Maybe this is why my JW friend doesn't see fit to stay away from me. She hangs out with several JWs who back-bite, lie, have been known to have affairs, and never miss a Marguerita Monday.

I am not a JW, yet I don't participate in many of these things, as a personal rule. I do occasionally go out with her for a few drinks, and she gets hammered, while I stay sober and do the driving.

I guess you could say most of her JW friends portray the Satanic, sex-crazed drunks. Us regular 'ol heathens seem to be living the cleaner life. Go figure!

Question for diabetics---Need a recipe:

my husband's friend at work is a diabetic and is leaving to go to a new job.

my husband promised i would make him a couple of fresh blackberry pies from our own fresh picked blackberries, but they have to be made without sugar!.

my typical way of pie baking is the lazy woman's way.

I used Bondie's recipe and the pies turned out wonderful!

I use Stevia myself. I go along with the idea that artificial sweeteners cannot be good for you. The Stevia helps my digestive system. I only use it in tea and other drinks. Never tried it in any recipes.

Let me know how that works!

Putting together info on proof of 607 vs. 586......

the wts has erroneously set the fall of jerusalem in the year 607. i'm trying to put together information, for our son, proving that this date is false.

i've decided when our son brings up the subject of his involvement in the wts, i will then show him this information.

i feel this particular subject is the wisest to go with.

One more thing:

Don't let them swamp you with piles of literature on the subject. ALL you need right now is proof from a couple of reliable sources OUTSIDE of the WTS that 607 is indeed the date of the fall of Jerusalem.

NOTHING ELSE MATTERS. IF you clear this up first, then I may be interested in looking at the rest of the BS, er... I mean literature ...,on the subject. Right now all I want to see if PROOF that Jerusalem fell in 607.

This is a matter of historical fact. It doesn't matter what religion, what race, or what part of the world you live in. It happened when it happened. Period. And it happened in 586-587. NOT 607.

JWs are programmed to teach. Not to be taught.

What you should do, is ask him to prove to you that the fall of Jerusalem occurred in 607, WITHOUT using WTS literature.

This is how I approached the subject.

The fall of Jerusalem happened. Every one agrees on that.

Ask your son: WWII happened when it happened, right? You could live anywhere and it still happened when it happened. You could be a Baptist, Catholic, JW, Athiest, and WWII still occurred on the date it occurred, right? It is a matter of fact, not speculation, right?

Could you please find some solid references from historical scholars outside of the WTS that support the fall of Jerusalem occurring in 607? (PLease do not give me literature from the WTS, because that is like saying, "It happened because we say so.") This is a matter of historical fact, so it should be proveable. HOw did the WTS arrive at this date?

Then do the backward count of the 5 kings who ruled and show him how you are arriving at 587.

PM me, if you need that info. I have it. It made BIG waves with my JW friend.

What has Worked for You When Trying to Reason with Witness Relatives?

Your question is the very reason I came to this forum. I wanted to find out how to effectively speak to my JW friend, without being viewed as an opposer or an apostate.

Taking the position of a student has helped. NEVER saying anything negative about the WTS has been helpful too. I mention things "other" religious orgs. do that are extremely similar, which lets my friend make the connection.

If you have never read Don Cameron's book Captives of a Concept, you should! I was able to ask about WTS history, which opened up LOTS of good questions! Especially when SHE sent me the 5th Chapter of the Proclaimer's book!

If you could play like you are Columbo, and ask the right questions in a very non-combative way, you could open your daughter's minds very effectively. Even if they don't show it at first. There's no way to unring that bell, once it has been rung.

(Thanks to AK-Jeff for that one!) It also helps to have people here that are supportive and know that "how you say it", is as important as "what is said".

What is the JW's take on pets?

i have always loved animals and have had pets through out the years, so that got me thinking about my jw childhood, not to many dubs had pets, i remember only a small handful of dubs that had a dog.

i wondered if there is a jw realted reason for this, so far the only thing that i can think of is that a pet "would take up valuable time that could be better spent on field service" .

any one have some information on this?.

Once when the JW couple who was coming to "study" with us started in on beliefs and customs that are displeasing to God, Mrs. JW was going on and on about how we should never have anything to do with things that could in anyway be related to paganism. It was around Easter, so she was using the rabbits and eggs scenario. (And let's not forget that ever manacing "Christmas tree"!)

I asked her if JWs have pets.

Do they own cats?

Hmmm.... I seem to recall there are pagan religions that view cats as gods. If you are to stay away from everything associated with paganism, why do JWs keep cats for pets?

They are God's creatures! He made them.

Did God not also make eggs? Rabbits? Trees?

I never really got a good explanation, but I could see the wheels starting to turn a little in her eyes. She actually broke down in tears when our beagle died, but remained as dry-eyed as a desert when I told her about my Aunt passing away.

That's "WTS love" for you, I suppose!

Hello, we are Jehovah's Witlesses and we are here to take control of every aspect of your life. You will have to stop doing everything that is part of normal human life and spend all your time and money screeching around doing this door to door work with us. And, if you break one of our millions of rules, you will be cut off from any family members that you are supposed to be bringing into this cult.

Could someone print this up on postcards and send them out to people that you know are studying with the JWs? This is the closest thing to a truthful "statement of faith" I have ever come across!

My typical way of pie baking is the lazy woman's way. Take two store bought pie crusts, layer berries and sugar/flour mixture, top with another store bought crust, and pop in the oven.

Do I do the same thing, but use Splenda rather than sugar? How much do I use? Haven't found a recipe online for simple blackberry pie, so I thought maybe someone here could advise me.

Thanks for your help. I've been here so long, I love to come to you guys first when I have questions about almost anything, even recipes. :0)

I'm going to give it a go this weekend and try to find the one that is the closest. My whole family just loves that stuff!
