My parents were married for 40 yesrs and when my mother died of cancer my father, who is an elder, was naturally upset. Yet when he was crying in our own home, the PO did say to him that he needs to show more "respect for Jehovah's resurection promise, and be stronger and more supportive of the congregation." Later in private my father would want to cry but would fight his emptions for fear that the "Brothers and Sisters might be stumbled if they say him cry."
I know that everyone does show grief in their own way, however sometimes the reactions of some folks are just not natural. (I know that is a subjective term). The PO mentioned above had a young child, a toddler, and the PO was at home one day and had the child in his care. They had a pool and the child fell in and drowned. The congregation was all sad as you can imagine and for months the mother was a mess. My son was a bit younger that theirs and she got a lot of comfort ant the meetings holding him. Anyway, the father did not seem to care because not two days after the boy drowned and a day befor ethe funeral he went to play and sing with some orter brothers in a local club. And at the funeral was seemed more concerned with why more folks did not go watch them play.
I am an entertainer and I still find this is taking "the show must go" on a bit too far. Especially since he was just jamming with the band as he was not "in the band".
Maybe it was his way of dealing with his loss, but the whole thing did not feel right.

If the speaker could adjust the mic themselves then they may feel like they are in control of the part, and the WT can't have that. Also as fern said other pastors are animated, the WT wants the focus to be on the poison being servrd up not on the speaker. Remember the speaker is just a "good for nothing slave" unless it is a GB member.

Why does the WTBT Society exist?
by Princess Daisy Boo inthey don't really have the truth so it can't be that?
unless "they" at the top truly believe it - do you think they do?.
is it for monetary gain?

Sweetstuff is right on the money- A large majority of people just abdocate their responsibilities in the hopes that they will not be held accountable for their own actions or inactions. They don't vote or they let someone else tell them who to vote for. Then it is not their fault if the choice was a bad one. They don't think for themselves about religious matters and just fall back on well me Pastor/Perachor/Elder said this or that so that is what I believe. Again thinking all the while that, if they are wrong it is not their fault.
Fools, all of them fools!

Could it be that they are trying to generate a quick cash influx and then say the tribulation is here and we are closing our doors. then they dissapear with the money while the r&f are trying to hide from the boogie man?

Did he say that points 1 & 2 were fulfilled in biblical times? I thought everything has a modern day fulfillment with the WT at the center of it all?

Brotherly love in action ?
by lancelink inkind of a strange experience here, maybe someone can make me see what's going on.
my parents live in another state, to visit them would require at least a 22 hour drive, no trains, .
planes are fine but since the airport is in the middle of nowhere tickets are getting quite costly ($$$$$$.

When my mother got cancer everyone in the congragation gave their usual "I'm sorry's".
A few were helpful thriugh the five + years but I stress a few. The entire time the book study was held in their house never once being offered to be at another home. Even when mom was bed ridden from chemo the book study went on and most nights they expected drinks and desserts afterword. A few were upset when we did not entertain afterwords and some were vocal about it. The whole time the other eldaers used my dad so much (and he let them) that my mom would sit at home and cry feeling that he put the "brothers" above her.
The two biggest kickers came when she finally died. First my dad wanted to give away a lot of my mothers clothes and things like that (I don't know why). So he called a few of moms friends and my sister (Non JW). But before all was said and done there were around 20 women in the house going through my mothers belonging trying to grab what they could. (My mom was into fassion and had impecable taste) So when the "loving sisters" started going through my mothers underwear my sister and I had it and sent them all out. And yes I heard about it later from the other elders for being rude! There is much more to that but you get the idea.
The second kicker was at mom's funeral when to PO and anothr elder were talking, not knowing me and my best friend was behind them. The PO said "Well I glad that's over now (My dad) can start serving Jehoavea like a real witness should" My dad was the secratary for 4 years was the head of one of the RBC was at every mtg, elders mtg., we were even having book studies in dads house before he or mom were babtized.
It was all my best friend could do to keep me from attacking the PO. To this day I have no respect for him, just utter contempt.
There are many good people in the WT but the only love the WT promotes is love of self. In turn the witlesses only have that example to go by so they to love themselves.

Opinion poll: Is it wrong for grandparents to buy presents for all but one?
by cognizant dissident inmy parents (jw's) have 4 small grandchildren between the ages of 5 and 8. they recently went on a trip and brought back presents for 3 of the kids but left out one because they "didn't have time to find anything".
my sister was very upset and refused to accept the present for her daughter if they had nothing for her son.
my parents thought she was making a big deal out of nothing and since gifts are voluntary, technically, they don't have to buy them for any of the kids and can do so as they choose.

Wow, I wonder if this is a real JW philosophy that I missed or what. My JW wife does the same thing but does not say she forgot she just says if I buy for one I donn't have to buy for the others. We have 4 boys, She had one when we met, have one together and we adopted two of her nephews. All good kids. If she or I see something we want to get for one of them I will sometimes say we could get something for one of the others. This really gets her irate. I mean she gets pissed and insists it would be wrong to get something else for someone else. To the point that at the simple suggestion of such she will often just refuse to buy anything for any of them.

martial arts

the look of horror on her face.
she told me it was violent and jws could not practice violence.

I practiced Aikido for years and was an instructor. Yes the JW outlook on MA is totally wacked as with their outlook on just about everything else. To say MA teaches violence is to speak from ignorance. As for the meditation, like everything else it is what you make it out to be. Any thinking apart from the WT is dangerour but only to the WT. Since I stopped practicing I have been more angry, and irritable, or maybe I'm just getting old.
