  The beginning of the end for shunning?

  the borg seem to prepare for changes by missing explanations out for a while then presenting a "new understanding" which doesn't contradict the most recent discussion.check out the most recent references to gog - no identification as satan.. in today's wt study, paragraph 15 concerning benefitting from the prodigal son stated "if we meet a person who has strayed from the congregation, will we offer loving and practical help to assist him to return?

  " there is no footnote or other qualifier saying not to go to disfellowshipped ones (who are definitely the ones being talked about) which is still the official policy.

  i know this isn't an ending to shunning, but it may signal the start of the preparation for a change.

  DFing will not go, too important to the cult model, however, my jaw was on the floor during this study, all the comments from the elders etc portrayed it in a way that to an outsider would make it appear that no matter what when you step foot back into the hall everyone is welcoming you back. Its all perception. Clearly they are talking about left, but not DF'd, and when DFing was implied they would say, referring to the prodigal son... "he had to have a very difficult embarrassing journey back home" in that "Journey" would be all the BS one would have to go through to get reinstated before being shown real welcoming arms or love. Or that When they come back god is happy and welcomes them... just takes the elders a while to see if they really mean it...

  wow, i am kind of surprised the amount of attention this appalling video is getting from the media.

  What comforts you when you no longer believe in a ressurrection ?

  our family just lost someone dear and very close, a faithful jw.

  as we went through the entire funeral services and meeting long time brothers and sisters, who in general have been very kind and warm towards us, we realize that the hope of resurrection is a meaningless utopia for us, like a fairytale for little children.

  we don't have faith in it anymore, and serves us of no comfort.

  You are correct, sometimes it is fun to entertain ideas, the thing religion doesn't allow you to do is the following..."It is the mark of an educated mind to be able to entertain a thought without accepting it." – AristotleOnce you break the shackles of religion you find you can let your mind entertain many different ideas from probable to radical etc, but are not bound to it being "Belief" or "The Truth!!".   there are a couple of things that helped me, although I never really felt comfort from the idea, i guess 1 part doubt and 1 part I didn't believe I'd be good enough to make it through the big A.

  You need to fully accept the idea its not going to happen, that this is all there is, we are conditioned to feel this is a morbid idea, but it really isn't. Once you break through and believe that, you get a feeling of peace with the idea. And you start living. You realize life is amazing, and your time is precious, the ones around you are special and you take everything for much more of what it is. It gives you so much more to "live" for.

  Also you need to drop the idea of looking for comfort from an idea/answer... religion has conditioned us that there is 100% answer to everything and there just isn't. You need to get a zen like mentality that you are not in control, and you can't know all the answers so stop worrying and start living. Come to terms with this is it, and no one knows what happens when you die. Maybe you just cease to exist except in memories and legacy, or maybe you wake up from a dream in another reality, or maybe on a paradise earth, no one knows and we can't and wont know so just wait until you get there. It's hard to explain the enlightenment and peace you feel when you live this way, most witnesses will think it is trivial shallow existence because thats what we were taught, when its the contrary. You don't know what life is until you see its value this way.

  the watchtower and others teach that joseph refused to commit adultery.

  specifically to the jws, we teach that joseph, somehow, knew that adultery was wrong, despite not having any specific rule or writing to teach him so.

  sadly the travesty the is happening to children of other religions in other parts of the world makes these stories fly under the radar. And hollywood making movies about these "stories" I don't think it impresses people as much as us who were raised in this and can see the ins and outs of it. We know how traumatizing this was, others may not feel the gravity of it.

  Really??? they said that to you? F%$#k them. I'd say grab a rock then pansy, do gods will big man lol. Then I'd b%$#ch slap the person who said that. 

  These people with these ideas are everything that is wrong with world. judgmental detachment. They love the idea of an @$$hole god smiting everyone, but would never get their hands dirty. Other people in the world are just the same but they do get there hands dirty. Is one better than the other, I don't think so. The idea is still bad. 

  So they feel so justified discriminating against women, apostates, homosexuals, and just being huge assholes in general. A real man/woman that is a good person would never entertain such barbaric ideas about their fellow man for having a different opinion or way of life. 

  I am peaceful person, I love people and animals, but if an elder in this org said to me what they told you ... I would most likely kick his ass.
