i'm not sure if this was posted before, but i found the following quote from the wts media website.

i thought the whole article was really ironic.. .

jehovah's witnesses firmly believe that god will accomplish his purposes for the future at his own predetermined time, on a day and hour that he has not revealed to humans.

"HIS purposes" Do we know what it is?
Genesis: 1:28-30, in part "Fill the earth and subdue it,
have dominion over all creatures and eating of all
vegatation." Have not we accomplished HIS stated
purpose. Do we presume to know what Gods thoughts
are, half of the time we as humans can not even figure
out what we are selves are thinking. It's just a thought,

Things to do when they come knocking

i encourage people not to either verbally or physically harass jws when they come knocking on the door.. saying this, i recognize that it is ever so tempting to try the following:.

1) answering the door wearing a t-shirt with a logo such as "satan rules", "member of the evil slave class", and "1914, 1918, 1925, 1975, what's next?".

2) answering the door wearing only underwear (or less).. 3) dropping a name of some governing body member and suggesting that you got to know him when he and you were in jail together, and then ask if they know if he's stopped some particular filthy habit.. 4) answering the door while brandishing a pitchfork.. 5) say that you're so glad they came and that it's good for people to have an open mind about their religion and to be willing to change; once you get them excited with this, show them a copy of the wtbts failed prophecy list (backed by quotes from their own literature) and ask if they are open minded as well.. 6) as most jws have never looked at a copy of _studies in the scriptures_, tell them that you've gotten many of your religious beliefs by pyramidology; then show them a copy of _sits_ and point to the wtbts copyright notice.. i have #5 and #6 ready for the next visit.

Atheists/Agnostics/Prayer

on the subject of prayer: this is addressed to the more atheistic or agnostic ones amongst us.. now, all those years i prayed really hard when times were tough, and then things worked out.

i now believe it was my own hard work that gave the solutions.

prayer was helpful in that i felt i had help.

Patio-as you say this question is not directed at me because
I believe in Jesus. But I've been following you around the
board tonight[seems like we are the only two up] so I will
add my two cents. I do not think its liberating because we
all feel at some point in our life we need help. Look at
Simons wonderful broad is it not help for some or all?
Has it not answered many prayers? I think it to be more
liberating that HE is there and willing to help you. If you
choose to ask HIM. HE does not twist your arm to ask HIM
it is your FREE choice to do so or not. That I find liberating

maybe this irked you in the past?

i had a hard time convincing--nay, believing--that we lived in such baaaad times.

jws have the belief that times are bad, so we had the task of convincing the householders of that.

If you had food to give and it was the last day wouldn't
you give? Is not that the Truth? Is not that what Christ
preached?
I read a short story a while back I'll try my best to relate it.
It was about a small european town set in the late 1800's.
They KNEW when the last day of the world would be.
The whole town was sold on it . As the date got closer
and closer things began to change. Into the last year they
turned and everybody started to say hello to each other,
hold doors open, no you go first, they shared things with
the less fortune it towns people. Hey they would not be in
need of everthing they had. The end was coming and they
decided to share all with all of what need would it be to
them the end was coming. Closer and closer the DAY
came people were singing and dancing enjoing each
day as it came and as it went. People started learning
things that they always put off before even knowing
they would not have enough time to learn the skill
completly. Yes life was good it was all loving all giving
all sharing-they were in Gods image trully.
The day came they all gathered at the top of the hill
made a circle held the hand of the one next to them
and very peace fully looked heavenly.
Morning turned to afternoon then to dusk and then night
came. They all waited with great confidence and proudly
too for all the immense love that was shown and given to
and by all. The sun came up the next day. Thats where
the story ends. I ask two questions here.
How did the towns people live out the rest of there lives?
Maybe to answer that, this question is better.
What in reality-reality-reality-actually changed?

Seven-yes one of Jacksons finest moments. It seems some
people here dislike my belief that many if not all people at
some time in there life are inspired. As I read over those
lyrics a few times you can surely go in many directions
thanks for posting. But on a cold and rainy night in Phoenix
[very unusal-and a nice change I might add] I prefer listening
to Van Morrison. So tell me if you wish are you a,

Fred, what other 11-scriptures do you know? This apostate
reads the whole bible. Please turn to-Colossians-2:23
and it says? In part- Gospel-you heard,which was preached
to every creature under heaven. Past tense-already done.
As for this apostate I do tell people that Jesus rose from
the dead. Thats the good news ALL the apostles preached
funny thing though everyone knows. Must have something to
do with such pagan holidays such as christmas and easter.
What did Jesus say to John about others expelling demons?
If this is not one of the other 11 scriptures you know. Well
you should open that good book of yours and find it, then
you'll know 13.

two observations since leaving the jws:.

1. are the elders really 'teachers'?

in the public talk they have to follow the outline provided by the wt.

Patio and Larc; I to believe the things you say about elders.
Also all JW's once baptized are ministers.
Elders do not take any new vows when they become elders.
Mustang maybe if you read this you can lend an answer.
Being what has been said is true. How is it possible the
Missouri state supreme court sided with the tower to
protect the elders on confidentuality. No vows taken
like a priest-lawyer-doctor. All witnesses are ministers.
Is everything said between two or three sisters confidental
too. Ruling of course is over the on going rape case jn Missouri.
Remember catholics MUST confess to go to heaven thus
protection should be applied if the court is ruling on freedom
of religion. But witness's have no such belief. What gives?

Emyrose-I also believe we should do any and everything
we can to help dismantel this evil oganization. But you
personally must trully forgive them so you can stop
living in the past and pain-there is an other thread about
forgiveness going go to it and read it. There is stuff on
this site from Carolyn Myss dealing with pain and wounds.
Ask StephenW he'l be glad to show you stuff from her. You
need to let new thoughts in and let go of the old destructive
ones. Stephen post a lot of her stuff C.M. just so you know
there is a lot of it roaming around here.
