I must be having a blond moment, because now I'm confused, JW's have the truth because they don't swear? Well, my Dad was an elder and he swore quite liberally when I was growing up. Mom said it was because he worked with worldly people all day and he couldn't help it. She would ask him to try harder and he would laugh. He even swore on the way to the meetings! We decided to show him how awful he sounded by playing a little trick on him. (Caution: this is SOO wild!) Dad got in the car to drive us to the meeting one evening. I sing out, "Hey, start the damn car, haha!" Dad spun around in his seat and told me to cut out my cussing. On signal, Mom smiled piously and said, "Well, sweetheart, we just wanted to show you how you sound!" He was better for awhile, but not long. Must be cuz he's got the truth??

Not swearing is proof of the "truth"
by pennycandy inthis was a said by my jw relative to my never-been-jw husband this weekend, during a conversation about the prevalence of swearing.. "my friend maria's husband [was unbelieving mate, now a witness] always swore like a sailor.
he said he could see jehovah's witnesses had the truth because they didn't use bad language.".
for all the reasons for believing jw's have the truth, this was a new one to me..

So i asked her
by KW13 inmum, i said.. "if you were forced to decide, either quit being a witness or your son will die what would you choose?".
she said.. "well, i'd choose jehovah".
i thought she'd attempt to cover it up, maybe say "i don't know" or even shout at me but she answered that, she's confused thinking that pleasing god is being a witness, and i'd have to die because of her beliefs...deep down i knew the answer but it confirmed a few things for me.. i ain't shocked or upset but...if i was in the same situation, i would never ever let someone else suffer what i believe, that isn't just.. but she added something else.

Someday, if she ever wakes up from the cult, she will just kick herself for what she said to you!

Your eating habits
by greendawn intell us about your eating habits, are you health conscious do you avoid synthetic additives in food such as artificial flavours and preservatives and generally all processed food, are you vegetarian, vegan, do you buy organic food out of fear of pesticides, do you eat too much, do you go on diets often etc .
i was shocked to read somewhere that 90% of the food americans eat is processed.
it saves time using such food but....

Haha, Gumby, those Mexicans were flicking their leetle flyers at my husband when we were in Vegas on our honeymoon! The nerve, those cabrones! So, when they said to him, shoving their filthy flouncing floozy flyers, "You want girls?' I says, "He doesn't, but I do!" they were shocked! That was funny.

I eat low carb, and it really works for me. I'm not super strict with it, but balance my diet with vegetables. I don't eat sugars, and limit pastas, rice and breads. I eat lots of nuts for snacks, or cheeses and fruits in moderation. This gives me lots of energy, and I can't remember when I had my last cold or virus! My only real splurge is a glass of dry red wine at bedtime, but that's good for me too, lol! This keeps my weight down too, but I do admit I can "pinch an inch!"

A fine witness
by elliej ini just felt like sharing my experience from the weekend, thanks in advance for letting me vent.. we travelled to our home state for the holiday, the first visit my husband has made home since christmas.
his family (non-jw) held a "get together" on sunday so everyone could see him and visit.
his brother, a witness, refused to attend even though he has not seen us in 5 months.

They are their own worst enemy, aren't they? Sorry it was hurtful to your husband, but at least it solidified in his mind what a load of lies "the truth" is! Blessings to you both.

Recovering from Meeting Withdrawl
by Nosferatu inafter i quit going to meetings, tuesdays, thursdays, and sundays felt really strange.
it was so weird having all this time to myself that i never had before.
it took about 1-2 years for me to fully adjust to this new found free time.. anyone else experience this?

Meeting withdrawal? I used to feel like I was supposed to be getting ready for about the first couple of months. Did I miss rushing into a hot dress and hose on a beautiful summer evening? HAHAHA! Feel like reading the paper on the patio? Do it!
Feel like an ice cold beer after work? Do it!
Feel like going to the Mall, or watching TV? Do it!
Nope, no withdrawal, just an exhilarating sense of freedom and enjoyment of life!

All the money flowing into Brooklyn Bethel.....
by MissBehave inon what are they spending it?
can't be on new kingdom halls, since they "loan" the money to the congregations?
can it really cost $950 million dollars a year to print magazines and books?

Well, wouldn't there be emormous property taxes to pay on the real estate in Crooklyn? Do (faux) non profits still pay taxes?

Convention Report - Deliverance At Hand?
by daniel-p inso i just got back from the convention - yes, feel pity on me... i had to attend all three days, spend money on a crappy hotel, sleep in a crappy town, sit on my ass for 8 hours a day, and all just to hear about the same old crap you can read in any watchtower.
i didn't take notes because not only would my head have exploded from the sheer boredom and stupidity, but i would be responsible for all your heads exploding as well.
are there any highlights?

"They've liberated women to the point they don't know what to do anymore.."
I'd have known what to do- walk straight outta there! HOW do they keep any sisters attending, when many women are in the job force and/or have a college education? It just amazes me they're willing to submit to that crap.
Look around, Brother Billy-Bob CO: Your next janitorial job supervisor may be a woman!

Another lame example of their circular reasoning. The council doesn't apply to the Witchtower because they're God's people, because they say so. Glad you're out of that mess, you and your family deserve better.
