I haven't seen this publicly endorsed yet, but If those were the two choices, it's the one I'd choose. Of course, sometimes I'm kind of a jerk.
this news story came out today and i was surprised that we haven't had a lively discussion about it.

While I can appreciate that these modifications could greatly benefit both the severly mentally retarded, and also their caregivers...I see this as a very dangerous precident. I worked with the mentally retarded for 7 plus years, and I can think of many different things that would have benefitted us and could have been easily justified. There was one individual who would be fed through a tube for the rest of her life, including liquids. Could take nothing orally. She also had no ability to use her limbs. Her dental care was extremely difficult. Dental visits required sedation. She had about ten teeth including some molars and broken ones. Should we have had them removed? Decaying teeth in you mouth is of no benefit to you, and it leads to all the problem of maintaining what is left, and really served no useful purpose anyway. It would also make it so much easier to care for her. Remove them?
What you don't know, is that she liked to look at her smile(as scary and horrible as it was to me) in the mirror. What if someone with just a little less mentality was the same way, but nobody noticed it because they had a little less ability to show it?...
I'm surprised how many seem to be leaning in the direction they are, and it isn't just this forum. I wouldn't want to personally make that decision, but right now I'd have to say that I'm opposed to it.

I believe (no personal experience in this matter) that they would generally contact you first, ask to meet with them. They would do this with a witness there, also, be it over the phone, or in person at your door. If you chose not to meet with them, on occasion they have disfellowshipped people(or just announced that you aren't a JW anymore, to make it seem like you disassociated). This is my layman's answer to you. More studied individuals can give you a better answer. Welcome to the forum.
Edited to add that I was reinstated years ago (5 maybe?), and never returned. I have never been contacted and am not dfd. I attended my mothers funeral at the KH a year or two later, and was greeted normally. Currently the trend is to leave inactive ones alone, unless someone has a bone to grind with you, or if you are flaunting a "worldly lifestyle". Some have hinted at a possible change in this policy, but I personally don't think that is happening yet.
well since maybe you are no longer a jw any more..............you have that option!.

Until we live in a eutopia, there will be aggressors, and there will be the weak. There will be those seeking power/control, motivated by greed, sometimes just motivated by survival instincts. All men are NOT created equal. There will always be those who are motivated to improve their life, some by any means necessary. Those who do not have will want, and some will try to get what they want- by ANY MEANS NECESSARY! Those who have, will try to keep. They will try to keep by whatever means are necessary. Is dying for your country (read home, if you will) a good idea? No, of course not. Is protecting your way of life a good idea? Yes. I don't want to be forced to bow to any gods (political, national, religious, ideological, etc.)and I will fight those who will try to force me, even if I have to fight my own country (read: Nation). The issue is not black and white by any means. I will protect my home, hopefully not having to die while trying to do so and at the same time hoping that I'll have the stones to sacrifice my life if it means that I will be prolonging the life of those I love, and those who are incapable of doing so on their own. Would I kill someone (if possible) trying to just steal my car? No. Would I kill someone trying to steal my car while my child was still in it? Yes. Would I kill someone who was threatening my own life? Yes, if possible. If I had the time to convince them not to kill me without me killing them would I take that route? If it was feasible.
While I am sure that there are indeed some true pacifists in the world, I don't tend to believe that most who claim to be pacifist are really so. Many people claiming to be pacifist are pacifist at the expense of others and I am as disgusted with them as I am the "warriors". The question in the subject line is a bullshit question. The question is loaded. Many animals travel in packs. Most of these animals have a hierarchy. They are equivalent to human tribes. They all have there own jobs. The weak are eventually weeded out. They either learn to survive, or they are abandoned by the herd, eventually.

Shouldn't he at least thank his wife for the physical nourishment? After all, 32,000 meals. Yeah, I ain't buying the story. If anything, it probably was wasn't about the kingdom hall or JWs at all. I'd need to see the actual article, not a story about a supposed article. I call SHENANIGANS!!!
i agree that everyone should have the right to practice thier own religion, as long as it doesn't interfere with another person right to privacy and right to not be harassed in their own home by those who feel they have the better religion.. the door to door work of jws is harassment, when you consider that they call for the most part in the morning, univited to talk about why there religion is the right one and often have very bad things to say about other belief systems, which has the potential of disturbing the peace.

No, I don't see a reason to make it illegal. I think it is stupid, but I think the same thing about those a**holes in the kiosks at the mall who always want "30 seconds of my time" to sell me the "chopper" or a nail buffer, or some other junk. Yeah, it is different than someone coming to my house and selling me shite, but how is it different than girl scouts selling cookies? I'm not interested in their cookies any more than I am interested in Jehovah and his ego problems. Someone selling God, knocking on my door once or less every six months, doesn't seem like much of an issue. I suppose you could get some sort of registering process going down, but I don't like the idea of the government being involved in even MORE stuff, if not really necessary. JWs are dangerous if you buy their stuff, but in this day and age, anyone who buys anything without investigating/researching it first is an idiot. If you really don't want them coming back, tell them, call the Kingdom hall and request to be on the do not call list if necessary. Governments banning their door to door "work" will make them more fervent, more exited, more paranoid, more dangerous. Anything limiting freedom of speech (by government, not by private citizens on private property) is far more dangerous than JWs knocking on your door.

however there isnt really any introduction information, like a clear home page and if you are actually alighned with a particular group/organisation!
anyway, i hope to read lots more interesting stories and hopefully i will find something im after.. cheers.
A JW marrying outside of their faith in absolutely frowned upon. For her to do so would be bad for her from a religious standpoint, and if she is trying to repent and be a good JW, there is no way this will work for her. If she gets disfellowshipped, you will have a whole other can of worms to deal with if she tries to "get back in". I feel for you man. We aren't knocking the girl have met, but she is in a very difficult situation.
