To be a parent is to take on the mantle of everlasting guilt. Children have no such reciprocal burden. They have the luxury of flailing around, ranting at you, weeping and moaning about the suckitude of life. And you have to take it.

Children crave the security of knowing that someone is in charge - that's why we invented God. You do her no favor if you are uncertain or wishy-washy. Let her know that you are on solid ground about your convictions. That is the best gift you can give her.

And unconditional love.

How did you long-timers do it before the internet / Ray Franz books / abundant information?

with all the tools and information at the disposal of newly awakened ones, it's still no easy task coming to terms with the magnitude of it all.

it still takes a lot of gut-wrenching time and effort to get to the point where you are sure you made the right decision to leave.. .

how did you long-timers (old-timers, respectfully) manage it without crisis of conscience, christian freedom, jwn, jwfacts, freeminds, access to thousands of fellow survivors with stories just like yours?.

I left before we even had computers, let alone the interwebs. I'd had doubts for quite some time and it was initially an emotional withdrawal - in my heart it just didn't make sense. I faded, so my large JW family didn't quite know I'd left until I "married out of the truth." When we bought our first home my brother formally disowned me ("anything we ever were to each other no longer exists") but my mother never did. The longer I was out, the more sure I was that this was not "the truth," even though I had moments of uncomfortable cognitive dissonance. But, the world was so much bigger and more interesting than these small-minded ciphers at the KH were allowed to see, so I hung on.

After nearly ten years of being the only person I knew who was an apostate, I got my hands on and read Visions of Glory: A History and a Memory of Jehovah's Witnesses by Barbara Grizzuti Harrison. I inhaled that book like oxygen. Finally I had an intellectual underpinning for my emotional disconnect.

I haven't felt a shred of cognitive dissonance about the WTS in 30+ years.

New Video aka Sparlock- View of Active JW

so over the weekend i was in a cargroup for service, yes i still go out but i dont ring doorbells or knock i just go out to keep wife and other elders off my back, anyway the video came up and i said nothing about it but the other 3 people in the car ( a pioneer and 1 elder, 1 publisher) said that it was good.

yes you heard correctly good!

the pioneer even stated that the annimation was good and it is short enough to hold a young childs attention.

I think a lot of jws will say it's good even if they think it's a bunch of bs.

Just like a lot of JWs engage in field circus even though they are secretly waiting to make their escape.

It's all about planting seeds. Some sprout overnight, some take longer and some are frozen beneath the ice, waiting for the warmth of spring. But the main thing is to plant the seeds.

missed quite a few episodes due to attending kh meetings, but i'm making up for that.. the show reminds me so of growing up in a large family, having to share everything, and looking out for each other..
