  new blood article in August Awake

  first,be patient if i make mistakes here-i am new to posting.

  i have been a lurker for about a year now.i finally decided to join the conversation,but must be careful due to family still in.

  the new article in the august awake has completely blown the witnesses stand on blood.

  Welcome to your first posting, seems you have been here in the background for a while.

  I am getting the feeling that the more the WT waffles around on what part of blood is ok, what part is not, it would seem that the issue gets more and more complicated. And this blood card stuff, and the hospital liason committee? I could imagine that the ordinary witness barely knows what the real rules are anymore.

  When I was in during the 1970s to 1980, none of this complication existed - it was just no blood transfusion and that was that. No liason, you or your family just told your doctor what you wanted to.

  Your post seems to me to be quite to the point. There just isn't any logic at all to accepting blood fractions, if you truly believe that the life-blood should be poured out onto the ground. The more they try to explain it, the more this doctrine is revealed to be phony.

  As you are in the health-care industry, I would imagine you have quite a few comments of other past watchtower medical quackery. I never knew how much of that there was until I started reading this site...

  i see the excitement and thrill when a jw gets nailed for pedophilia.

  i'm happy when any of these creeps get caught.

  but i just don't think that this is what will bring down the organization.

  My memory has just been jogged!!!

  Back in the seventies, the body of elders in my congregation was secretly informed that a certain circuit overseer was removed for fondling boys out in service. Seems the said CO was using the tactic of telling the young guys that they might unknowingly have a sex disease from using public restrooms, but that he was a "male nurse" and could check them out - that way they wouldn't have to be embarrassed to say anything to their parents.

  This was a higher level thing than just common rumor mill; the current CO (not the molestor one) told us during one of the elder meetings.

  I was not told the name, nor if this guy just got removed from the circuit work, or was actually DFd. There was not really any admonition to watch out for such stuff, it was just given as a sort of news item from another circuit.

  PUBLIC IMAGE - Just a little minor scandal - sort of like another witness family murder-suicide. Regrettable, but just a fluke.

  Unless - and this is a big unless - what if the Society knew about him, and had let him slide on a previous occasion? Unlikely, yes...but certainly possible. The only way it would ever come out, of course, is some honest JW elder whistleblower, or perhaps a concerned JW parent who could not find justice on this guy in the past? Or maybe they get outed on keeping that list, and Mr. Cano's name is on it...

  I was on a committee years ago who faced such a charge on one of our elders, and it was just routinely dismissed as unbelievable nonsense - no real investigation ever took place.

  Could such a thing have happened here?

  I hate to say that Minimus is probably correct. The WT is in full damage control mode and is going to make themselves look like the guardians of the universe with just one spoiled rotten apple who was instantly discovered and cast away. Nothing against Minimus, you understand - I just wish that this would have the effect of exposing the hypocrisy on this subject. But I doubt it, too.

  In reality, they have done a coverup of these cases for years. If anyone ever doubted "Theocratic Strategy", then look at the disjoint on their public statements over this case compared with their private actions for years.

  But, just think what could have happened if if was Greenlees or Chitty who got caught...

  who has not heard of the so-called doctrine now that you are an apostate?

  so why have witnesses never heard of 'doctrine', yet apostates seem to promote it as the last word on witness standards of honesty, integrity and decency?

  i have searched the watchtower library with no results.

  but since cano was a bethel elder serving in walkill, even being sent abroad as a watchtower representative there could be a chance that there is a picture of him in the literature or that he was a model for some bible character.

  would be hard to find but maybe someone has inside information?

  it is amazing what can be done when there is a support system in place.

  even when that system is almost totally verbal alone.. last night i told my dh that i was not content to just be an apostate but i want to do anything and everything i can to expose them and i have chosen to do this using my real name.

  i followed that up by saying that there might even be some threats against me.

  If the community of Jehovah's Witnesses really wanted to provide "good cooperation" - maybe they should open their files which are rumored to hold the names of 20,000 individuals who are considered to have committed child molestation.

  After all, they are not Catholic Priests keeping someones confession safe, are they?

  Then the Walkill Police Department could really say "Thank you for your cooperation".

  I think maybe PapaJohn is a little "off target" with all the anti-gun diatribe.

  What poster asked was "how do Jehovah's Witnesses view guns?".

  Not - notice this - how do EX-JWs or JWD posters feel about guns.

  I will submit that the original issue in the thread is quite an interesting one. In fact, given the JW stand on government, war, law enforcement, and general individual rights - one could reasonably expect that they would have strictly forbidden gun ownership, target shooting, hunting & fishing, etc. in alignment with their "not part of this evil world" mentality. And yet they have not!

  They discourage guns (a little), but with nothing at all like the vehement tone of PapaJohn!

  Can anyone speculate on why that is the case? Certainly it is not because they are too shy to tell their members what to do! - These are the people who boldly tell parents to let children die rather than take a whole blood transfusion, after all. These are the people who made most of the young men of my generation here in the US subject to committing the felony of draft evasion during the VietNam era.

  And yet they do not disfellowship for having a gun and refusing to get rid of it!

  James, of the "Do you hate guns? Fine - you don't have to have one if you don't want to, my friend." class.

  and also of the "Do you want to take away my guns? Do you feel lucky?" class...

  asleif - I have a funny Luger story...

  I had always wanted a real German Luger. My chance came when the oil boom failed in Oklahoma City in the 80s. An overextended oily that I knew had one of those reproduction Mauser Luger presentation pistols in the walnut box with all the tools, etc. and sold it to me under duress.

  He made a big point that he had never fired it. Red flag in front of a bull, right?

  So, down at the indoor range I confidently load up a clip, take careful aim, and squeeze off the first round. An audience of about 10 guys has collected back behind the observation window.

  A Luger throws the spent casing straight up in the air, not to the side. So, it goes straight up in the air and blows out the overhead flourescent lighting tube over my head. The shards come down all about my head and shoulders.

  My audience politely applauds my effort, making manful attempts not to completely lose it with hysterics...

  Incidentally, that gun was a real nail driver - about as accurate as my 22 target pistols, and it NEVER JAMMED as long as I had it. (I did keep it clean, of course)
