Then why come do we have DFing arrangement "to keep the congregation clean" wherein JC's usurp Jehoover's timetable and pronounce judgment?

in the golden age goodies thread leolaia has posted two letters that were printed in the magazine written by rutherford, one in 1928 and the other in 1938. in both letters rutherford states either that radio "was created by god" or "no man invented radio".. rutherford also goes into his conspiratorial ideas of how the roman catholic church was working with the nazis to overthrow the governments of england and of the usa to bring in a totalitarian fascist government to both countries.. these remarks sound like the ravings of someone who is not mentally all there.. so the question that naturally arises is this: was rutherford mentally ill?.

recently i had the pleasure to examine a stash of 1920s and 1930s golden age magazines, among the rarest of watchtower publications.
i thought it would be a fun idea to have a thread in which i share with you some of the amazing, ridiculous, hilarious things contained therein.
hence, this is the first post of a series of excerpts, scans, etc.
Witnesses don't follow the teachings of the Golden age and haven't for many years. There are many that don't even know the publications exist. Why are you indulging in the past?

There are many avenues of acquiring wealth for an organization as large and powerful as the WTS; direct donations to the contribution box is probably the least of it. Think 'real estate.'
Come on people where is the money coming in from...huh? The average JW isn't even college educated. JW's believe in keeping life simple and not becoming consumbed with the pursuit of riches......

when i first started studying with the jehovah witnesses, although i am a technical, matter of fact type of guy, the thing that got my attention was the genuine love i saw in the congregation (this was in the early 80's).
it made such a impression on me that i ignored some of the serious questions i had about the organization and went ahead and got baptized (i figured things would get sorted out over time and decided to give the society the benefit of the doubt) .
the congregation i went to was a fireball, full of activity and good works and growing fast.
I was monetarily lost for words.

There is so much back-stabbing, score-keeping and paranoia in the congos, how could love flourish? And I agree, it seems to have gotten worse.

ya know... i'm a bit amazed at times at how utterly out of touch with reality jw's can be.
here's a little bit of a background of what's been going on....
i've been having an on going issue with my jw family about my husband & i(and our 4 young children) no longer going to meetings and us having questions/problems with this religion.we are not df'd nor da'd (at this point) but have not been to a meeting in about 7 months and have been inactive for probably 3-4 years now.we haven't lived near my parents for several years so they have been a little "in the dark" so to speak as to us being inactive but we kinda were given a bit of "lee-way" since 5 yrs.

Great story - so many facets to respond to, but the overwhelming realization is that you are very strong and are to be commended for withstanding this onlaught and being true to yourself and your family.
The desperation you describe on the part of your sisters has been nurtured and fed by the WTS. A perfect example of the "fruits" by which you will know them.
I JUDGE MYSELF AND JUST WANT TO GIVE UP FOR FEAR OF NOT BEING GOOD ENOUGH, OR NOT BEING ABLE TO GET BACK ON TRACK. BUT I CAN'T GIVE UP , EVEN IF I WANT TO , CAUSE I KNOW THIS IS THE TRUTH AND IT IS WHAT I WANT. WHEN I DO WHAT JEHOVAH SAYS IN MY DAILY LIFE AND GO TO MEETINGS I FEEL GOOD . NOT BECAUSE I CARE IF THE ELDERS SEE ME DOING WHAT I SHOULD, BUT BECAUSE I FEEL JEHOVAH'S APPROVAL. AND THAT IS SUCH A GOOD FEELING.

When I left the org, my brother told me that he "disowned" me as his sister. "Whatever we ever were to each other is dead."
Less than ten years later he and I were attending a very special apostafest together. There is hope.
