The Dubs seem to have the mindset, that if you are complaining about a problem, you need to be given advice. The fact is, many people are just venting, and a little sympathy is all they're looking for, like Anewme said. Just compassion, and someone to care, not to tell you to go look up a scripture, and have a nice day.

Have you heard, "There are people worse off than you, stop complaining!"
by WingCommander inthis was a typical response to any kind of complaint or sharing of a personal situation with anyone in the congregation.
instead of offering up some kind of physical or emotional support, almost 100% of the time me and my family would get the old:.
"don't you know that there are brothers worse off than you in the world, whom are truly hurting?

I have trust issues , but what do you think about this ....
by troubled mind inthe reverend down the street has made friends with my son ...... yesterday we came down hard on our 18 yr old son because he has not gotten a job since graduation , and can not pay for his share of the cell phone or car insurance .
so we took these privileges away until he can pay .
well he must of went over to the rev's last night and the guy offered to give him $100.

I think it's fishy; the rev seems eager to get your son hanging around. Of course, an eighteen year old will know if the jobs become too "physical..." Can you see if he's made similar offers to neighbor kids, and how it turned out?

Were you a bathroom breaker?
by Mysterious ini swear my mother used to keep better track of my bladder than i did.
she'd sit me down occasionally for talks such as "i noticed you've been going to the bathroom a lot during the meetings lately maybe we need to cut down on what you drink on meeting nights" etc.
others would go 2 or 3 times a meeting and if i went twice a week i'd get a talk about it!

At our Hall, it seemed like the sisters looked forward to the song, to run to the ladies room and stand around chatting. Many times, the song was over and the blablabla of the talk had been droning on for awhile before all the sisters returned to their seats, I went every song, whether I had to, or not. After awhile, my mom talked to me about how, it seemed like I missed all the songs. Of course I did, lol!

I love my saturdays......
by freedomlover ini woke up this morning and made coffee and we are planning on eating a big breakfast and then doing a hike to a waterfall where we can play in the water and pick wild blueberries.
it got me thinking how wonderful it is to have my weekends to myself now.
when i was a dub i would skip out on service a lot but the whole day was ruined for me because i'd feel guilty for not going out in service.

When I got my first minimum wage job,at a local factory, but still lived at home, I used to volunteer to work overtime on Saturday, just to avoid field service! After I got an apartment, my room mate actually had to teach me what normal people do on Saturdays. I felt like a tourist in a foreign country, learning new customs! Now I know why people look forward so much to Friday nights and their weekends.

A Drunk MissPeaches
by chuckie77 ini had a phonecall last night from an intoxicated lady most of you will know as misspeaches.
it was hilarious, especially when she offered to send a photograph of herself to me in the middle east, to give to some philippinos that i work with!
of course in return they had to smuggle some alcohol onto the boat for me, fair trade i say!.

Children and school assembly
by dobbie inmy little child in the uk starts school soon.
i wasn't brought up a jw and am inactive but there are lots of other jw children going and apparently are'nt allowed to go to school assemblies.
i can't remember anything wrong with school assemblies and i think it's daft to keep my child in a separate room while its going on.

I, too, was told to go sit in the library, but I finally just started going to the assembly and not telling my parents. They objected to the flag salute when the thing began, it was sometimes oriented around a holiday, or they would have us build up school spirit for a football game, or just sing "objectionable" songs. The elders advised to not put the kids in a group situation where peer pressure might weaken them, and they join in the flag salute or national anthem, or similar wicked acts.
