Why I became agnostic after leaving the Watchtower

one of many things that led me to agnosticism after leaving the jw's was the cognitive dissonance i encountered with those in the mainstream churches, especially the really conservative ones.

these types would scream out in protest (rightly so) on all of the current atrocities going on in the world regarding islam and its radical extremists, but then justify the savage murders and slaughter perpetuated by israel in the old testament.. often i would take these passages and replace the names and places of these scriptures with current ones.

for example 1 samuel 15:3 reads "now go, attack the amalekites and totally destroy all that belongs to them.

You and I are in full agreement about the OT and religious atrocities, I even scolded my witness family last night for lusting after this blood bath they call Armageddon and said that the line between ISIS and them is very very thin, the old testament is full of righteous genocide, read many of the accounts the Israelites were the ISIS of the bronze age. Read the account when moses came down and they were worshipping the calf, its despicable. The leviites went and hacked up thousands of their brothers, sister, children, friends, then given "A blessing" from god. Sick

then it went back and forth like some debate, all the while i am holding back unloading serious ttatt on my family.

You didn't mention all the children who died in the flood? And why stop with the "Old Testament"? What about those in Jerusalem... who ate their children? Why didn't God save the children?

In all the examples you gave, what kind of people did this happen to? Those in opposition to Jehovah. They had done things so detestable that Jehovah was going to bring them to an account. Them and their offspring.

Is there something you have seen in the scriptures to indicate that Jehovah has at anytime bypassed inherited death and granted anyone, children included, a RIGHT to life?

People who feel sorry because they are CHILDREN, have a distorted view that because they are children they have some RIGHT to life, that a child's life should somehow be more worthy in Jehovah's eyes than that of an adult?

Jehovah is gracious, merciful, slow to anger... But he does not let off from punishment, swayed by sentiment. To him, the giver of life, a life is a life, be it one day old or 100 years old, it makes no difference. Not a one of us can claim a RIGHT to live... it is a gift.

If parents were warned of a tidal wave, and they didn't get their children to higher ground and they died, who then, would YOU blame for their death?

Why didn't Jehovah make a provision on the Ark for an orphanage to save all the children, along with the animals? There is no provision to my knowledge for orphanages in the new world for all the children who's wicked parents didn't do what they should have to save them.

I love people and their children just as Jehovah does. That is why I will spend my few little dollars, my precious little time, my poor health, and advancing age to warn and help educate everyone I can, while Jehovah is patient with them because he does not WANT anyone to die.

Yea the thing was like any other time u was just letting her say her crazy end of days stuff. I even called my brother earlier to vent and he said had yelled at her and told her to stop that no one was appreciating it and it was causing damage. her response to the infanticide email I sent Would give you all children Chills. This is a heartless organization. She said fist it never came up in God's heart to make kids pass through the fire. So I sent like a dozen scriptures of God murdering children. Her response back started well if you are going to use all those don't leave out the flood too. Sick.

Any way I got so pissed, before I said to much, I started texting my brother, who was mad at her too and agreed with my stance. (he is a weak witness now, was an elder before, but die hard for the truth still). So I unloaded on him, about the bible being fairy tales, and and the WTBS being a MLM, publishing cult/company making money in the realestate biz. Oh he was not pleased about that we debated until he went to sleep. But I am so mad I just feel like telling them all I want nothing to do with their damn cult and to piss off. So much for fade right? Someone talk me off the DA ledge.

Well lets use the bible, lets consider the ludicris stories of a global flood and the tower of Babel were true, how much time is there between the two? about 100 years? I can't remember exactly, but the idea that shortly after the flood the earth had enough population of inbreeds to support and build a city?

The truth is many cultures all over the world have their own explanations on how language came about. The bible bible version is just another myth to explain something from a small limited point of view.

The human genome and the movement of people around the world should disprove not only the flood but the babel story without these silly debates over little details. Think about all the other civilizations thriving and growing during this supposed time of mass global genocide, Egypt, China, India... they never got the memo I guess.

"Unlikely" really gives it too much credibility, research history etc and this story is as much bull$hit as the three little pigs. those types of stories aren't unlikely they are completely unbelievable

My best friend - Helping him wake up?

so, first off, after my learning ttatt i've been feeling so much better!

my depression is gone, i'm so much more motivated, i can do everything i've always wanted to do but was forbidden from doing.

now, my best friend is still in, however, i feel that he may have a chance at waking up.

I would proceed carefully and slowly, forget the that TTATT part, are you DF'd or just faded? I would start this way , apologize implicitly for ignoring him. Without making it about "The Truth" make it about being a good person. Doing the right thing, nothing about JW's. Repair the friendship.

Once you get there you guys can start easing into some discussions, I've been there and was successful. Just be a friend. And be a good person, he will see you stand out from the JW @$$Holes

Genesis is full of genocide, and bible thumpers are so disconnected from it, watch some videos of these @$$Holes hacking up their own people, and the same thing happened in genesis. And anyone that says "well they were bad" why? because they didn't give god the right worship? Or maybe they acted presumptuously? Maybe they worked on the sabbath. Put all those people murdered by god and the Israelites in the orange jumpsuit in your mind, its the same crap, people who believe the bible are just disconnected from how barbaric the bible really is

hahhaha excellent, I want to be like you when I grow up lol. You have got some of the best stories.

You know its funny, years ago in a hall I was in, I was reaching out, I worked full time, I was married, I did not get the national average in hours. it was 10, I probably averaged 6... these brothers wouldn't even use you unless you got the national average. Much less recommend for MS. My brother who was an elder used to get into with them. He would say someone could come into the congregation, never go out in service, and turn in 10 false hours and you would use them! basically telling them their obsession with the hours was unfounded. Now with my own turning in fake time later in my life, and cappytan answering while reading koontz, it just shows how hollow and empty their spiritual paradise is, most the people I know that got to MS and elder status would give talks off the cuff, no thought or care put into it at all, they would get less hours than me (once they were appointed), All the R&F that are zealous are sitting there eating this watered down crap up, cappytans comment, a talk from an elder with a hangover that he is winging, and so on. So empty.
