i don't now whether anyone else read that article, but several of the photos , and the comments under the subtitle "happy marriages" wherein the happy quartet suggested that they acceded to marriage only when uber-zealot females who took priority over physically attractive girls could be found.... made me wonder... hmmmm... .

for the record, i don't think a person should be able to use "assault weapons" or "machine guns" or "rocket launchers".

i do think guns should be allowed.

but certainly not everyone is "qualified" to use a firearm.. even if you legally, rightfully can have a weapon, it doesn't mean that a "kook" wouldn't steal it and use it in a nefarious way.. i am convinced that you could take licenses away from drinkers and they still could get behind the wheel and wreak havoc.. you could ban switchblades and gun silencers and people will still find a way to quickly slice you up or muffle a sound.. you could ban or try to curtail cough medicines and people will still find a way to get high.. we cannot, government cannot---control what people will do.

Criminals, even murderers, even mentally ill murderers are human beings first and therefore subject to some of the same human vagaries as the rest of us. Which means that we are suggestible, distractable, impatient, changeable, insecure, etc.

Anything that thwarts or delays a person's intentions can allow time for his intent to be either modified or abandoned altogether. I don't think it hurts to make it more difficult for them to carry out an impulsive act.

America has a superiority complex - we're taught 'American exceptionalism,' and that Europe is second-rate. America isn't just a wonderful country - it is somehow entitled to special privileges and we as Americans are, too, regardless of our individual talents.

We also have a fixation on 'rights' in this country - the notion of 'freedom' is constantly used and misused to manipulate public discourse and politics. Unfortunately, we DO NOT have a a corresponding emphasis on responsibility as a cohort or prerequisite of rights where rights are not earned - they accrue to one by virtue of being alive, by virtue of being an American. Yet, some rights should be earned, should be tied to demonstrated responsibility.

That child felt that he had the full weight of the Founding Fathers, the Bill of Rights and the Declaration of Independence behind him when he called his mother a "stupid bitch."

hi everyone; this is my first post.

yes, a long long time ago my grandmother, freshly immigrated from post-war england to rural australia, waiting for months for her husband to follow, with only her baby for company, heard a knock at the door.

she opened it and there were two witnesses, who, after hearing how she'd just been crying in the kitchen, begging god for a friend, probably couldn't have believed their luck.
