i have a friend who backed out of scientology way back when hubbard was still alive.
we go to lunch together quite often here at work.
we have often commented about the great similarity & difficulty between breaking away from wt and from the scientologists.

i was df'd in 1985 and have not been back since.
of course disowned by my family.
at that time they rarely called or came over because i had small children and they called just enough to semi maintain a relationship with them.
Acutally, my mother has been the JW all my life. My father was never interested. He was the breadwinner, mom was the spiritual head. But, once I was DF'd, my father just sort of stopped calling and seeing me because that's what mom did. (sick, huh?) So now, dad is retired, bored or whatever and he decides he has SEEN THE LIGHT and is going to be a witness. HE called me on the phone one night to invite me to his BAPTISM!!!!!!!! He used the words, that it was an 'important occasion' and he wanted me to be there. NEVER have I stood up to or talked back to my father. I couldn't help it this time! I said, 'This is important to you? What about what was important to (I named various things that were important to my children and myself)............' I ended by saying that I couldn't carry on this conversation because it was making me ill. I hung up. He hasn't called again.
yup, the one thing i miss about assemblies.
the chase.
sneaking off at lunch and/or half the afternoon session to make out w/ someone you just met.
Couldn't wait until I was old enough (12 years old probably) to be a volunteer for food service at the assemblies! That way, I was able to miss part of the sessions to prepare food in the cafeteria or stands. And, that was the age when we started noticing the opposite sex and boy oh boy it was a thrill just to make eye contact!!!

I have 2 siblings, one still a JW. The other, my sister, THANKFULLY left also. So, yipppeee, I have one family member and we have the absolute BEST relationship. I have long thought that if and when my parents get to a place in health and age that they need help, they better have lots of insurance or money stashed because this cast out daughter is not going to suddenly become USED! My sister that is still a JW will be holding the bag...........unless their 'spiritual family' steps in. LOL!!!
its richie again.. i was thinking last night about my inevitable, fast approaching exit from the wtbts.
i guess that out of common courtesy, i will provide a copy of my disassociation letter to my mother, however, it is nothing more than a baptism nullification / gag order / i'll sue all of you letter.
its not one of those lengthy numbers that some have chosen to write.
If she is a 'good' witness, she won't read any of it......................

Your dad sent a letter and is waiting for an answer? ha. I have been waiting for a reply to a letter I sent in 1985.....................and waiting and waiting..........
ive been on two cruises in the early 90's with large amounts of witnesses.
one cruise we had around 85 and the other 175. one night on the larger jw cruise there were 50 or so of us watching this comedian.
he started getting a little crude using words like penis so we all got up at the same time and walked out during his act.
You probably didn't hear the audience that remained seated CLAPPING because your group walked out!!!
.
when you were a dud (i call it 'dud' not dub..lol), ok how can i put this.....were you 'always on'?
meaning did you always have something to give to people or witness to them at 'every' opportunity or did you look at it as a 'job' where you only gave things out in service?
Born and raised into it, so don't think I ever latched on, just did the JW thing because that is all I knew. IN school, simply because I didn't do 'worldly & pagan things' was information enough to let people know I was a JW. I went through school pretty quiet, just hoping no one would talk to ME. When we would go door to door, I always wanted my 'door partner' to take the next house.

Now that the kids are grown and gone, they have no reason to call. However, it seems like there must be a new light or something because over the last 5 years they do call once or twice a year about nothing in particular. If you heard the manner they speak you would think we are so close and talk all the time, when we are in fact now total strangers!!! What is it?
new to the site.
have been away from the jw's since 1985. they have a new bible or what?
i remember the nwt not niv.
