval.
Hideous.

How does it feel to know that you are in the unique situation where your parents brought you into the world and said 'I'll show love to you. But, only if you believe the same things as me. Otherwise I will view you as dead'. Absolutely crazy.
2 - my parents never taught me the deep seated, harmful & divisive concept that EVERYONE who doesn't believe what we believe is worthy of death, and a horrific one at that - strewn as manure over the surface of the earth! This has got to be deeply harmful to the mind of a child.
3 - my parents provided me with a diverse and socially interesting background of people who would later go on to provide me with superb, non judgmental, life long friendships. If you state that you believe differently from friends, you lose your entire social network in an instant. How sad.
4 - my parents never taught me bedtime stories about babies being cut in half, people being drowned in a worldwide flood or an imminent impending death for all humanity. Again, the psychological impact of this must have been horrendous.
5 - my parents never put the responsibilities of an adult onto myself as a young child. Expecting your child to make a stand for something they dont have a full grasp of, at school, is utterly mind boggling to me. Forcing your child to continually stand out as different among big groups of their peers is selfish and inconsiderate of the child's feelings.
6 - on a Saturday morning I watched cartoons.
All in all, parents who raise their children as witnesses are in my opinion, self absorbed, inconsiderate and in the case of implementing shunning, outright wicked.
i left the religion behind because I could see the glaring harm that a JW upbringing would do to my children. The psychological impact must be significant. Those that remain must be completely blind to the potential harm.
I wish more parents would wake up before it's too late.

it seems that many times in life there is a moment or an action that changes your whole world.
it could be just a look that someone gives you.. many times it can be something rather small.
something hardly noticeable by anyone but you.
Listening to David Attenborough describe the 'creation' of worms which cause river blindness versus 'creation' such as butterflies or beautiful flowers.
Sitting in my living room in December 2002 saying to myself 'I'm out the truth'. Took me 3 further years to leave.
